In Smack this morning, we told you about the drama at the end of the Hawks/Raptors game last night. Long story short, Toronto fans feel like they were cheated out of a must-win W because of some shady timekeeping that negated a last-second perfectly executed oop to T.J. Ford.
ESPN’s NBA crew has some analysis HERE.
Then head to TrueHoop for some Toronto reaction.

5/10 times that clock would start before TJ got the ball and the remaining 5/10 times it would start after TJ got the ball.
The point being, the average human reaction time is more than one tenth of a second. How long after the clock expired was the ball still on TJ’s hand? I bet it was more than 0.1 seconds so the shot is still not good.
Toronto lost this game because their defense fell apart (again) in the 3rd quarter, not because of a shot-clock error. The thing is, with less than 10 games left in the year for these teams I doubt there will be a replay.

Derek Fisher can catch/turn/chuck in 0.4 seconds but TJ can’t lay the ball up in less than 0.5?
Someone needs to invent the almighty ball that starts the clock on its own when it senses its been touched/caught by a player.

What are you even talkin about?
The rulebook states the clock starts after the player gets control of the ball. Your argument that 5 outta 10 early or late doesn’t apply in this case. The clock started before anyone even touched the rock. If anything, the clock should always start late. Yeah, the raps d died in the 4th but an official startin the timer before a player has possession is weak. David Lee can catch and flip in .1 but TJ can’t drop it in .5 when the rules state that you can CATCH and shoot in .4
There’s no controversy here. Atlanta got lucky then J-Smoove? starts droppin 3’s in ot like he’s reggie miller.
Ballgame…

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I’m not mistaken, the timekeeper also has the ability to start the clock so it could’ve been whoever.
This is F’in BULL man! In F’in Atlanta of all places!

The latest news in the AJC is that Horford claims he tipped the inbounds pass. If this is the case, the Raptors’ bit*hing is for naught.
Regardless, in any evevt, there is human error in the game–and .01 of a second ain’t much human error. Live with it. (Although the Hawks should be ashamed for getting caught looking at TJ’s disallowed alley oop, Horford and the gang otherwise were so gunshy (due to Horford’s so-called blatant foul earlier this year) on touching TJ when he drove to the well, that TJ had almost a career night. Also, J. Smoove basically beasted Bosh down low, except when the refs were giving Chris weak-ass whistles and sending him to the line.)

Maybe someone should look into why the scorer’s table seems to keep screwing the raptors out of point. That’s two years in a row!
Someone should be fired over this. The outcome of the game should be up to the players.

P.S.: Horford was on the man throwing the ball in.
