Larry Brown’s Next Job
In light of this, here are our odds for where Larry “Next Town” Brown (thanks Peter Vecsey) will coach next season…
4:1 – CHICAGO
The Bulls have the best chance to get right back into their conference’s upper tier after a down year. They also have a good balance of vets and youth, some intriguing projects like Tyrus Thomas and Aaron Gray, and the fact that Chicago is a major market doesn’t hurt the always attention-loving LB.
5:1 – CHARLOTTE
MJ loves Larry. Larry loves MJ. The Carolina connection is there, plus the Bobcats have real talent that hasn’t been realized. MJ definitely at least has a conversation with Brown.
6:1 – STANFORD
There are these rumors out there. Still, you gotta think Larry looks at the NBA first. But if Tim Floyd can all of a sudden land five-star recruits at USC because of his pro coaching resume (which isn’t much of a resume), imagine the pull Larry Brown’s championship ring and track record with guys like A.I. and Chauncey Billups will have on impressionable high school stars.
8:1 – DALLAS
If the Mavs lose in the first round again, it is very possible that Avery Johnson won’t survive a frustrated Mark Cuban or the city’s collective disappointment. Dallas represents the best chance to win right now, but LB might be wary of entering another situation where his boss has a bigger ego than him.
15:1 – ATLANTA
Mike Woodson is gone as soon as the Celtics shut the door on these Hawks, and although Atlanta has talent, they aren’t winning a ‘chip anytime soon. Plus, Larry’s not trying to coach in front of 5,000 fans every night.
20:1 – THE FIELD (NBA)
All of the axes haven’t fallen yet. Let’s see what happens after the playoffs. (That means you, George Karl.) The Heat easily could have been on this list.
20:1 – THE FIELD (COLLEGE)
Indiana would have been a great spot if they didn’t land Tom Crean. Let’s see if another major opportunity presents itself now that Brown has declared he wants to coach again.
1,000,000:1 – NEW YORK
Would Larry relish the chance to officially declare victory over “Adviser who can’t talk to anyone or make any decisions” Isiah Thomas? No way this goes down, but hey, amazing does happen here so you never really know.

CHITOWN! CHITOWN! CHITOWN! Chicago needs a big named coach. The players need some semblance of a system. And Pax just needs to sit down, and let LB tell him what the team needs. But the real question is, will Reinsdorf actually foot the bill for LB? That’s the BIG question.

I could see Larry going to Dallas but I don’t see him and Mark working out for long.
Larry would be better served to go to a more established team than a team he has to wait to become good through gm moves and other intangibles.

Chitown Brown says:
Reinsdorf pays. He either is going to pay for Carlisle or Brown. I’d rather Carlisle. I like the attention on my players. Not my coach.

Charlotte says:
I’d love to see him at Charlotte. He’d make us a real team right away. I don’t know if Jordan would fire Vincent though and admit that mistake. I could see the Chicago thing happening.

I bet my husband last night that LB will end up in Denver. AI never did better than when he had LB as a coach. That teams actually needs him.

Moonpie says:
Chicago really? A coach who doesn’t get along with his players, who always has to have things done his way, and who refuses to develop young talent? Uh sounds like the coach Chicago just had… FAIL

I actually wouldn’t mind seeing LB back in Detroit. Too bad he burned his bridges thoroughly there. Had he stayed, people would be talking Detroit dynasty instead of San Antonio…

larry brown? who cares? way past his best before date. any gm who thinks he can still win in the league is delusional. any div 1 athletic director willing to shell out the $ needed to get him probably has an expensive moon rock collection too.

WAIT WAIT WAIT!!!
LB to Chicago? you gotta be effin kiddin me! we have a young team true and need guidance, discipline, and expert coaching. but we also need a coach who can relate to the players, not damage their ego. I agree with everything Moonpie said, as well as ChiTown Brown in that I wud rather see Carlisle on the bench and not LB. an interesting option to keep your eyes on though is Avery Johnson….

AI loves Larry now.
Melo though, still doesn’t…

GEE...Until you do right by me... says:
I think AI could convince Melo to chill, till Melo does his yearly F(&% up!
LB would have them boys playing D and still giving points.
Pistons revisited …basketball the right way.
I like Larry.
What would it be like for Bobby Knight to coach in the L. To much of a temper I think. Cause you ain’t gone choke a grown man. Throwing a chair would be funny still though.

Isn’t NY still paying LB? If he ends up back in NY, that would be the ultimate hustle.

control says:
Larry Brown should go work for TNT because they like drama there. This primadonna has no place running a team after his stops in Detroit and New York. Detroit would probably have another championship if it wasnt for his retarded antics totally KILLING the team in the playoffs. No need to comment on New York, he got the last laugh by making like 30 million for one year of selecting his lineups and playing time using a dart board. James Dolan himself could have coached the team better.
This guy has the resume, no doubt, but he brings way too much drama and whining, etc to the team that it will undermine any chance it has to suceed. It would be like having a teenage girl coach.
