Celtics 88, Pistons 79: Instant Analysis

Why the Celtics won: The supporting cast. As good as Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett played, the difference was that guys like Leon Powe, Kendrick Perkins, Rajon Rondo and the rest stepped up and hit shots when the two stars gave the ball up. When the C’s have a handful of guys making shots, they’re even tougher to guard.

Why the Pistons lost: The stars. Chauncey Billups and Rasheed Wallace struggled, shooting a combined 6-for-18 from the field. Chauncey’s clearly not playing at 100 percent and ‘Sheed was getting all he could handle from KG.

Key numbers: Kevin Garnett (26 pts, 9 rebs); Paul Pierce (22 pts); Antonio McDyess (14 pts, 11 rebs); Assists (BOS 27, DET 15);

Detroit has to stop the penetration by pierce who created so much fpr his team. tay can’t let him drive that easy

  2. Tim says:

and Billups needs to be aggressive…if he’s not 100%, he shouldn’t of said he was.

How can a third year mediocrity in Rondo outclass a Finals MVP?

Pistons still have a chance to salvage this series in Game 2. Pierce played out of his mind.

  3. hotdog says:

billups is hurt. if they can they should try to play with a small line up and move chauncey tohe 2 guard sport and not be the main ballhandler. he can still be shooter or a decoy form outside

  4. bill says:

Celts expected to win 1st 2 games, this series gets interesting games 3 and 4 :)

  5. Flying_Dutchman says:

    @ Tim

Of COURSE Billups would say his 100% otherwise Boston would’ve run every play against him.

  6. tealish says:

No, Flying_Dutch. Billups should have said his hammy still hurted and it’s tough for him to move laterally or to establish a firm stance on D in the post. How can that backfire?

  7. word says:

brap brap go Celtics, I don’t give a rats ass if they don’t win a road game, as long as they win undefeated at home, they can still get rings (but seriously I think they need to win a road game just for the sake of being able to)

  8. YOUNGFED says:

Celtics are the worst title contender in History

  9. Desrat says:

Why all the hate for the Cs? Those guys deserve a chip, it is rare a bunch of superstars get together and sacrafice personal gain for a chance at the chip.
@2 Maybe Rondo ain’t a “third year mediocrity ” after all. Rather have him then a lot of other points out there.

  10. doc says:

    They dont deserve shit.
