Photo. Chris SembrotAre the Lakers in trouble? Just a few days ago L.A. seemed unbeatable, but now after two straight losses to even up their series with the Jazz and Kobe’s back all of a sudden acting up, you have to wonder about them. Now that the honeymoon is over and the path to the Finals doesn’t look as clear, be prepared to start hearing people (including panicking Lakers fans) bringing up Andrew Bynum’s absence, the lack of someone who can guard Deron Williams, and the lack of someone who can get in Mehmet Okur’s face when he’s drilling three-pointers all over the place … In Utah’s overtime Game 4 win yesterday, Memo (18 pts, 11 rebs, 5 asts) hit a couple of huge shots in the extra frame, one from beyond the arc and another where his foot was just on the line. Okur ended up notching his seventh double-double in 10 postseason games. No one’s really talking about it, but he’s by far been Utah’s second-best player lately … Playing 46 minutes despite back spasms that bugged him all day, Kobe put up 33 points, 8 boards and 10 assists. There were times when he was obviously laboring — or some would say putting up a huge asterisk with the constant wincing — but that didn’t stop him from jacking up 33 shots from the field, going 1-for-10 from deep. In the fourth quarter and OT, Kobe went 2-for-13 … Derek Fisher made one outstanding defensive play on Deron, blocking his jumper as the regulation clock expired, but other than that, Fish and Jordan Farmar have taken turns being lit up by Deron (29 pts, 14 asts) this whole series. If his back is OK by Game 5, is it time to have Kobe assume his Team USA role and sic him on Williams? … Sign in the crowd: “We love Booz, even on Sundays.” … Was that Ronny Turiaf Flagrant-2 on Ronnie Price really THAT bad? We’d say no. It looked worse because of how Price landed, which shouldn’t be taken into consideration. Funny how Price popped up like he wanted to take a swing, then realized he could’ve gotten cremated by Turiaf and walked the other way … E-mail from Andrew: “Could Turiaf possibly be for Kobe what MJ has in Charles Oakley? Mamba likes him enough to include him in the Hyperdunk/Aston Martin stunt, and you see how Turiaf wears Kobe’s sneakers every game. He’s probably the strongest guy on the Lakers. Turiaf will laugh at his jokes, and that’s all Kobe really wants anyway.” … Stitched up after the flagrant foul, Price later chased down Luke Walton on a breakaway and sent his stuff to the popcorn man. That’s all Luke’s fault for going up weak like that … Looking a little farther ahead, we checked out Utah’s salary cap situation, and while they’re paying a bit of a luxury tax now and have to figure out an extension for Deron Williams next summer, they do have all their key guys under contract next season except for Paul Millsap, for whom the team has an option. And did you know Millsap still makes less than $1 million? But Larry Hughes is making at least $12 million per for the next two years. That’s fair … The “Spurs are done” talk is significantly quieter this morning after Tim Duncan (22 pts, 15 rebs, 4 blks) and Tony Parker (21 pts, 8 asts) led a Grade-A ass-whuppin’ of the Hornets in Game 4. TP was scooting by Chris Paul at will and getting layups, while Duncan was a magnet for contact in getting a bunch of and-ones while KILLING Tyson Chandler and Melvin Ely (who played a whole 4 seconds and gave up a bucket-plus-one in that span). It seemed every Spur who touched the floor contributed in a game where the young Hornets showed their age … San Antonio was locked in right away; you could tell early that they were not losing that game. One time Duncan was posted up on the left side about to take an entry pass from Parker when he screamed at Bruce Bowen to get out of the left corner and go to other side as not to mess up their floor spacing. Reggie Miller also pointed out how far Parker has come in his game management, when a wired-for-sound Gregg Popovich was heard telling TP, “It’s your game.” You never would have heard that a few years ago … Reggie after Duncan swatted Jannero Pargo: “Am I my brother’s keeper?!? Tim Duncan with the block!” What other announcer would be quoting New Jack City on national TV? Although we could see Calvin Murphy quoting Cotton Comes to Harlem or something … Celebrity watch at a Spurs game gives you Tommy Lee Jones, Eva Longoria and a bunch of country singers. Also in the building was the guy who plays Eva’s husband on “Desperate Housewives.” How weird must it be for Tony to be in the same room with the guy who’s kissing his wife on TV every week? Probably not nearly as uncomfortable as dating a porn actress and being around one of her co-stars … Robert Horry checked in during the second quarter and officially tied with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most-ever playoff appearances at 237. And as soon as he came in, Horry immediately hit a turnaround J, then guarded CP and David West on the same play and forced West into a miss. Apparently Horry told Popovich before the game not to put him in just for the sake of the record — that he didn’t want to play unless there was an actual need for him. Seriously, does any NBA player dictate his own playing time more than Big Shot Rob? During the regular season he basically told the team, “I’m gonna take a break until December,” then in the playoffs he’s telling Pop when and how to use him. Those seven rings must hold serious weight in politicking sessions … You can’t underestimate how much better the Spurs’ defense has been since Bowen was switched from CP onto Peja. The Hornets have three games to figure this out … In the third quarter Manu Ginobili got a flat-footed offensive rebound amongst the trees, started to bring the ball back out than pulled a Jordan-on-the-Knicks move and duped N.O. into sending him to the line. Chandler (2 pts, 4 rebs, 5 fouls), who’d been keeping his cool despite the Duncan destruction, finally lost it after that one … Chris Paul (23 pts, 5 asts) is in the Dwyane Wade portion of his career as far as getting superstar calls. One time in the third quarter he drove on Parker, blatantly pushed off with his forearm, took at least three steps without dribbling, but got the call anyway and went to the line … How important is Parker to the whole San Antone system? Popovich sat him for the last couple minutes of the third quarter, going with Manu (15 pts, 8 asts) and Ime Udoka in the backcourt, and they proceeded to turn the ball over four straight times. And yet the Hornets still couldn’t get a single point out of that … Message sent by Byron Scott: At the beginning of the fourth quarter he benched the starters and trotted out a lineup of Mike James, Bonzi Wells, Julian Wright, Ryan Bowen and Hilton Armstrong … Have you seen the names that are popping up in the Suns’ coaching search? Everyone from Mario Elie to Vinny Del Negro to Dan Majerle to Eddie Johnson. So apparently the qualifications are that you have to have once played for the Suns, and you have to possess a wet jumper. So can our man Craig Hodges get some love? How about Jeff Hornacek or Wesley Person? Or how about one of these years down the line — and imagine if this could happen — COACH STEPH … We’re out like Oakley 2.0 …

Damn . . . ZERO mention by Smack of AK’s 5 blocks, a few violent ones on kobe, esp in the overtime. That’s two games in a row where in crunch time AK has gone all Draggo to Kobe’s Apollo. (Not saying that AK > Kobe, not saying that Jazz > Lakers, and not saying that Lakers will lose to the jazz in this series)
In other news, Larry H. Miller has already gone on record saying that he is willing to pay the Lux tax for 1 to 2 seasons in order to keep this core together. Also something that was under reported is that AK asked to have his contract renegotiated a while back in order to make less so that they could be more flexible in terms of the cap. His request was denied by the NBA players assoc. In fact, Larry H. Miller was only able to get Fisher’s deal nix because he had to make about 8 calls to get it done. NBA wasn’t going to hear it from him again in order to make a guy on his team earn less for the good of the team.

You know what’s funny? We must’ve seen at least 4 or 5 series this playoff season when a team has gone up 2-0 after winning at home. And everybody out there is saying, “Oh, this series is done. Atlanta can’t hang with the Boston 3-Party. Chris Paul is making the Spurs look old. Washington is done with or without Agent Zero.” Haven’t we learned already??? 2-0 don’t mean jack s#!t.
All 2-0 means is that the team that was supposed to win at home took care of bizness. That’s the way it’s always been.
It’s uncanny. I don’t know how the hell it works. But when you’re at home, the basket just looks familiar, I guess, because all of your role players are hitting their shots like it’s Monday shootaround. This week, let’s go back to Boston and watch Delonte and Wally miss everything. Watch New Orleans get their “organized playground offense” rolling again. Kobe will go back to being Kobe. And Detroit will…..well, never mind Detroit. They had that ish wrapped up awhile ago…

Hopefully Kobe isn’t too banged up. even if he is he’s still gonna demand double teams in game 5. They need to run the offense more instead of watching Kobe. Kobe did force a lot of shots during the end and that kinda cost them. Fish was hot..should of sent it to him. No game 7 please.

Back problems are a b**** ain’t they lol. I hate that for Kobe seriously. Now between Cleveland and Lakers fans they get a glimpse into the sorrow that Houston fans experience. I promise T-Mac needs to drink more milk. Anyway I hope Kobe gets over it, cause if it runs the course of Mac…it won’t be good.
Still taking Derek Fisher as a top 5 guard in the playoffs that you want. In my opinion Derek has done a very decent job guarding D.Will. I don’t see where, outside of the Pistons team D, anyone else is shutting down a star. Kobe, T.P., CP and others are still getting theirs.
Not to mention Derek was cold on em’ in the fourth droppin 10 by himself and putting that D on D. Will for that block.
So sure put Kobe on him, and I bet you D. Will still gets 20 something points.
It’s not like D will is getting them straight up sometimes as Kobe pullin in someone face or a turn around baseline stint or something.
Deron is coming of picks and rolls and running through screens and what not.
Derek did just fine, Lakers should stick with what they have. Wasn’t like Deron was the one hurting them in overtime. Whoever is guarding Okur and Boozer should really have the microscope on them.
If anything I just wish Derek could create his own shot more. Defensively and smart wise he is awesome.
Ain’t no way Turiaf is an Oakley. It was funny though but most everyone knew lil dude Price wasn’t gonna do nothing.
Already smelling game 7’s with San An./N.O. and Lakers/Jazz (Althouh Lakers may close in 6).

Spurs-Lakers is a great matchup to look forward to, but both teams need to focus for game 5. If they have that killer championship instinct, they’ll both take game 5.
Watching the post-game from Popovich, Parker and Duncan last night, they all looked completely locked in and concentrated. They know they have a tough one in NO. But the Champs is woke up, ya’ll. Hornets smacked them and got their full attention. Let’s see if the young hornets can step up and take control of the series. This game 5 should be awesome!
May 12th, 2008 at 9:39 am
Kobeef says:
The Lakers and the Hornets should both be very concerned at this point. I’d say the Hornets are looking most likely to get knocked out of the two.
Yesterday’s spurs game was a complete domination but I don’t get benching your starters in game 4. Maybe you want to send a message in a regular season game but in the playoffs you need to let your guys try to make a run. We have seen Lebron and Deron lead their teams back from behind a few times already…why not put the same heat on CP3?
Apparently Trevor Ariza is getting a second opinion on coming back. The Lakers could really use him right now because Luke is looking like a waste of money. Seriously, the only thing he has is “IQ” and that is apparently gone with all the dumb plays he’s making. Ariza plays great D and can at least make some shots.

This is from the San Antonio papers: “This is also what happens when you have Bruce Bowen. He continued to carry around Peja Stojakovic as New Orleans fans do — with his head on a stick. Stojakovic is 5 of 16 since the switch.
The various Spurs big men have a better read on David West now. Paul is being held to numbers associated with humans. And Jannero Pargo — the Jannero Pargo — is the one taking 14 shots. ”
The real question is, what adjustment can Byron Scott and the Hornets make now? Maybe it’s just Paul and West simply making their jump shots… but Chandler was invisible and Peja has plain disappeared.
May 12th, 2008 at 9:49 am

David West (kinda) kept his altercation streak alive when he hit Oberto I think it was with an elbow. When he did that I e-mailed Katz and said, “He’s gonna do something dumb in the next 10 minutes,” which fortunately he didn’t. But I predict West has an “incident” in Game 5 that ventures into suspension territory.

its funny how everybody hates on kobe, as if jordan didn’t take all the shots(and also missed some, remeber?)in crunch time.
i think there’s no differnce in the way they are involving their teamates between mj and kobe.maybe jordan was even more of a ballhog, but nobodys talking about it because he was soooo great…

K Dizzle - Nonpanickin Laker fan says:
Are the Lakers in trouble? No
Big picture, Dime.
1) Jazz are 41-5 at home, meanin they never lose there. Lakers lost game 3 by 5 and lose game 4 in ot, when they were down 12 with just over 2 minutes to go.
2) D Will didn’t light Fish up. If you saw the game, Fish was on the bench with foul trouble from 3 minutes in and only played 28 minutes. Farmar, on the other hand…
3) Kobe had a non-MVP game, a reversion to the old days, jackin up shots to prove toughness when others are on fire. Utah had nuthin for Lamar(10 in the 4th) and Fish’s 3 3s in a row had the jazz shook. Kobe shoulda kept feedin them. 10 assists was nice but it shoulda been 13-15. Gasol’s missed dunk didn’t help, but that quick spin move on Okur was tight.
4) Turiaf’s F2 foul was a joke. Price was tryin to get an afterwhistle dunk and got bounced. That’s usually what happens when you hit a dude twice your size in the air, the play was on the ball.
Utah needed a monster game from Booz to barely pull out game 3 and Williams willed them in game 4.D-Fish is obviously our key cuz the Jazz don’t guard 3s well, and he’s the only one who’s been able to slow Deron down. I expected a split but all in all, at least we didn’t get blown out like New Orleans. Watchin Kobe gut through his back pain and still attack the rim verifies for me how much of a b***h Vince really is. That may be kinda cheap cuz we know Vince ain’t Kobe mentally, but they damn near the same athletically.
See you in LA

@ austin, west has been borderline either fighting OR crying. every time i look at the guy, he looks like he is going to try to take dirks head off, or he is going to sit down in tears.
the wife and i came to realize last night, david west looks like the persian general who gets his head cut off by the fat guy with knifes on his arms in the movie 300. if he grew the goatee out some and braided it, i think he could have been that guy no problem!
May 12th, 2008 at 9:59 am
djKianoosh says:
Austin you’re so right.. Barkley was saying something along the same lines that West just has to get over whatever Oberto and Thomas are doing to him. all the ticky tack stuff he’s just got to let go and keep going at them. for sure, those two “crafty” guys have no chance to stop West if he’s hitting his jumpers like he was in New Orleans. so their only hope is if they get into West’s head like that.
First play of the 3rd quarter I think they went to West and he turned it over. He was soooo close to getting a T. Maybe Oberto and Thomas’s fouls are taking their toll on him.

The Uber-Persion was known in the WWF as “Kurrgan.” I remember he was in that group The Oddities who had Insane Clown Posse coming to the ring with them sometimes, and he was also in a group called The Truth Commission. For such a bad wrestler it’s amazing that he was actually trained by Bret Hart’s dad. If they ever do another Street Fighter movie, he should play Zangief.

Yea Kurrgan lol The Oddities were funny but horrible.
I think Triple H could have been in 300 he has that warrior look.
Got to think the Jazz, and rightfully so to a degree, are going to be waaaay more physical with Kobe. Hope he is ready for a rough one in the next game.

yes 300 is a very goof flick. while the story is not exactly in line with the real battle, (it is adapted from a comic book) it actually has some historical realities.
“then we’ll fight in the shade” is believed to be a real quote from the actual battle.
it is over the top, and great. the actors went through some HARD training to get in shape for the roles.

I saw something on History Channel over the weekend about how 1,000 of the Acadians actually stayed behind to fight with Leonidas. Not all of them bounced. The Spartans were still massively outnumbered, but it wasn’t just the 300 in that last battle/kamikaze mission.

@GayforRudy im not going to debate with you whats worst, sore ass and wrist or lower back. but i know that you can run and jump and all kind of things with sore ass and sore wrist, while with back problems ( probably pinched nerve or something) only thing that really helps is painkillers taken with shot in spine. as you also know, all upper body weight lies on spine. then when you try to run, you feel painful jolts trough your legs, often followed with cramps, due to constant strain of muscles to ease the pain. im not defending kobe, i think pjack should’ve left him on bench in final minutes, im only saying that i respect him for trying to play trough pain. anyone remebers tmac from few years ago, when he had to be taken away from court, if i remeber correctly on strechers? and kobe played full game with same or similar pain. thats all…

yeah austin, the actual history had the acadians fighting from ships as well. they destroyed a ton of persian ships to help the spartans, had the spartans been attacked by land and sea they would not have even lasted as long as they did. they made the persians fight on 2 fronts
May 12th, 2008 at 11:12 am

The Laker’s problem is defense. Play some will ya? Kobe should’ve kept getting it to Fish, but he was trying to go Jordan on Utah - lead the team to victory while being sick/injured.

Dave says:
it was good to see the “old” Kobe back in Salt Lake clanking shots left and right, grabbing his back when he got swatted…..good drama.
did anyone else notice the reaction of the fans when Turiaf fouled Price? The place exploded.
So here’s why the Jazz feel good right now heading into the last 3 games:
Boozer has played his worst basketball in 2 years and it’s tied up.
Once Memo gets on a roll he’s tough to stop and usually goes on streaks of about 10 games where he’s lights out, he started hitting his outside shots and I can see it coming.
Jazz bench owns Lakers bench.
5 guys can guard Kobe and be physical. Harpring alone will give him fits on both ends of the floor.
Kobe and Fish are the only Lakers with any playoff success….everyone else will tighten up.
If the Jazz hit a couple of shots in games 1 or 2 down the stretch it’s already 3-1 Utah….or maybe even a sweep.
The Lakers now have an excuse to lose, Kobe’s back is injured.
May 12th, 2008 at 11:32 am
rangerjohn says:
oh come on gee, you know it is kinda funny really.
especially the irony of the fact that neither player plays much hurt, they tend to miss more games combined then i think any other players in the league.

Mister Sun says:
@Dave
“If the Jazz hit a couple of shots in games 1 or 2 down the stretch it’s already 3-1 Utah….or maybe even a sweep.”
sweep? of course..
and if im not wrong the closest games were the ones in utah. and if the lakers would have hit more shots in those games… and if malone would still be there and if lebron played for utah and if if if… laughable
May 12th, 2008 at 11:41 am
Utes Fan says:
Whats with the hate toward Ronnie Price. He plays four minutes a game backing up second team All NBA Deron Williams. He almost always makes something positive happen when he is on the court. He was flagrantly fouled, required stitches to close the cut on his head. He came back and blocked Walton’s shot. Walton has at least six inches on him. Price played like a stud.
May 12th, 2008 at 11:43 am
Dave says:
Mister Sun….in both games one and two the Jazz were within 4 points with under 5 minutes to play and then proceeded to miss 8 straight shots. Granted it may have ended up still with a Lakers win but as we’ve seen in the two close games in Salt Lake the Jazz execute better down the stretch when it’s close.
I was merely telling you why the Jazz feel good about the series now, obviously you either lost money on the game or are having a tough time with the reality that the Jazz have the momentum in the series and a good shot to win.

Still get off my team lol.
Dave Harpring gets lit up like the rest.
You seriously aren’t saying total playoffs thus far your Jazz are playing better than the Lakers. Cause the Jazz are “lucky” to get out of Utah with it not being 3-1. Okur has been saving your A**, not to mention that Old Boozer came back. Still your group doesn’t look like the type to take 4 against the Lakers….unless Kobe is actually hurt.
Utes no hate just laughing at dude for poppin up like he was actually going to do something, when he didn’t want no paaaarrrrtzzz of “The Cheerleader”. For real though yea Price plays hard, but that block was good, but it was more because Luke went up like a pus**!

DaPro says:
Ok I’m sold I’ll check out 300
Somebody nailed it earlier, Kobe wanted the “MJ flu” game. We know Kobe has a flair for the dramatics and understands the history of the league.
The Lakers might be in trouble if Kobe goes Machine Gun funk and shoots all day long. Odom was putting in work and so was Fish. Odom doesn’t always look confident out there and you could tell yesterday that he had it going. The next game will say alot, if Kobe loses confidence in his teammates again-it’s a wrap
May 12th, 2008 at 11:59 am

you know i am a spurs fan but i live in houston, i have season tickets to the rockets (company tickets) and watching those guys go down every other game kills me. they just cant seam to keep it together, i am begining to blame the trainers, the medical staff. think about it, the suns can revive grant hill, shaq, and steve nash, all from dieing careers, and the rockets had 5 players get surgery this season (yao, tracy, rafer, shane, and steve francis), every year the rockets have injuries, and they are getting worse, so is it just bad luck or is there a staffing problem? houston has some of the absolute best hospitals in the world and they cant get yao to stop breaking things?
May 12th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
Dave says:
Gee…everyone gets lit up by Kobe, my point on Harpring was that if Kobe really is hurt Harpring will work him hard and will be a tough/physical matchup.
Mister, yeah, probabaly right, sweep was a little much….but the point was that just like someone wrote earlier “if the Lakers would’ve hit a couple of shots, they would’ve gone home up 3-1″ that the Jazz were in the same boat. Frankly these teams match-up very evenly and the Jazz haven’t really played an all-around solid game yet.
NBA is always a tough bet unless you know someone.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
Mister Sun says:
right, those teams have nearly been on par up to this point, we will hopefully see a game 7, seems likely right now. but the lakers have to be very careful in game 5. very important point should be kobes health.

Lady Luck says:
I guess Kobe’s not allowed to be injured. He was still trying to contribute to his team…which he was, but he took a few bad shots, especially down the stretch. However, if he hadn’t been out there would be people saying he mailed it in? Had they got the win with him playing throught the obvious pain he was in (and don’t act like he was faking for the entire game. It was clear he was slow and couldn’t explode or jump well, yet he still was able to get to the rim through the Jazz Defense) then everyone would have been calling him a warrior for staying out there to battle with his team. Either way there would be criticism. I think the Jazz won a tough game with bad officiating on both ends of the court. The series is 2-2 and no one has won on the road. Hopefully Kobe and Deron can get some rest for their injuries and be ready for Game 5. Should be a good one.

Walton
Posey

Right side only? Hahaha.
You taking Michael Finley over James Posey? Posey gives you boards and perimeter defense; in addition to long range shots.
You taking Luke Walton over Matt Harpring? After pretty Luke got swatted yesterday, I don’t think so.
And your also selecting Rasheed Wallace over LeBron James.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:48 pm

Ye Myrie I just didn’t pick a side I did look at ever name.
Finley more of a threat than Posey to me and just as good if not bettr long range. This one was hard so I could flip there.
I don’t like Matt 1. and also Luke is smarter and offensively can give more to me than Luke.
Rasheed over Bron because outside of simply driving to the whole. Sheed has a better outside game along with a better jumper and seemingly more post moves.
Only thing is desire and motivation when it comes to Sheed.
Yea that right side is way better though lol.

paul takes more shots per game than parker and the scoring is about the same
besides is u can shoot 50% u can take alot of shots

Ian ummm at some point and time did I piss in your cereal or something?
4 times you take it upon yourself to address me over a list? LOL It’s funny because I typed that and moved on, you must really dislike it though.
Anyway
1. I think Derek will do ok against Parker, granted Parker is very fast, but I would say because of Derek’s size and smarts he should be aight. I mean regardless of who you put on Parker he gone get his but I think Derek can at least hinder and slow dude down.
2. I like Deron better. With that one it’s probably more personal preference than anything cause I like dude’s swagger and style. Still I don’t understand why me picking him over Parker is a joke. Dude is doing very well in the playoffs. Yea I still would take Fisher because he has experience and he also has been a very important part to the Lakers success thus far and in times past.
3. Rasheed over LeBron because Rasheed when focus has more to his game than LeBron. A lot with LeBron has to do with his size and driving to the hole a lot. Don’t get me wrong he is outstanding. I just like a focused Sheed better.
Duncan and KG are always a draw argument outside of rings to me. I like the heart and tentacity KG plays with so that is the only reason for the nod there.
4. I really hope the only reason you putting it like KG is not a winner is because he doesnt’ have rings. Otherwise KG has won a lot.
LOL @ by my logic I am a hater. Naw pimpin I like Parker I just like others more. No hate involved.

Deron is not prove but he is very good. To me he plays both sides of the ball better than TP.
Not every pg I like has to have experience that is just a plus for Fisher. Sure Parker has it, but he just ain’t a favorite of mine in regards to top 5 for playoffs right now.
I can’t argue the TD and Garnett thing, cause to me it’s the same. I don’t see where KG can’t be as clutch as TD with what TD has had. Thus far KG has been pretty decent down the stretch.
What’s the prob???

sorry gee but i got to go with parker over fisher or d will, parker and fish wash on the “experience” factor, fish is slowing, parker is to fast and will slice him up all game (remember parker sliced him up in games 1-2 of the 04 series but youth killed in in the rest of the games)
then parker on d-will, well parker would not be guarding him and then brewer and deron cant keep up with him no mater how hard they try.
as for kg over td? thats NUTS, kg is a good all around player, and the numbers/skills are a wash. now ask yourself this, who would you rather have take the last shot, down by 1 point with 4 seconds left? duncan or garnett? duncan every day! garnett would most likely just try to pass the ball off anyway so it would not mater. duncan is and always has been a clutch player who wants to win no mater what, garnett on the other hand, just wants to win.

KG is clutch he scores when he shoots in crunchtime.
Problem is he’s so emotional that he rushes late in games and gets wound up 2 tight. When he relaxes and calms down he can go at the best.
Sheed is really one of the most talented dudes that league has seen. He does get out of focus but only on O, his D is solid.

clutch is couple of mns before gm ends and u need big PLAYS from your superstar duncan ALWAYS does it
and comon kg and duncan isn a debate
May 12th, 2008 at 2:52 pm

i still think kg is better because of his great arsenal of post moves whereas duncan just lives of his outside shot, athleticism and power
May 12th, 2008 at 2:53 pm

gee, fair enough
mr sun, yes duncan wants it more then kg, AND duncan has proven it. i mean really, kg has had some good teams, but where has he taken them? what is the saying always a bridesmaid never a bride? kg is the new malone, great player cant get over the hump.
see people confuse great energy and passion for desire, and they confuse the lack of visible emotion for lack of desire. duncan is one of the proven most competative players around ever, he shows in what he does and how he takes things to heart so to speak and while he doesnt scream or yell or jump up and down or pop his jersey or pull it over and point to where he THINKS HIS HEART IS, he has more heart, and more drive then 99% of all the players in the game today.
garnett doesnt want the ball in the closing minutes of the ggame (generally) he naver has, guys like kobe, duncan, manu, labron, dwade, cp3, those are the guys who want the challenge, they want to finish the game, they want to win! wanting to win in your head and your heart is great but wanting to win in your actions is a total step above that!

ok mr sun, you have no idea what you are talking about, duncan lives on an outside shot? athleticism? i mean really? duncan is, as his nickname states, one of the most fundamentaly sound players EVER. this includes outside shots, post moves, power moves, finess moves. garnett if anything is more of an outside shooter.
but then what was i thinking, mr sun is the same guy who said the same thing about amare being the better “post move” player over duncan. the same guy who said amare is more fundamentaly sound then duncan, the same guy who said the suns would comeback from being down 0-3.
i rest my case

Mister Sun says:
your arguments for garnett not wanting to win is just nonsense, allen iverson hasn’t won a lot, does that mean he does’t want to win also?
btw, of course duncan is the athletic bruiser, look how he pushed amare into the lane, garnett is the one overcoming average athleticism with skills, you should know better

Mister Sun Duncan isn’t really athletic like you making him out to be.He plays on all skills. And everybody wants to win but the same people always get the most amount of chips every era,the BEST ONES.So it dont matter how great you are.The greatest players are good for more than one chip.Duncan,Shaq,Kobe in the conversation, but if he gets another chip critics are silenced.MJ,Keem took the best player of the MJ in his prime era because he took both when Mike fell back.Zeke got his 2.Magic took his 5 with Bird getting his 3.No matter what those dudes the ones since the 80’s.Thats what it is until somebody else steps up to the plate.

Mister Sun just likes to get a rise out of folks.
Of course Duncan is not oriented as “athletic” but rather as “skilled”. That’s why his prime will be extended moreso probably than people like LeBron, Dwyane Wade, Dwight Howard, Amare Stoudemire, etc. who will have to figure out ways to compensate (with skill) when their athleticism erodes away.
That’s why Sam Cassell can still play, his game is centered on skills like mid-range shooting and changing speeds, and just being fearless and clutch.
That’s why he Timmy is called “The Big Fundamental”. And he will have a longer-lasting era of domination thanks to the fact he does not rely on his “athleticism”. He is one of the all-time greats who will be very effective even after his “prime” years have passed. The real question is who will he pass the torch to?
R.C. Buford thinks that guy may be Ian Mahinmi, a guy who led The Austin Toros to the D-League Finals this season and will be rejoining the Spurs roster next season.

SAS, i just dont know about ian, he seams to be more of a nice complementary player then a headliner. same for tiago splitter who will be joining next season too.
i think duncan is going to hand over the team to parker to be honest, which i dont like unless they can get ian to really step his game up big time in the next 3 yrs. if ian can make it to being a good PF then the spurs have some good years, i just dont think parker and ian coule lead the spurs to a title.
the huge bonus with ian is he is like only 20 yrs old and is a smaller “d howard” type player. he can grow his game for sure.

Dave says:
The biggest difference between Duncan and other players of his size is that he creates more shots because he uses the glass so well, better than anyone in the league.
Kids don’t have big enough backboards in their school yards and at home and never learn to use glass like they should.

Way off topic, I remembered ONE nickname that uses the first-last name combo that actually does sound decent…Mo-Pete. That one ain’t too bad. Not great but hey, it’s an exception to the rule that they are generally lame as hell.
