What Happened to Baron
Why was Baron Davis benched for the entire second half of the most important game of the Warriors’ season against the Suns on Monday night? Let’s let Nellie explain (as quoted on ESPN.com today):
“He was having a bad game. He was terrible,” Nelson said of Davis, according to the Chronicle. “He was the worst player on the floor, and I told him to take the second half off. He was 2-for-13, we were down 14 points. “I said, ‘Hey, let’s relax and play some young guys.’”
Later on in the story, when asked if there was a rift between the two of them, Nellie followed up with this gem: “There’s no problem between Baron and [me],” Nelson said, according to the report. “He’s probably upset because he played terrible.”

When it’s the 80th game of the season and a loss eliminates you from the playoffs, it’s not time to “play some young guys”! That’s either the stupidest coaching move (this side of Mike Brown) in the last 10 years, or something is going on here that’s has yet emerged.

There has to be more to this story than what’s being said. No one…not even Mike Brown would’ve made that call. It just doesn’t make sense.

NO EXCUSE! How many times has T-Mac shot horrid (more than I would like to remember) yet of course the coach keeps him in and some way he comes through in the end.
I have no prob with the coach sitting him for a minute, but towards the crunch when G.S. had a chance to win it, you get your star out there!
That is just a horrible decision and if I am over Don, I would consider really letting him, small ball, and bad decisions go somewhere else.
Baron should be pissed off and frankly the rest of the team too.

(I wonder)there must be something that Davis did, to deserve the benching…both guys seems to be dealing with the situation professionally. Can anyone think of a nba player that would be understanding and not lashing out at the coach if they didnt do something to get benched….sucks for us Gstate fans.

if u gonna lose a game that decides ur playoff fate—fuck it; go down with ur best on the court. leave no room to 2nd guess urself
how many times did baron shoot poorly in a 1st half when they were down and still came out to play the 2nd half thru the 1st 80 games?

I have to agree that something else is going on. 1. Baron is way to calm. Imagine Kobe, Tracy or any other superstar. 2. Nellie is not coming with all that is the reason, cause he himself knows that lame excuse he is giving is not sufficient for nobody. 3. B-Diddy might be out or Nellie one.
As Keith Sweat would whine…”Somethin Somethin, Somethin Somethin just ain’t right”

I can’t believe that he benched B-diddy the entire 2nd half!!
There is something that occurred that we don’t know about.
I believe that Baron is going to opt out of his contract this year.
1. Because they have 9 players becoming free agents
2. Don Nelson is a schizo
I just don’t understand his coaching philosophy.
You trade Jason richardson for size that you don’t use in Brandon Wright
You draft bellinelli as a possible replacement and who showed much promise in the preseason and you don’t use him.
Don Nelson sucks!!!
Hope I wasn’t to politically uncorrect. LOL!!

Yea I remember that, dude also was on Martin one time.
Marlon is to funny. Dude cracked me up as that trainer on Norbit, “Imma do like Jesus H. Christ and turn the other cheek!” Dude is a pure nut.
Still keepin it ballin though, Baron should be out.
I am thinking, ok this coach just sat his “Star” player during the time when he was needed most. His only reason is Baron was not playing well. So that leads me to think, that if Nellie will do this just on a game that could have saved playoff hopes, no telling what he could do in the playoffs or otherwise.
Just think pivtol game 7 to get to the finals or GOD forbid win it all, and he sits B. W.T.F! Yea one of them got to go and I would rather Nellie, but if not then B. Houston could certaaaaainly use you!

Nellie ball at its finest…
Don Nelson is unconventional… No other coach would even attempt what he did…
BUT, GS was down 14 at the half… he sits Boom Dizzle the 3rd quarter, and GS enters the 4th quarter up by 5…
He sits him for the start of the 4th quarter, and then GS builds their lead the 11 with 7 mins to go…
What do you do then?
Bring in your star player, who, at this time has to be cold, because he hasnt played for the last half hour( 17 game time + halftime + time outs )
I wouldn’t keep him out, No other coach would keep him out, but Nellie would… and up until that point, it was a working…
he *almost* got away with it…

Nellie is hard to figure, but that’s what has helped him win games that he shouldn’t have won in the past.
Remember he almost single handedly developed a guy called Dirk Nowitzki. It’s safe to say that *everyone* wrote Dirk off when he entered the league.
