The Return of the McMonster

He’s automatic from eighteen-feet and a terror on the glass. He went for 21 points and 16 rebounds last night, absolutely beasting the Celtics front line. Sure McDyess doesn’t have the unbelievable athleticism that gave the Knicks reason to ship half of their future to Denver to have him sit on the bench. But he’s older, wiser, and playing as if every game is his last. Last night, he paced Detroit’s early lead and kept his foot on the gas.

“There’s only so many opportunities that we’re going to have,” McDyess said. “Opportunities are definitely getting limited. Next year’s going to be hard, and the year after that’s going to be harder. So we have to leave everything out on the floor. That’s basically what I’ve told them.”

McDyess seized the reins during Game 4 of the Pistons/76ers series, when he “stormed into halftime and let his teammates know they couldn’t let that game slip away,” according to the Detroit Free Press. The Pistons came out of the break raring to go, outscoring Philly 57-38 in the second half en route to a 93-84 win.

And now, with Chauncey Billups still out of sync, McDyess assumed the role as the Pistons’ floor leader last night against the Celtics. He made huge shots yesterday to end Celtics’ runs, and provided a lift throughout the game.

“He’s been so aggressive and so effective,” Billups said. “We feed off his energy out there. I feed off his energy. He plays every game like it’s his last game.”

Great move changing the title. This one’s much better.

Just a thought, but just like David West, this guy can and will make open jumpers, so maybe we might want to actually fuckin cover him

  2. Myrie says:

So underrated for so long. Antonio McDyess in 1997 was one of the illest PFs in the league; in the top 3 after Shawn Kemp and Karl Malone.

    hahahha…
    just like shareef abduir-rahim……only better!

  4. djKianoosh says:

yeah celts fan, it was like they actually wanted to leave him open for those jumpers the way they were playing D.

maybe they were too focused on Rip running around in circles? whatever it was, it wasn’t good D.

let’s see an adjustment Doc Rivers!

I’m happy for Antonio..glad he’s getting shine again! We went to high school together(I was a freshmen when he was a senior: he was putting up like 30pts 15rebounds and 5 blocks by the way) He’s always been a good dude. If my LakeShow doesn’t get a ring I hope “Biddy” aka “Dice” gets his first chip!
