Is Baron Bound for the Big Apple?
According to Newday’s Alan Hahn, Baron Davis has “made inquiries into the interest of certain teams around the League, including the Knicks.”
Davis could opt out of the $17.18 million on his player option in ‘08-09, but many people believe that he won’t match that number in the open market. Though the Knicks are notorious overspenders, Donnie Walsh has made rumblings of his plan to be under the salary cap by 2010. That’ll be challenging enough with Eddy Curry and Zach Randolph making over $11 and $17 million respectively in the ‘10-11 season.
But Baron isn’t the only Warrior who seems interested by the Knicks’ impending run-and-gun system and their padded wallet. According to a League source, Monta Ellis “definitely has eyes for Mike D’Antoni’s uptempo style.”
However, the Knicks could only send a mid-level exception offer sheet to Ellis because of their woefully over-budgeted roster. The only way around that would be through a sign-and-trade, but who could the Knicks offer to pry Monta from Donnie Nelson? Does a package involving David Lee and his ability to run the floor even make this a conversation between Donnie Walsh and Chris Mullin? Probably not.

that’s it for Golden State’s run. Nelson will never get a decent big man since he rarely uses and doesn’t like coaching them.

If Donnie Walsh can pull that off, he’d be a genius.

I agree with daily boy….Baron would fit nicely in Cleveland. I don’t think there are many more “run n gun” seasons Baron’s legs have left.

Baron Davis to NY is not a good fit for either squad. If there is a team that could use Diddy; it’ll be Philly.
They need a consistent scorer and some firepower. A backcourt of Andre Miller and Baron Davis could do damage and they’d be soooo underrated.
NY isn’t the move for Baron….

New York would be nice for him… Having Baron back on the east coast would do great things for his career. All Star nod for sure.
…but I think the same thing – Bron and Baron would be SICK.

Monta and Baron are a great back court pair. And when S Jack is playing well the Warriors are a really good team. The problem is Don Nelson…start there!

good point Marcus.
I don’t think they will be like AI and Melo because those two are one on one, purely offensive players. I think Baron is a nice passer and so is Lebron. I think there are enough shots for everyone (like AI and Melo). But I think Baron could absorb some of the pressure off of Lebron but still be relieved of trying to be the first option. Lebron is much more of a passer than Melo, so I think the ball would move better.
I still think Andre Miller would be a better fit in Cleveland if they could get a SG that could actually shoot.

baron going to the east will do great things fir his career? wtf? so he can get on the frikkn allstar team? what kind of crap is that? going to the warriors was the best thing that could happen for baron so far in his career. who cares about the damn all star team. baron going to NY would be better than him pairing up with bron in my opinion. baron and nate robinson would be quite a backcourt.
philly seems like itd be a good fit too, but iggy and baron would be better than miller and baron.

BlazeMcHerbs says:
Davis in Cleveland makes way more sens. It enables the Cavs to be able to use James as a finisher from time to time, imagine Z pulling down a rebound and outletting to Davis for a fastbreak, with Davis crossing the free throw line and dishing to James, forget the alley-oop, just a cutting drive is next to imposible to contain.
Besides that once a game moment that could arise, both Davis and James are good passers and it doesn’t hurt Lebron to have a proven big game player on his squad unlike Hughes.
Davis should take a pay cut and step into the world of Championship Contention

what happened to the man who REJECTED pat ewing? If nate was more bogues and less webb, maybe he can get a starting job.
As for BD, his value will NEVER be higher, this being the only season in 6 years that he didn’t have major time off for an injury. All percentage categories near career highs, as well as points stls rebs, and he’s pushing 30. I’d take Kevin Martin + Ron Artest for him.

Baron’s going to the NY, and so will LeBron, Melo, and Wade. It’s gonna be so awesome. The best players in the world are all going to the Knicks solely because they are the Knicks.
Starting five – Baron, Wade, LeBron, Melo, Dwight Howard (definitely going to the Knicks), and then you gotta figure Chris Paul will also sign with the Knicks once his contract is up, along with David West. They’ll just come off the bench along with Brandon Roy, Carlos Boozer, and Amare Stoudemire, so it won’t really matter.
Unfortunately, they’ll have to turn down Dirk, Tony Parker, Bosh, Yao, and Kevin Durant when they all decide they want to play for the Knicks.. It’s gonna be tough to just say no, but they’re just gonna have to many great players in the coming years.

Cammy Z says:
If what they say about Diddy’s legs are true, Golden State should try to move him to get a big man while he still has a lot of value. It’s WAY more important to keep Monta b/c of his upside and age. And with the team they have now, with no real inside presence, there’s no guarantee they’ll even make the playoffs, let alone compete for a title.
