This is Kinda Crazy
This was in Sekou Smith’s Atlanta Journal-Constitution blog today:
Boston – Mike Woodson is either the most delusional coach in the history of NBA basketball or missing his calling on the $400-a-plate rubber chicken circuit.
Because he’s talking championship with his team set to face the league-leading Boston Celtics in a first-round playoff matchup just hours from now, while the rest of the [real] world expects his team’s season to end in the next four games.
Everything Woodson’s done up to this point screams title chase – from the photocopied images of the Larry O’Brien trophy taped to the inside wall of all his players’ lockers to the diamond-dripping finger weight he’s wearing around town now, courtesy of his championship run with Detroit in 2004 as Larry Brown’s top assistant.
I don’t know if you should admire the guy for believing in the unbelievable or help sign the petition to get him committed for the same the thing.
We’re all for carrying yourself with confidence and trying to instill your team with championship aspirations, but after watching the game last night, all of this is a little much. How often do teams win a game (let alone a playoff series or championship) when their offense for an entire game consists of one pass and then going one-on-one against the league’s best defense?

his players are probably saying to themselves: “is he for real?”

GEE..If you like fish & grits and all that pimp ish says:
Hey it’s better than George Karl and his assistants all bumping into each other before the game like a mosh pit and then going out and getting totally out-played and coached.
Dream Big I know I am.

so what do you think the odds are, 1000/1? 10,000/1? that they win the ’ship..
thats still much better odds than every 8 year old kid whos dream is to play in the L one day actually making it, should we start pointing at them and laughing when they say there gonna play in the NBA?
this stuff could inspire them to get a win, maybe two.
but next year, and the year after with the experience this team really could win it all.
im sure you guys would rather have woodson throw in the towel and not even try right?
so then you could be on him like you have all season for one thing or another, give the dude a break.

What’s wrong with playing to win? If you’re in the playoffs you CAN win, however slim the odds. That’s why they play the games.
