- USC-bound senior wing DeMar DeRozan (featured in Dime #39, still on newsstands) won the dunk contest at the McDonald’s High School All-American Game. DeMar’s contest-winning dunk, which the Compton (Calif.) High star coined, “Tap the Baby,” might have been better than Dwight Howard’s backboard-assisted cram in this year’s NBA dunk contest.
- UNC-bound shooter Larry Drew II shot past expectations as he edged Galena’s (Reno, Nev.) Luke Babbitt to take the 3-point title. The City Section player of the year at Taft (Woodland Hills, Calif.) is one of the West’s five backcourt studs, including DeRozan, Brandon Jennings, Willie Warren, and…
- UCLA-bound senior guard Jrue Holiday (Campbell Hall H.S., Calif.) copped the Gatorade National Player of the Year trophy. Holiday averaged 25 points, eight boards, six assists and four steals per game while leading his team to its third California state championship in his four-year career.

I watched the clip on youtube. The “tap the baby” was impressive, but if you think it was better the DHoward, you’re on something. It was basically the same thing with less authority.
