Celtics 89, Pistons 81: Instant Analysis

Why the Celtics won: The role players. Rajon Rondo, James Posey and Kendrick Perkins came up with crucial buckets, steals, rebounds and whatever else the C’s needed during its big run to take the lead in the fourth quarter and as they maintained the lead in crunch-time. Paul Pierce was the night’s big scorer, but the complimentary guys did their jobs when it mattered most.

Why the Pistons lost: The front line. Rasheed Wallace (2-for-12 FG’s), Tayshaun Prince (3-for-10) and Antonio McDyess (6 pts) were largely ineffective, offsetting the efforts of Rip Hamilton and Chauncey Billups. Detroit’s best big man was Jason Maxiell, and he only played 16 minutes.

Key numbers: Paul Pierce (27 pts, 8 rebs); Chauncey Billups (29 pts).

Damn, Rasheed played like a bitch tonight. Granted he was in foul trouble, but he still didn’t even look like he was tryin when he was in the game. He is the reason they lost this series and last year as well. Dude is talente, but he dissapears and is a cancer to the team. they gotta trade him if they ever wanna win another chip.

instant memory: the freshly defeated Pistons storming off the court, Jarvis Hayes standing with his hand out for a high five and nobody even looking in his general direction as they went past.

i’m sure there are about 10 other teams that would love to have sheed.

anyway, that sound you just heard is david stern blowing a load. he can’t stand himself (in the TO sense) right about now.

i loved Paul Pierce’s reaction after the game. i can’t believe i’m saying this as a sixer fan, but i want to see him win it now. it’s better than Kobe and LA winning it at least. :)

unfortunately i think doc rivers might get severely outcoached. good luck KG, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen and the role players. remember, Kobe is mortal. he really is.

Sheed and Flip need to go….

I’m tired of Sheeds get that fn’ camera outta my face in crucial games. and Flips inability to do anything for his team to keep a lead…How do you go from up 10 to down 5 in 3 minutes of gametime?

If Sheed is still on the team next year, I’m not gonna cheer anymore…so sick of his inability to play great against other greats…or mediocore players for that matter.

    Poor McDyess….

Words can’t express how frustrated and abused I feel by this level of mediocrity from the Pistons…I guess Boston is the better team…At least I won’t have to deal with the announcers blowing the other teams balls all night long, cause I’m not watching these Finals. Lakers in 6.

and i forgot…James Posey is a bitch…i wish him the worst.

haha.. posey had a great steal at the end and perkins with a massive block. role players stepped up. but paul pierce really was the one that took over.

    kobe vs paul. nice.

Avery Johnson coaching the Pistons? Sounds good to me.

lol at Tim. Damn dude, you are pissed. You’re really not gonna watch the finals tho? And y do u hate posey so much?

  • Tim

It was glad to see that when Paul Pierce flopped 7 times tonight he never got the call…since that’s all he does.

  • Lady Luck

Avery in Detroit sounds nice. I can see that happening.

Can’t believe the Pistons lost the lead so late in the game. Then again, the Pistons and the Spurs have that in common.

    Lakers in 6.

I thought that the Pistons had enough to beat the Celtics this series. Neither team can beat LA in a series. They disappear for long stretches. PJ will outcoach Doc.
    Fisher vs. Rondo
    Odom vs Garnett
    Pau vs. Perkins
    Radmonovich vs. Pierce
    Kobe vs Ray

I hate Posey because he acts arrogant popping his jersey and I just find his ego to be so incredibly annoying. He’s just irritating and makes me mad…he could drop off the face of the NBA and I would be a much happier person.

And I’m not gonna watch the Finals, because I can’t stand seeing someone other than the Pistons win it…it makes me so sick to my stomach. Plus the media suckfest LA/Boston is gonna have will make my ears hurt…I had enough hearing about the Boston resurgence this series…especially since every comment was about how good Boston is…

how could anyone watch the Finals if their team isn’t there? I can’t. I don’t care what’s good for basketball, the best thing for me is my team winning it all…now I have to wait another year…

but for coversation…what do you think the Pistons do now that Stuckey has started tearing it up? Do they move someone…

I love Prince too, but they should trade him and get someone who doesn’t fade in the playoffs every year.

  • Tim

yes, Avery in Detroit would be good because he wouldn’t let up on his players like Flip does and lets them do whatever they hell they want.

  • Karel

Wallace scored just four points on 2-of-12 shooting and had three turnovers in what might’ve been his last game as a Piston

seriously tho, how many years in a row will Rasheed have a meltdown in the Conf Finals before the Pistons realize that he is killin thier team? Ship him off for a decent center and let Maxiel play the 4
