“He jumped over his head!!”
What do you think of this dunk? When Will Bullard from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi pulled it off in the NCAA dunk contest last night, a lot of people in the Dime office (there for our Nike ID party) were unimpressed because Bullard used his hand to catapult himself over the guy. My thing is that the dude he jumped over is 6-foot-9 (Bullard is 6-4). By comparison, 6-7 Gerald Green got props for jumping over 5-8 Nate Robinson and Nate got a perfect score when he went over 5-7 Spud Webb. Very rarely will dunkers jump over someone who is taller than them; it’s usually over shorter guys, kids and sometimes cheerleaders. And yeah, Bullard used his hand, but it’s not like the guy ducked down that much. And besides, THIS GUY used his hand, too, and we can all agree his dunk was an all-time great.

See that is what’s happening. We are have seen so much we expect so much more. You a short dude jumping over a taller one. You can use your hand, elbow and whatever, that is a feat.
We are a point where we want someone to jump from the free throw line, over a 7 footer in the lane clean and take it around your back once before you finish with a statue of liberty.
Pump ya breaks!

Eh…to me, the hand made it less spectacular. The dunk itself, I’ll give it a 8.5….the dance at the end, -4.

well considerin he did the same dunk 3 times in a row it kinda sucked. plus guys like sky walker and what not have been doin this for a minute. BUT considering hes a no name and 90% of people who jump over guys use the arm boost, its ok with me. besides its not like he won because of it. I mean not only did he pretty much land on the guys his final attempt, when asked if the guy would get a massage he was just like “nah” thats cold

Nah man you can’t get that off VC did that dunk in a game against a taller guy and even what looks like farther away from the rim…he also didn’t use his hand as much for support as this guy does. The dunk is impressive…I can’t do it…but if you’re going to dunk over somebody make sure you can actually jump over them. He might as well have had a trampoline. lol. ok that’s an exaggeration.

nah, totally diff comparison, VC wasin game, no prep or practice, and like karizmatic said, didnt use the hand for pushing off as much as here. Even with the hand to push off, he didn’t clear the guy cleanly, the standing man stillhad to duck his head…

9/10. dude still got hops regardless of the hand and its not like he used it to push off with it was more so to support him in hang time. he jumped that high on his own, he got hops.

Vince Carter’s dunk in the olympics is still the best dunk ever…

A lot of guys use their arms to clear out defenders or to maintain balance when dunking, driving, or what have you nowadays. It sort of cheapens the play in my opinion. The Lipton is still the greatest dunk of all time because:
1) It was in-game, not a trick dunk. Not just in any game, an Olympic event. The Olympics is arguably the biggest stage there is in sports. The only other event that can possibly contend is the World Cup.
2) Will (6-4) had to account for the 5 inch height difference in order to pull it off. Vince (6-6) had 8 inches to clear. Weis is 7-2. Not to take away from Will, (I can’t do a dunk like that) but that’s nowhere near Vince level.

Dumbass dime, “THAT GUY” jumped over a 7 footer who didn’t duck for him. Even if I had Vince’s ridiculous hops, I’ll use my hand to protect the crown jewels as well.
Don’t compare this Melo-wannabe with the greatest dunker of all time.

Austin Burton says:
1. No one’s comparing Bullard to Vince; I’m just saying that using your hand to help elevate over a tall guy isn’t the worst thing in the world on a dunk.
2. Weis was not standing a full 7-2 when Vince jumper over him. He ducked his head just a bit, which is just what Bullard’s boy did.

I LOVE this dude’s after-dunk moves (not the dancing)…like the 360 he did when he spun around again after the dunk….nice style

Another thought:
I’ve never seen dude play or anything, but from what I saw in the contest, doesn’t he seem like the next Ricky Davis?

He’s not much of a player. He averaged like 3-4 points a game at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. His ceiling is probably AND 1.
