going out on a limb here.. i bet they have a hard time getting free agents to come to their team for a few years.

BxBaller says:
Damn that sucks. This OK team will never have any luck, Bennett is such a dirtbag.
May 27th, 2008 at 10:44 am
Celts Fan says:
Jeffrey, sadly enough, Petro was a lottery pick so there’s no way he’s the lowest paid guy on the team…

SayItAintSo says:
Being a Seattlite, it get’s old hearing about how badly Bennett needs to be tea-bagged…seriously though, the guy is just straight up evil. I can’t believe Stern will allow so much history and tradition to be ripped away from a fairly large market (it’s for damn sure larger than OKC!) when he is all about expanding the league.
May 27th, 2008 at 11:15 am
Celts Fan says:
Keep the Sonics where they are. A much better idea would be to move the Clippers, or Grizzlies, or sad to say it, but the economically unstable Hornets (I know Stern said he’s committed to “Doing right by N.O., but that city really will struggle to support them and has bigger issues to worry about. What about doing right by a market that’s supported your product for FOUR DECADES?!? Needless to say, I don’t believe he’ll keep a team in a market that can’t support it over the long haul regardless of circumstance after this. What a shame, 5 years ago, I would’ve said he was one of hte best commissioners in any sport of all time, now he’s a sleazy sidekick to some redneck greaseball hijacking a team from a dedicated and supporting fanbase…)
May 27th, 2008 at 11:23 am
Celts Fan says:
and for the record, the lowest paid player on the team is Mickale Gelebale at just over $800,000, which is about $800,000 more than they paid me for the same contribution…

DaPro says:
LOL @ Celts Fan
Clay is foul as hell but Karma is a bitch
He’ll find out soon enough
May 27th, 2008 at 11:48 am
Kobeef says:
Clay is a hack, and a redneck.
He is way out of his league in the playground of billionaires that is the NBA.
I read somewhere that despite his title as “owner” the guy doesn’t have any money – so this move to OKC is as much about getting himself a good job as it is about the team. If the team stays in Seattle Clay loses his job.
I never understood why the NBA wanted to move the Sonics from a class-city like Seattle to hicks-ville.
May 27th, 2008 at 11:52 am
Celts Fan says:
Kobeef, there is apparently a ton of $$$ in Ok. City (oil money is BIG money nowadays) and the fans did alright supporting the Hornets, but it’s a pretty small city and they’re hijacking a team from a much bigger (and very supportive) market. It makes no sense at all that Stern would let this happen other than the fact he’s known Bennet for 20+ years.
May 27th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
Marcus says:
Seattle isnt that much bigger then Oklahoma City..maybe by 50k people. The market is bigger due to the metro area however. This may or may not be a factor however seeing as there isnt really an NBA team in the middle of the US. The whole situation is just as much the previous owners fault as it is Bennets. He knew the team would likely be moved before he sold and if he pretends that he didnt hes lying.

bsteezy3 says:
Wow…I’ll tell you, that guy Bennett is a jerk. A RICH jerk…
May 27th, 2008 at 5:22 pm

Still messed up. He wouldn’t do that in person though, smart to go through e-mail. Cowards are funny sometime.

doc says:
Hey its wrong and its right at the same time.He want his squad where he from.Same with Hov with the Nets.U cant tell me its some people in Jersey who aint pissed about that.
May 29th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Jack R says:
OKC population is nothing compared to Seattle. OKC has no population density whatsoever. Seattle has 10x the population density of OKC.
If you compare the metro area, Seattle wins again with 3x the people.
Seattle has far more money to buy expensive corporate luxury suites as well. The median income is double that of OKC, and it obviously has far more tech billionares and millionaires.
These things are obvious if you have ever been to both cities.
This thievery has NOTHING to do with population OBVIOUSLY.
SO. STOP. TROTTING. OUT. THAT. TIRED. EXPLANATION.
This IS about:
1) David Stern’s massive ego and anger at not having his toes suckled when he arrived in town demanding tax money.
2) David Stern’s desire to make an example out of Seattle for any future city not willing to have taxpayers fund most expensive arena in the world.
3) David Stern’s fear that Clayton Bennett will dish the dirt on him if he doesn’t get Clayton an NBA team. One hand washes the other.
May 29th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Jack R says:
And don’t get me started on the previous owner “should have known.” You ignorant person.
Haven’t you heard of the lawsuit Howard Schultz has filed because Bennett lied to his face and lied on paper in the side agreement to the sale, which stated he would make good faith efforts to keep the team in Seattle for at least one year?
