Miami’s Plan: Get Derrick Rose, Land a Free Agent Power Foward
Photo. Jeffery SalterThat appears to be the way Pat Riley is approaching the next two NBA seasons for his Miami Heat. By all accounts, assuming Miami gets the No. 1 pick, he seems to like the idea of drafting Derrick Rose ahead of Michael Beasley. Common sense would say then that he’d need to get Rose and Dwyane Wade a dominant inside presence to balance out their offense.
The best free fit of this summer’s free agent class would be Elton Brand, who already tried to sign with the Heat once in the past. But if that doesn’t work out? Carlos Boozer would be a solid Plan B next summer (Booze has a place in Miami).

If Riles can pull off the the Rose/Brand double he will be the luckiest man in the NBA….and Lebron James will walk-out on the Cavs.
Brand coming to South Beach is the most important part of this plan. I can see Brand going for it. He has been dicked around for his entire career and deserves to be on a winning team.
Wade can play PG if they don’t get Rose. If they can trade their pick (assuming they don’t get Rose) for a solid SG that lineup us still very good – and will contend for a title again.

Boozer already lives in Miami in the off-season.
After seeing him play in the playoffs, I wouldn’t want him on my team…..wait he is on my team! Utah would be playing game 7 tonight if Boozer would have showed up for more than one game in the series.

i second that post 8, i dont get why everyone is busting on boozer so much now…yeah true..he had a bad post season. but the guy is a beast. he was steam rolling yao and the rockets last year and to some was a mvp candidate, no? and during the regular season this year avged 20-10. whats not to like? he can finish w/ both hands too.

Most people gone go off of what they last saw, not what they saw before what they last saw lol. I ain’t saying it’s right but it’s just how most things go. Booz is a good part for any squad, but he will have to alter his game now that most know to just put a long (taller), agile forward on him and his numbers drop for the most part.

Wade and Rose would work. I don’t think that is really in question. Game recognize game. They would run very well with one another – PLUS, drafting Rose means getting the Shawn Marion that they wanted. It means easy points for the Matrix while Beasley is competition. Rose is the best point available, and Miami needs a point badly.
@KoBeef – Yes, Wade CAN play PG and there are many times that he ends up bringing the ball down the court, but that’s not his position. Kobe can play the point, but he doesn’t. Pierce could play point… It doesn’t make sense to put Wade there by himself – esp when you can get Rose.
Brand would be SICK. There would be chemistry from the get-go, the only thing you would need to worry about is Matrix throwing another temper tantrum that he isn’t the dude. And who says that he’ll even stick around? What if the Knicks signed him up?
ALSO – just a thought, but what are the chances that the Heat also pick up Dorsey? Bringing in Rose and Dorsey would be a nice addition. I think he’ll be the next Ben Wallace and that could anchor their defense for a minute. Just a thought…

Brand is legit no question, don’t know the ages of the two but you can’t go wrong either way.

I don’t agree that they need a new power forward cuz they already have a quality banger in Haslem. What they really need is a shot-blocking/rebounding center like Camby. And no, Zo’ ain’t gonna cut it. If they can trot out Rose, Wade, Marion, Haslem, and Camby, then that’s the most talented starting line-up in the East. Period.

@Logan : I’m completely with you on Dorsey, but after the relative successes of Paul Milsap, Maxiell, Landry in the past few drafts, I don’t see him sneaking into the 2nd round or free agency. In fact, I think that bruising (though undersized) Power Forwards may end up being the new trendy pick.
I’d really like to know how Marion fits in with the Heat in the locker room and off the court before making that call. He might be worth trading more than anyone else if they could lock up an extension and trade him.

You draft Beasley cuz I see Miami killin themselves if he turns out to be as good as he’s gonna be.He destroyed all year long. Rose had a great tourny, but there’s a LOTTA points comin out(Augustin, Chalmers, Lawson, Bayless, Mayo, Westbrook, Weaver, etc) and someone’s gonna slip right to you in the 2nd round or else trade some dead weight like Ricky davis for a mid 1st rounder, but that’s my backup plan. Instead, you throw “too much” money at Calderon, just enough where the Raps won’t wanna match, then you draft Beasley and let Banks come along as a backup.
Calderon, Wade, Marion, Beasley, Blount
Shoot, even the Celts start Kendrick Perkins….the Heat can start Blount til a better option presents itself

the basis of this is getting the #1 or #2 draft lottery pick. If Miami get neither (which is still a possibility), then it all becomes moot. There are goood freshamn who are entering this draft (Derrick Rose, Michael Beasley, OJ Mayo, Eric Gordon, Kevin Love etc..), but the draft overall will be weak.
Miami needs to plan on getting the #4 pick. Possibly trade that pick to LA clips for Brand and then do a sign-n-trade of Shawn Marion for a point guard and shooter.

Why would Miami go for a PF approaching 30 (not to mentioned high-priced and coming off a major injury) and a rookie point guard? If they want to win now, the Brand signing makes sense, but otherwise, by the time Rose develops, Brand might be ineffective or a role player at best.
