The old Nike dribbling one. No question about it.

Myrie says:
NIKE commcerical. Hands down. Ballers dribbling to beats.
I think Lamar Odom and Jason Williams where in that one.
The only other thing that comes close is the Gatorade “Be Like Mike” ad campaign. Does that get counted as a basketball commercial?
If not, gotta go with that Nike ad.

Reebok pump commercials in the early ’90s.
Converse react juice commericals with Grandma’ma Larry Johnson.
Some of yall bucks too young to remember them promos; that includes yall chumps at dime too.

Data says:
Good ad. But not even close to the best of all time. I have a hard time saying anything is better than the lil penny ads from back in the day`. Also the gatorade ad with the old mike and young mike going 1-on-1 was a classic `you reach, i teach.`

Celts Fan says:
I think it has to be the basketball/sneaker combo.
Otherwise, I’m putting the new this year Nike Steven Jackson/Shawne Merriman commercial with them just destroying other teams in slow-mo at #2 w/ the MJ/Bird McD’s HORSE commercial a close 3rd. I also love the recent Jordan commercial with all the little kids doing MJ’s signature moves. The Gatorade “game of inches” commercials where MJ misses the J over Ehlo and Dwight Clark misses the catch are phenomenal too.
I agree though Myrie, the Nike dribbling to beats one was the one I was talking about too and I don’t think it’s even close. That was the first commercial I ever saw and wanted to watch again and again. Revolutionary at the time and still amazing…

Spike n Mike in the Mars joints…
“do ya know do ya know do ya know?…its gotta be the shoes”
classic for yall bitches

Celts Fan says:
great call Data, forgot the Old Mike, Young Mike ad. that’s another classic.
March 6th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
Myrie says:
I have asked around my office and the consensus here is that the Gatorade ad does NOT count as a basketball/sneaker commercial.
But nonetheless…it was such a moving ad to me that I offer a farewell salute:
Ahem…
Sometimes I dream
That he is me
You’ve got to see that’s how I dream to be
I dream I move, I dream I groove
Like Mike
If I could Be Like Mike
Like Mike
Oh, if I could Be Like Mike
Be Like Mike, Be Like Mike
Again I try
Just need to fly
For just one day if I could
Be that way
I dream I move
I dream I groove
Like Mike
If I could Be Like Mike
I wanna be, I wanna be
Like Mike
Oh, if I could Be Like Mike

GEE... Oh LORD I done found my swaaag says:
Nike dribbles to the beat. So good I wish they would bring it back.
This new “eyes” commercial is spooky. One I don’t like close ups of people’s parts unless it’s on a lady. Even with a lady her eyes are just something i am not dying to see.
No I haven’t miss the point of the commercial, it’s just I don’t want to have to stare in someone’s face looking at tv.
They didn’t even do an eye with a goopy in it lol.

Right after Ray Allen, that chick looks exactly like Michael Jackson. Creepy as hell.
I’ve got to go with the Nike dribbling ad.

bsteezy3 says:
Hmmm…good question. The Nike Dribblin’ ad was a classic…hell, I still hear the dribblin’ beat in my head. I like the Jordan commercial where the kids are imitating his moves, then you see him watching at the playground at the end. What about those commercials for Allen Iverson (with JadaKiss) and Kevin Garnett (with Styles P)? Those were pretty cool too…
March 6th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
bsteezy3 says:
And ol’ skool Jordan vs. New School Jordan…loved that too… (Jordan ’85 vs. Jordan ’02)
March 6th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Dennis Castro says:
The Jordan XXI ad is my favorite. Everything about that commercial was dope, from the kids imitating MJ’s moves down pat to the music that accompanied the commercial.
Made me remember when I was a kid and where I was at watching MJ pull off those particular moves and then trying to imitate them on the court right after seeing them.

Austin Burton says:
Great call. The KG/Styles ad was one of my all-time favorites. I also liked the one where Steph was dribbling through the subway.
As far as I’m concerned, any commercial featuring a basketball player counts, so the MJ Gatorade ads and the D-Wade T-Mobile spots work.
I also gotta shout-out the Nike commercials where Vince Carter kept jumping over Gary Payton.

the best ones? gotta be the jordan xx1 and… the converse weapon commercial. you can’t beat that one, especially larry bird’s horrendous rapping. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90fRlMQTdSs

In no particular order:
- It’s gotta be the shoes
- Jordan/Bird McDonalds
- KG/Styles & AI/Jada
Those are the ones that stand out to me.

Sacto J says:
The look into my eyes commercial just about makes me sick, and thankful that the makers of TiVo decided to go into business. What a pile, “look into my eyes….” It doesn’t hold my interest to hear Kobe blabber on about his greatness, no matter how many high paid jerks you plug into the ad. Who cares? Now, if you’re talking about entertainment value, Lil Penny is definitely a step up. Not sure what the best might be, but I also like the Adidas brotherhood commercials that aired this year. It’s much better role model material, at least……
March 6th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
JA says:
‘The Be Like Mike’ one has to be the best because anyone who ever watched Jordan play always day-dreamed about what it would be like to be MJ for a day.
Although not specifically basketball, I was always partial to the Instant Karma Nike commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qG1uUiCrsPA

Teddy says:
Man i was lovin that gatorade commercial where MJ played himself. Of course the freestyle commercials..and recently the nike just do it commercial wit the guy in it that plays wheel chair ball.
March 6th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
Vignesh says:
No. Uno Ad : Nike Freestyle… J-will, VC , KG, BDiddy..awesome..
Then comes the Nike Battle…
Rbk’s AI feat jadakiss…plus the commercial for AI-6 (i think ) where he runs thru philly’s mean streets early morning dribblin the ball…
The LeBron’s were also a pretty cool ad..
VC nike shox with the purple suit was god damn disgusting
March 7th, 2008 at 12:16 am
K-Dizzle says:
I can’t believe no one put down those “Fun Police” commercials with KG(back in the Nike days) and GP with the lil white kid who never gave up the rock
“Damn! He so greedy, he don’t even let the floor touch the ball!”
LMAO
