ESPN.com posted a story from ESPN the Mag about all things Rasheed Wallace. It’s a solid read and gives some insight into the man his teammates call “Homeless Harry”:
Though he has more money than even wealthy people can grasp, Sheed has been seen walking down the street with holes in his sweats—hence the nickname Homeless Harry. And when teammates wear fancy clothes, he has been known to remove the apparel from their lockers, hang them on the dry-erase board, draw an arrow to them and write in mock disgust: “Are you serious?!” He lets his hair grow, getting it cut only when he’s back in Philly, by the same barber he has gone to for years. He rarely does commercials. “I could have had the soft drink contract,” Wallace says, “but it’s not me.” He refused to be photographed for this story, saying he’d rather share the spotlight with the team’s other stars, and during the 20 minutes he gave for an interview, he hardly made eye contact.

This was a good read. Yeah, it’s slanted in favor of him, but it did give me a better appreciation of a guy that I used to think was just a bad attitude who wouldn’t play where his team needed him most (calm and in the post).
I’m looking forward to the day when I see him coaching and can compare it to his playing days.

Rasheed’s the man. Glad to see someone can actually write something positive about a guy that does a TON of positive stuff, but has been on some teams that did horrible things (Jail Blazers, where his worst offense was a possession charge or 2) and has a bad temper, so gets demonized.

The man is crazy but I like his energy…I think his homeless look is a trend.
Stupid question…What exactly is that white spot on his head / hair?

@Sam I Am
The white spot on ‘Sheed’s head is a birth mark. I don’t understand why but for some reason the hair on a birthmark grows in white (I have a friend with the same thing)
I disagree that ‘Sheed should spend his time in the low post. He is too talented to play Center and is absolutely a power forward (like KG). Detroit’s problem is not that ‘Sheed won’t play PF - it’s that they don’t have a centre to play with ‘Sheed.

Great article. Sheed has one of favorite players since his UNC days. I would defend this dude 2 everyone who tried to come at Sheed but he is the truth. He never wanted to be the man, he wants to play ball. Off the court, he is real. He reaches out the hood and always gives back.

I know you don’t care for me and vice-versa @ Yallallready.
I will say that quote was one of my all time favorite Sheed moments and moments in a press conference period.
He kept the same face the whole time. Classic.

Big Aaron says:
One thing I remember from ‘Sheed is when Darko was traded to ORL. Billups and Wallace were being interviewed about it and Chauncey turned round and said how much he liked Darko’s game and how he wished he’d gotten the opportunity to become the Piston’s starting centre and aimed that at Sheed as some banter. Sheed turned round and came out with “And I wish Chris Paul was our point guard!”
Had me in stitches. I’ve always been a Sheed fan and I’m glad others are turning to this side with that article.
