The Nike Air Raid Retro
Check out the new Nike Air Raid. When the original Air Raid was produced by legendary Jordan designer Tinker Hatfield back in 1992, rumor had it that these kicks were created with the “X” straps to draw a natural connection to director/friend of the Jordan Brand Spike Lee’s “Malcom X” movie, released that same year.
In actuality though, the straps were actually the result of a new design technology aimed at providing more security for your foot on the basketball court.
In 1993, the Air Raid was discontinued and the Air Raid II was released, featuring more colorways and design patterns on the shoe, with one model even featuring a peace sign on the strap and the slogan “Play Together, Live Together.”
The shoe was reissued in 2003 in five special editions – two for the Nike Battleground one-on-one series and three that were
only released in Japan.
Now in 2008, you can have another chance at purchasing the Nike Air Raid. The Retro shoe retails for $94.99 and can be found now at Foot Lockers nationwide.
