  1. GEE...While you was in diapers wettin your sheets, I was at the Ponderosa rappin to the beat says:

Yep. He has had the chances and come up short. He made it fun though.

I migh be the only one vouching for him, but

    PAUL SILAS!

    Get him and it’s ….Chaaampppionshiip!

  2. PALakerFan says:

Don’t be surprised if he’s Toronto’s coach by this time next week.

  3. foscheezeeee says:

I really think he’s a good coach though, and I think it’s more so being done just for a change. I know Toronto is the obvious leader for him, but if Dallas is gonna let Avery go then the Mavs need to HOLLA!!!

  4. Dcbum says:

I like D’Antoni and I think he is a great offensive mind. I think he would be great in chicago with the players they have. However, wherever his next stop is next year he needs a great defensive assitant. To win in a tight fourht quarter game you need defensive stops and thats the bottom line.

  5. Prof. TX says:

He needs to be paired with defense-oriented assistants to cover up for his shortcomings. And if he gets hired by a less popular team or one with a worse record, he needs to tone down his behavior a little. Without the Suns’ reputation and popularity, the refs might be less forgiving about him walking out onto the court and screaming at them.

  6. Celts Fan says:

The problem is ownership’s refusal to spend money/use their draft picks that slammed their window shut, not D’Antoni’s coaching. Any team that needs a coach (Toronto would be a perfect fit, whether or not they’ll need a coach is another story, though we know Raps fans want one) would be really smart to throw a ton of $$$ at him.

  7. the_don_mega says:

cat needs to go to Dallas…
if he can be paired up with Avery…
    it’s gonna be sweet…

  8. djKianoosh says:

what if DAntoni replaces Karl in Denver? imagine the offensive barrage they would unleash on people…

he doesn’t deserve to go. he deserves another year to make the Shaq/Amare/Nash/Diaw experiment work. But he definitely needs to use the bench more.

  9. evan says:

@Celts : I cosign 100%. The number of quality draft picks that they’ve sold is astounding and adds to their biggest liability. Barbosa is not a PG and they have no real distributor besides Diaw.

Here is who they have given away : Rondo, Sergio Rodriguez, Nate Robinson, Luol Deng.

Nash can only do so much and Marion leaving meant that everyone had to play defense full time. I’m hoping they get a PG and PF for next year.

  10. JA says:

I think D’Antoni did well with the cards he was dealt.

Suns needed a backup PG - management traded away Rondo for cash

Suns needed interior toughness/defence - management traded away Ol’ Crazy Eyes by giving away two first round picks, for scraps and cap room.

If I were him, I would have got fed up with ownership’s crap long ago.

  11. steven says:

I don’t think he should go either–they do need a serious defensive assistant & a back-up pg, but I think the axe is coming down on him either way. What about him in Golden State? or the Nuggets? or lack of defense will just keep both of those teams first round exist as well.

Okay how about this… Eddy Curry running the fast break- LOL!

  12. jaceofspades says:

i think he did a fine job.. but hes always been there in the mix.. close.. but it seems like thats as far as he could go.. soooo if you can find a coach who can keep the offensive flow somewhat fast with a better defensive mindset.. let him go.

  13. The Big Country says:

It was doomed once Steve Kerr came in. Different basketball ideologies from two of the most important positions in the organizagion just doesn’t mix. I would love to see D’Antoni coach the Bulls next.

  14. jaceofspades says:

dantoni should go to new york.. they got a lot of offensive weapons.. and the fastbreak would bring the true fans of new york back. they love it.

he shouldnt go to toronto (llike rumors might say) if sam mitchell gets fired… sam mitchell is a good coach.. he just doesn’t have any good defensive players so hes forced to play like that.

  15. skywarp says:

ughh.. the guy was clearly a mess his ofeensive sets are a mess.. he has no plan what so ever.. its like pass it to nash and nash will find the open player.. keep on running, box out, i mean his more of a motivational speaker than a coach… while you have popovich who counter all of your moves… and if only d’antoni rest hill! he may still be playing.. hill should have average 20 mins this season instead d antoni had him playing him 30+ damn that guy…

  16. PALakerFan says:

I’d go to Chicago or New York if I was him. He really didn’t deserve to be fired. Kerr’s messin’ that team all up. Chicago has the athlete’s to run his system and they’d be back to 50 wins in the weak-ass East next year. He would definitely be a better hire than Mark Jackson. He could have the Knicks above 40 wins next year just by getting the team excited about playing again.

  17. Jim says:

Oh, are they bringing in Kurt Thomas to replace him?

  18. PALakerFan says:

Oh yeah, D’Antoni can never get his team to the Championship. I’m not saying he’s a great coach. He’s a modern day Don Nelson - gets your team to the playoffs every year but never wins the big one. If you’re New York though, that’s a big step forward from where you’re at right now.

  19. penske1 says:

#8 - The Nuggets with D’Antoni would be SICK! Good call.

  20. dapro says:

Offensively he can coach his ass off but he doesn’t know how to match up against the opposing team. Somebody else mentioned this but he needs to be paired with a defensive assistant coach like Tom Thibodeau in Boston. He maximized the talent around him in Phoenix but they have 3 defensive liabilities in Nash, Stoudamire and Shaq. It’s not all his fault.

  21. Logan Light says:

Walsh, give this guy a call. New York needs to see an up tempo exciting game! Think about it… even when Phoenix loses, people still show up in droves cause they know there’s gonna be a show. You add that to the Knickers and its cash.

Oh and the Nuggets would be exactly the same… NO DEFENSE.

  22. MSkittle says:

No way! Kerr should be let go before he is!

  23. Kobeef says:

I don’t think the Nuggets need any more encourgement that offense wins games. D’Antoni does not help put the D back in Denver

It is totally unfair that this mess is blamed on Mike D. The trade for Shaq was one of the most bizarre trades in NBA history (washed-up player with massive contract for player in his prime) and Kerr is the only one to blame for that. This team is a mess and needs to be blown-up. Keep Amare and send everyone else packing.

  24. doc says:

Kerr came in and fucked that team up.How the fuck is Kerr a GM anyway.

  25. fallinup says:

Everyone calling for Kerr’s head should note that Kerr was the last one to sign off on the Shaq deal. Nash, Coach D’Antoni, and the owner was pushing for Shaq…Kerr was the final “Yes”.

As far as D’Antoni’s future…he aint going no where, and it would be extra dumb to pull the trigger on Kerr’s part. They need defensive stoppers, I still think Shaq wasn’t the answer…Duncan didn’t kill PHX, it was Parker. (hint hint, Nash.)

  26. Suciniac says:

Does this mean Phoenix will be more of a half court team like the Spurs????If that’s the case there will be a few player trades coming up as well because that team is not built for a half court game. How in the hell Shaq and his FT’s are not getting any blame for this series is completely beyond me.They gave away their backup PG and best rebounder/defender away for this???

  27. Austin Burton says:

I’m just tired of watching D’Antoni whine and berate the refs every game.

  28. Lady Luck says:

I don’t think D’Antoni should be fired. The trade was monumental and totally changed their team…with just 2 months left in the season. You can’t incorporate a player like Shaq….on top of that lose your best defender/rebounder/slasher at the same time. As much as people want to say that Nash made Marion better and inflated his stats, Marion contributed way more than just offense. And we all know Nash is only valuable on offense. The bottom line is as most of you said, the Suns have given away good players and draft picks. Now you are left with a team with a shallow bench, and no identity. They should have kept Kurt Thomas…and how amazing would Rondo be with them? Nash would surely be feeling the heat if Rondo was on the bench since he is a much better defender.

Bottom line if they are going to fire D’Antoni…can the Cavs hire him and we could have the first ever set of co-Head coaches? We keep Brown for Defense and D’antoni for offense.

If they fire D’antoni…who will his replacement be? Why hasn’t Carlisle found a job yet? Would he be a good fit?

  29. foolio_iglesias says:

Don’t think for one second that any other coach can take this team as currently constructed as far as they have gone. That being said,I say give this team one more season,WITH training camp and I say we see a different outcome…

  30. GEE...While you was in diapers wettin your sheets, I was at the Ponderosa rappin to the beat says:

foolio I think Paul Silas would do wonders with this group. Specially with that front line.

D’antoni would make an awesome assistant to me.

    Avery the same.

Few excellent head coaches to me.

George Karl needs to quit altogether and become a pr man for Kimboooooooo Sliiiice!

  31. Claw says:

Need to dump Nash, he looked old in this series and the three turnovers in the last few minutes did them in. The Kurt Thomas salary dumping did them in also AND they gave up a 1st round pick.

If D’Antonio is fired, who you going to get to replace him that’s better?

Maybe Dallas and Phoenix should trade coaches.

Like GEE’s breakout of the John Wayne rap, that’s old school.

  32. Prof. TX says:

Looks like it’s official that Avery’s out too.
This could be another one of those summers. Bobcats, Suns, Mavs, Bulls, Heat and Knicks confirmed so far for coaching changes. Maybe Sonics or Raptors too. If the Cavs, Pistons or Celts fall apart early then those coaches might take the blame.
    Who else?
