LeBron Dunks on KG’s Head; Boston Can’t Win on the Road

IMAGE DESCRIPTIONLeBron (photo. Mannion)

LeBron James has become pretty good at providing the immortal YouTube moment that also serves as the pivotal moment in a playoff series against the reigning Eastern Conference powerhouse. Last year ‘Bron unleashed THIS bit of cruelty on Rasheed Wallace’s dome on his way to the NBA Finals, then last night he did THIS to Kevin Garnett. It was the dagger and the exclamation point on Cleveland’s Game 4 win, tying up the series at two games apiece going back to Boston. Being guarded by Paul Pierce up top with about 1:45 to go and the Celtics staggering on the ropes, LeBron came off a Joe Smith pick (that Pierce didn’t fight through), eluded James Posey (bad job of hedging), then elevated as high as you’ve ever seen him elevate and hammered one down on Garnett, who didn’t try to take the charge or block the shot. The building understandably became unglued on the dunk, and Kevin Harlan even broke out his “With no regard for human life!!!” that we haven’t heard in a while … LeBron finished with 21 points, 13 dimes and 6 rebounds. While 7-for-20 shooting from the field wasn’t much of an improvement over his previous games in this series, he was aggressive right off the bat; all of his points in the first quarter came off of layups and free throws … So aggressive was LeBron, in fact, that he actually yelled at his mom one time. (Our moms would be preparing the belt ASAP if that had been us.) Did you see the play in the first half when LeBron was on a breakaway, Pierce wrapped him up and they went stumbling into the crowd? The lady who jumped up yelling at Pierce was none other than Gloria James. LeBron yelled at her to “Sit your ass down!” which he said he regretted afterwards, but added that Mom understood he was just fired up … All of the C’s struggled down the stretch, but Garnett (15 pts, 10 rebs) and Ray Allen (15 pts) both went scoreless in the fourth quarter. Going by most people’s T-Mac Meter, that means they either aren’t clutch or they have no heart, or both. The Cavs’ defense was on-point, but even when Boston had good looks they just couldn’t hit them. Then on the other end you had Anderson Varejao hitting tough shots in the clutch, from his ugly fading banker to his set-shot heave from 15 feet … Ever since we praised Sam Cassell for being the ideal sixth man and always being good for instant offense off the bench, he hasn’t scored a point. Sam went 0-for-11 from the field in the last two games, and yet Doc Rivers still had him on the floor in crunch time instead of Rajon Rondo (15 pts) … O.J. Mayo was in the crowd. No doubt by now you’ve seen or read about all the stuff coming out with the NCAA investigation of Mayo’s stint at USC. One website yesterday asked in a poll, “Who had the worst weekend?” and listed Mayo as an option. Really? After a little public embarrassment, O.J.’s not gonna lose anything from this whole deal; he’s still gonna be a Lottery pick and still gonna get paid no matter who’s representing him or what happens to the SC program. If anyone’s having sleepless nights it’s Tim Floyd, hoping this whole thing just goes away … The NBA announced it’s All-Defensive Teams. The first squad is Kobe Bryant, Bruce Bowen, Garnett, Tim Duncan and Marcus Camby. Second team is Chris Paul, Raja Bell, Shane Battier, Tayshaun Prince and Dwight Howard. Our biggest beef is with Bowen getting the first-team nod. We know that All-Defensive is kind of like NFL Pro Bowl offensive line spots — reputation means a lot — but was Bowen really better defensively this season than CP or Battier? Josh Smith also should have had a spot (probably Tayshaun’s). Chauncey Billups, Jason Kidd, ‘Sheed, Rondo, Deron Williams and J-Smoove just missed the cut in the voting … Two games tonight: Detroit/Orlando and New Orleans/San Antonio. A Pistons win and they, especially Chauncey, have a lot of time to rest up for whoever comes out of the Cavs/Celtics series. Meanwhile, this is an absolute must-win for the Hornets, even moreso than for the Spurs. If N.O. goes down 3-2 having to go back to San Antone, they’re done … We’re out like KG and Ray in the 4th …

  1. Supremeng says:

    gotta do it. FIRST!

  2. K Dizzle says:

Maybe the only team that lost at home is the only one with no chance at a chip these playoffs

  3. 94by50 says:

Forget Tim Floyd, what about the AD at USC, whoever the hell he is? He must be sweating buckets, between the Reggie Bush business and this.

    LeBron James is not normal.

Don’t any of the road teams want to win? We’re one Hedo Turkoglu miss short of the home teams sweeping the second round games so far.

  4. Desert Storm says:

From yesterday, showing the delusions of spurs fans:

“mr sun, yes duncan wants it more then kg, AND duncan has proven it. i mean really, kg has had some good teams, but where has he taken them? what is the saying always a bridesmaid never a bride? kg is the new malone, great player cant get over the hump.”

so apart from an over the hill spree and cassell back in 2004 and this season, someone please list all the other good teams” kg has played on

  5. djKianoosh says:

I think Bruce Bowen’s D on Peja this series proves he’s still first team defense material. Chris Paul sure gets steals, but he’s not a deadly specialist like Bowen. Paul’s game is obviously much much more well-rounded, but for 1st team defense, give it up to the specialists. CP gets enough love as is.. :)

95by50, no Lebron is not normal. that was vicious. but please, what the hell happened to that jump shot he supposedly learned over the summer with the olympic team? has he reverted to bad shooting form? lucky for the rest of the league he’s not consistent with it…

  6. Wonder Boy says:

I’m ready for an Eastern Conference Finals Rematch!!!!!

    All hail the King!!!!!

  7. the_don_mega says:

    @ djKianoosh…

“Chris Paul sure gets steals, but he’s not a deadly specialist like Bowen.”

right on the money… i think too many people are jumpin up on the cp3 wagon too much, he’s a great point guad for sure… and sure, he does get steals… but he’s not a lockdown defender ala jason kidd in his prime… ask tony parker and he’s sure gonna agree… hell, devin harris is a much better defender than paul…

  8. B says:

Josh Smith being left off the all-D team is a travesty.

  10. marcus says:

yeah, j-smoove got robbed in broad daylight… if his blocks and swipes aint getting him at least a 2nd team all D, then i dunno what those people need to impress them…

  11. Mister Sun says:

dunk on garnett? is it now always a dunk over somebody if he stands near the basket? that was like a clear and free path, over garnett? please…

  12. marcus says:

uhm, a clear path over garnett?

didnt garnett actually shove him with two arms in his upper body? how clear of a path is that?

  13. marcus says:

    word!

  14. the_don_mega says:

    @ Mister Sun…

    i think its a case of man-love for KG…hahahahaha

  15. Borgs says:

What would happen if some random came on to scuffle with the players like Gloria James did? Life ban from the arena concerned is what would happen. I’m calling for a life ban for LeBron’s mum.

  16. Borgs says:

Deron Williams is a far better defender than Chris Paul, but count how many lunatics come out of the woodwork to dispute that, typically arguing that a high volume of steals always equals great D.

  17. bill says:

    Boston like the drama

Game 7 win again for the celtics. Lebron scores 40 game 6 then shutdown for game 7.

Hornets win this game then lose in SA, game 7 comes down to a Peja performance. Can he restore clutch after his Kings days???

My heart says yes but my head cannot bet against san antonio.

Sa v Lakers (but COME ON HORNETS!!!)

  18. Mister Sun says:

ok, kg shoved him a little bit, but dunk ON garnett?if he would’ve jumped ok, but like that?no
that dunk by lebron on timmy or rasheed was a whole different story

  19. Mister Sun says:

the_don_mega: why do you have problems with gays? i stand right behind my feelings

  20. JOB33 says:

*insert joke about standing right behind mr sun*
and damn it feels good to actually see some competetive playoffs. at this point who knows who’s gonna be in the finals

  21. YOUNGFED says:

“We know that All-Defensive is kind of like NFL Pro Bowl offensive line spots — reputation means a lot — but was Bowen really better defensively this season than CP or Battier? Josh Smith also should have had a spot (probably Tayshaun’s). ”

WTF DIME!!! Yall need to stop with the Piston Hatin’. Are you really saying that Bowen or Battier are better defenders than the crown Prince. SMH

  22. YOUNGFED says:

    @JOB33
Well we know the Pistons will be in the Finals

  23. the_don_mega says:

    @Mister Sun…

    get loose…
    nice ont there @JOB33…
    LMAO…

  24. Hollowhustla says:

CP3 has mad skills and no doubt one of (if not the best) PG in the L, but c’mon All Defense. The love for that cat is deserved but definitely not for that side of the court. Iverson led the L in steals a few times and put up crazy numbers and took his team to a ’ship, but STILL is not known as a defender. The L needs to stop with the public affection for certain players. But then again, they trying to get loot too.

  25. flo_rida evans says:

Hold on now,KG was actually touching him while he was in the air.Matter fact if KG was any further under the basket, the ball would have drilled him on the head, mashing him down like a enemy in Super Mario World…Dinih ninih ninih.

  26. sans says:

Smoove got robbed for sure…it’s okay though…he’s about to get seriously paid. And the dunk on KG was a dunk on KG because KG put a serious, intentional shove at the end of a dunk. The reason that the refs didn’t call it is that it didn’t stop Gift from having us have this conversation about the vicious exclamation that Bron through on top of Ticket’s head, despite the bs antics.

If Baron’s done, line him up in wine-n-gold. Nellie ain’t gonna coach again, anyway.

  27. rangerjohn says:

ok 1st bowen and battier are pretty much a wash defensively, but bowen is like 43 yrs old so they went with the “experience” and not the eager youth (insert spurs hornets referance)

as for cp3, he is not a good defender, he is just quick, that is how he lead the league in steals. he is not a good on the ball defender, and lets his bigs slow someone down long enough for him to get the steal or he jumps the passing lane.

didnt agent zero lead the league (or almost) in steals? and i dont think anybody accuses him of being a good defender.

i agree josh smith should have made at least the 2nd team.

  28. FK in T-Oh says:

See the picture in #5 and tell me this dunk wasn’t over KG:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/dailydime?page=dime-080513

I didn’t know the King loaned out his crown….

  29. the_don_mega says:

    @Hollowhustla…

damn right! this is just a big publicity stunt… j-smoove was robbed… cp3 is as good or even beter than steve nash with the rock…but hey, the cat is as bad as nash on on-ball d… he gets steals… but like Hollowhustla smacked, A.I. has done it before, and still has no luv as a defender… i bet royal ivey is a better defender than cp3…

  30. rangerjohn says:

    @ post 4
last i checked kg had the best record in the league while in minny, he made it to a conf finals, while his teamsa maynot have had a ton of allstars, neither have many others. look at the spurs, manu 1 time, parker 1 time, anyone else? um no,

the wolves had 50+ wins from 1999-00 to 03-04 except 1 season they where 47 wins. this included a 58 win season for the best record in the west.

always a bridesmaid never a bride

  31. IGP says:

I think Howard should be first team and Camby second team. And I’m shocked that Josh Smith got left off wtf man. I don’t even know what to say about the Celtics, they just don’t even really look like a playoff team on the road.

  32. doc says:

Boston are frauds.KG sure showed me that clutch gene he got last night too.Good for him he go back to beantown.

  33. IrvDizzle says:

I think that Bruce Bowen is a cheap, dirty, b*st*rd, he doesn’t play defense, he grabs and he clutches. He should be kicked out of the league

    http://www.slamdumb.com/c8.php

  34. GEE...I once got busy in a Burger King bathroom! says:

    Time to make the donuts!

KG got dunked on straight up! It may not have been a poster type with both cats in the air. It may not have been a Kyle Korver looking scurred. By contact and KG being there…he got dunked on.

Didn’t Rondo take more shots than anyone? That is never a good look for a squad when that is happening.

Boston is honestly looking like this is their first playoff run ever. Shouldn’t be, shouldn’t be.
Still it’s on Cleveland to get on in Boston and I don’t see that happening.

Although if Boston didn’t have home court ATL prolly would have took them out 1st round.

Is Boston possibly going to go 7 each series all the way to rings? Cause right now I don’t see no one winning on their floor but I don’t see them winning on no one elses if they can’t beat the lowly Cavs.

I said it yesterday that Bowen and Shane or a wash so either or there on the defensive squad. I can live with CP being right where he is.

Oh yea and I would told my mom “Sit down” not “Sit yo A** down” lol. I can understand dude doing that cause you don’t want yo mama caught up in that. If she says something wrong and KG comes back at her or something, then of course you got defend and possibly fight.

Good look by LeBron but that was funnnnny. First I thought ol girl was a fan. I was thinking dang why LeBron going off on a fan like that…then to find out it was ….His momma. Cracking up!

Hope he got her something nice for Mother’s Day.

  35. Chuck........I Love this game says:

I had school last night so unfortunately I didn’t get to see the game, therefore I won’t comment on the game, seeing as I would be commenting out of ignorance. I’m tired of all of the see-saw back and forth no one can win a road game crap though. I think the refs are having too much of an influence over the outcome of these games.
    Josh smith did get robbed.
    @rangerjohn
Doesn’t matter if he led the league in steals because he’s quick. he still led the league and should have been put on the 2nd team, Marcus Camby isn’t a good on the ball defender and he still was put on the list. He blocks a lot of shots because he’s long, so do we keep him off. That doesn’t make any sense. Bowen didn’t make enough of an impact this year to be put on the list, but opinions are like a*s holes,

Boston is really suprising me with these battles their going through. First Atlanta then Cleveland. Lebron is shooting like crap and this team should have been dispatched by now with this squad Boston has, but oh well.

  36. rangerjohn says:

here you go for all the bowen haters

man i thought bruce was the only one doing this stuff and should be kicked out of the league.

    oh and one last thing
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZNwSC_6H90&feature=related
chris paul with a cheap shot on bruce, and then over acts (read flops) to get bowen suspended

  37. djKianoosh says:

first chris paul wants to go and tattle tell on bruce to stu jackson, and then lebron goes and yells at his own mom… damn ya’ll, grow up! :) LOL

  38. rangerjohn says:

    @ chuck
i only replyed about paul because someone said he should have been on the 1st team over bowen or shane, NO WAY does he get on there over those 2, second team fine i am not argueing that but he is not as good a defender as bruce or shane, not even close.

camby got on it because he lead the league in blocks, and was 2nd in rebounds.

i say drop prince and put josh smith on the 2nd team, camby and d howard are a wash on defense also, put camby up there on the 1st team because he was the defensive player of the year last year and he has similar numbers to last year.

  39. Celts Fan says:

I give up. Rondo’s gunning, we take terrible shots when it’s close, we can’t close teams out, we’re not playing with any energy. Seems like the ‘06 UConn team that was a lock on paper, then they started playing the tournament…
    SHIT!

  40. Chuck........I Love this game says:

    @rangerjohn

I don’t know why you hate Chris Paul so much? You have a strong dislike for dude. You have to appreciate EVERY player in the league for their unique talents whether it be Tony Parker, or Chris Paul. I like Bruce Bowen because he’s tough, he’s a team player, he hits open shots and helps spread the defense, and he’s a heady player, I don’t appreciate all the little sly stuff he does sometimes, but hey, I’m not going to sh*t on em every 3 seconds and be a hater, Chris Paul, he penetrates extremely well, is an excellent off the ball defender, easily starts transition plays, I mean, he’s a pure point and every thing you would want in a point, especially for his team, and the same for Tony Parker, who was the MVP of the finals, we can’t take away anything from any of those players. You be sh*tten on Paul though, and dude is nice, I know you want to defend the spurs, and you have an allegiance to that team, but when you talk about Paul I can feel the dislike through the screen, like dude sucks or something. LMAO!!!

  41. Kudabeen says:

    “So agressive was Lebron”

LOL…Didn’t know Yoda was a Hoop-Head…Bron did bang on KG with force though.

I have to say I’m extremely disappointed in Boston’s guys. They ‘may’ be putting out most of their energy on defense, which ‘may’ be taken away from their offense, but when you let Bron punch one on your head and give up uncontested threes in the 4th then you really have no legs to stand on. There are no excuses. Kenny Smith hit it on the head, when he said that Boston hasn’t proved to have that ‘guy’ who can take over. KG is that dude, but I thought he of all people would be rallying the troops, but they all looked ‘Shook’, even Sam!

    Lebron > Pierce + Ray + KG = Crazy!

    Oh yeah:

    @Job33
    Funny as hell…great response…LMAO

  42. GayforRudy says:

    Dime,

I assume Boston is the “reigning” Eastern Conference powerhouse because they had the best regular season record?

Does that mean that Dallas was last years “reigning” Western Conference powerhouse?

How can a team be the “reigning” powerhouse when they haven’t won spit?

  43. rangerjohn says:

    @ chuck
i do dislike paul, never said he could not play, never said he sux, i just dont like how people are on his nutsack, like he can do no wrong. people over look all the “bullshit” he pulls because of where he plays, how he plays and the fact that he is a “nice guy”

people dislike bowen, yet he is one of the most community active people in all of the nba, he doesnt get credit because SA isnt LA or NYC, or NO. people take what he does on the court and i bet you half of the people, no 3/4 of the people who post here could not tell one thing he does for his community with out watching a damn NBA cares comercial. chris paul is just as dirty as half the people in the league and more then the other half, but he is the golden boy and can do no wrong. i on the other hand, see through that bs and think people should judge these guys for everything they do, on the court, off the court, good or bad. nobody talks about bruce shooting 42% from three, or even at 36 yrs old he still locks guys down! all you hear about is how dirty he is.

chris paul likes hitting guys in the nuts, but hey he is a very good point guard so that makes it ok.

  44. DaPro says:

    What’s up Dime Family

The King crowned KG last night..can’t argue that

Boston needs to step it up anybody who say the game and understands bball knows what they can do to win

The all defensive team is somewhat of a joke. Blocks and steals don’t always make for a great defender.

Camby just like Ben Wallace is a great (was) help defender not a 23 hr 1 day of rec. lockdown big man

Paul is quick and has good anticipation but he can’t defend most points straight up cause of his size

  45. GayforRudy says:

On my personal “Tmac Meter” it means that Garnett and Allen must have lazy eyes that I have never noticed!

And I have to admit that Lebron was wonderful last night. I loved it when they ran that one play where Lebron holds onto the ball and then dribbles around and jacks up a three that misses. They must have ran that play 20 times last night. And it was always executed perfectly! Is it to much to ask that both Cleveland & Boston lose this series? I mean who gives a sh….?

  46. Austin Burton says:

@Rudy — Boston’s been considered the team to beat in the East all year. Therefore, reigning powerhouse.

  47. rangerjohn says:

    lmao gay for rudy

my wife asked me “if the rockets and suns played a series would they do the ‘there can be only one’ comercials with tracy and steve nash?, and if so would they use thier good eyes or their bad eyes, because that could either be really funny or really bad!”

  48. Three Stacks says:

rangerjohn, Minnesota’s season you’re talking about, w/ the best record, conference finals, and KG playing w/ All-Stars all happened in THE SAME SEASON. Don’t use one year as an example for his entire career. He had a couple All-Stars, yes, but that was for ONE season. The only year his team had any kind of home-court, they made it to the conference finals, so if he had any kind of consistent talent to his rosters, he probably could’ve done better.

  49. rangerjohn says:

3 stacks, i am not argueing the fact that he could have had more tallent but he still was unable to get it done when he had the chances
as i stated, he had more then 1 good season, 3 50+ win season in 4 yrs is pretty nice if you ask me. and look at who they played in the playoffs, 1999, lost to the spurs (champs), 2000 lost to portland (con finals lost to the champs) 2001, lost to the spurs (con finals lost to the champs) 2002 dallas (fluke loss?) 2003 lakers (lost to the champs spurs) 2004 lost to la (lost to the champ pistons in finals)

the twolves had good teams but could not get over the hump or they played better teams (except that dallas team)

it is not all kg but he has to take the blame as much as anyone else in his position.

  50. YOUNGFED says:

Damn Celts Hold ya head up bruh the Fat lady ain’t sung yet pimpin’. Yall should be alrite unless Lebron puts on the Cape.

    @Gay4Rudy post#42
Tru Tru, couldn’t have said it better The Spurs and Pistons should be the reigning powerhouse’s every year. Those are the only 2 teams that could be down 3-1 and theirs fans would still say. “Eh, they’ll win it win they’re ready” lol And literally say it with confidence.

  51. doc says:

3 stacks he had some good teams back for like a 5 year strech they won 50 every year. They just lose. One thing Bron did do is step up the bar for superstars because if he can keep taking them doo doo ass teams they keep putting around him deep in the playoffs every year the least a true star could do was get out the first round every now and then.

  52. alex says:

@chuck – i share ranger’s dislike for Paul. I dislike him as a player – but i don’t deny he’s really really gifted. He has a decent jumper, he’s got the BEST handle in the game today, and he’s a good reader, passer. But despite all these amazing talents, I think he plays cheap and he’s always trying to ‘get away with something’ – a small shove (usually in dead ball situations), a flop, a bump etc etc. – and he usually does because his size allows him to play ‘victim’ even if he started the whole thing.

Nevertheless, i see the refs are starting to wise up to his tactics though.

  53. for real says:

What I don’t like about CP3 is he pushes off his defender like 90% of the time. Why the refs don’t call that ish, I’ll never know….

  54. Celts Fan says:

Youngfed, here’s the problem which I know you know all too well. At some point, LeBron WILL put on the cape for the whole game. We give games away and don’t close them out. I’m trying to stay positive, but it’s tough after the showings we’re seeing and the stuff giong on during them. Rondo took like 15 shots last night. That should NEVER happen in the Playoffs. I feel like we’re playing like a young team, and some of the possessions we have late in close games bare that out, just quick shots, mostly jumpers, hardly taking it strong at all… Ray Allen’s disappeared for the majority of the series, Paul Pierce is still taking too many “hero shots,” and Sam Cassell has an itchier trigger finger than the Son of Sam. 0 for the Playoffs on the road is unacceptable.

  55. Kudabeen says:

I just want to add that I think Chris Paul does belong on the All-defensive team. I will ask the question though…Is Chris Paul really a better defender then Iverson than Iverson was when he was racking up steals in years past.

I think people under value steals and how disruptive it is to the game. A block is not more valuable then a steal. It may ignite the crowd a little, but it doesn’t lead to an extra offensive possession or fast break as the same rate as a steal. The excuse for Iverson never being on the All-Defensive teams, was that as a small guard he was a liability in the post…? The Iverson in Denver is not the one I’m talking about. I’m talking about the Iverson that was fighting in the post with 2 guards earlier in his career, fronting the post and out leaping the bigger guards to steal the ball.

Yeah I sound like a fan, but it has always agrevaited me that people selectively place importance on steals. If CP3 steals the ball at an high rate that’s great defense, when Iverson was doing it for years, Allan Houston was being called a “great” defender…

  56. YOUNGFED says:

    Question of the Day:
Who do you guys think get ROY next season? (Oden, Rose, Mayo, Beasley).

My Vote goes to Oden he’ll have a lot to prove next year.

  57. Myrie says:

If the weather is nice on Friday here in NY, I think I will have a case of ‘Anal Glaucoma’….

Funny stuff from Charles Barkely; another classic line.

    PS
LeBron’s mom, Gloria James, is not that bad. Especially compared to Doug Christie’s wife…..remember when she ran into the players tunnel to get involved in a fist fight btwn Doug Christie and Rick Fox in 2003?

  58. YOUNGFED says:

Celts don’t worry the Cape want stop the big 3 from holding it down.

  59. Three Stacks says:

What you guys are saying about Garnett isn’t anything we haven’t known for awhile now: he can’t be the offensive focal point of a team. We’ve known this for as long as he’s played, but why do people still blame him when the Celtics lose?

I dunno if you remember, but those Wolves teams sucked. It doesn’t matter if they won 50 games for a few years, they had very little talent. I don’t remember a single year besides the year they had the #1 seed where the Wolves were favored in any way in the first round. If 67 wins can’t get you past the 1st round, why should a few 50 win seasons?

I think KG is an extremely talented player, but he’s overrated. His passion for the game makes people like him and throw higher expectations on him, but he’s never been a player to lead a team to greatness. The fact that people don’t realize this and put the blame on him when his teams don’t play well is what bothers me.

  60. Juanito says:

LeBron’s mom is lucky Pierce didn’t drop gang signs on her after that tussle…

  61. GEE...I once got busy in a Burger King bathroom! says:

Juanito hilarous and KG is lucky the didn’t fire T-Shirts at him.

Beasley ROY next year. Oden will prolly get injured again.

My thing is with LeBron’s squad being doo doo they are always in the thick of it.

So is this to say they really are better than we give credit?

Is it to say that teams play down to their level when playing the Cavs.?

Or is it that LeBron and company have help from the refs to keep the games closer than they actually should be.

Finally is it that LeBron is that outstanding more so than others who have played on doo doo teams? Cause I am thinking, outside of his drives to the whole, it’s not like he is doing things spectacular shooting wise that no other star could do?

I am going to say it’s teams play down to their level. Some very good teams have a bad habit of doing it. Some teams have a way of causing teams to play their style.

  62. Kudabeen says:

It’s hard to argue in defense of KG’s greatness right now…That’s really sad, especially with them showing clips of Bill Russell showering KG with Love and encouragement.

KG is playing in a bubble on the floor. He comes out every now and then, but then he retreats back in himself. I use to think that his talking to himself was to fire himself up, but maybe dude has split personalities and what we witness is to different entities battling out. He needs to take the emotional handcuffs off and stop letting AV and Ben Wallace guard him. Celts need that fire, he needs to get off of that meditating $#!% when the 4th quarter starts and be who we thought he was…

Ray Allen how is it all of the sudden ‘he got lame’…? Did you see Bron just throw him to the side and ray fell down with this defeated look on his face. Does this “Celtic Pride” only exist when they are in Boston?

Barkley is funny as hell! He was like, “I’m going call Doc Rivers and ask if the Celtics can wear their home jersey’s on the road…” That may be the only that can help them shield their collective hearts from being taken on the road..

Why the hell is Doc not playing rondo when he is being aggressive? Sam wasn’t helping on either end, but Doc keeps going to him. Love Sam (when he is hitting shots), but if Rondo is being aggressive when the “big 3″ are shrinking, let him get a shot or two eaten and play through.

  63. Kudabeen says:

I can’t say the Cavs are “doo doo”

They have a 7-3 center that has consistently proven to be a match up problem, they have certified shooter to compliment Lebron’s drive and pitch game. They have solid defenders are every position. They rebound and play with great energy. Sounds like a really good team to me. Their team is proving to be more functional than Boston’s or the Pistons’…Looking forward to how Boston responds.

Cavs get blown out (ala Atlanta)…?

    DIME:

I’m guess that no team has ever won a chip Losing all their road games? (In any sport with a 5+ game series)

  64. rangerjohn says:

the thing about cp3’s defense, it is all steals, he does nothing else on D. when was the last time ANY point guard “locked someone down” 10 yrs ago when the glove was still the glove? williams and fisher have better defense then paul but once again he has those steals.i mean dang baron davis came up #2 in steals and has anyone accused him of playing defense?

  65. rangerjohn says:

in regards to the ROY, does greg oden even qualify? he may not have been able to play this season but he was still under contract. i dont think he can recieve the rookie of the year in his “technical” second season.

  66. GEE...I once got busy in a Burger King bathroom! says:

Steals is part of D. Steals alter the opponents thought process of where, how and when to pass. Of course steals often equal to points. Steals require timing, smarts and precision. Steals often also equal to the person fouling you who had his rock stolen.

Not to mention it’s not like he is a big pg. For his size he tries. Also no one is going to “lock down” your Deron Williams and TP’s of the world one on one. Now perhaps as a team but they are to good and quick. So in light of his efforts and still actually getting those steals he is ok. Think of how many guards that can’t even get thooooose steals.

  67. Austin Burton says:

Oden does qualify. He’s as much of a rookie as JC Navarro was a rookie this year. Drafted one year, played a different year.

  68. Celts Fan says:

ranger, you’re forgetting Chauncey. He locks people down. JKidd too (from a few years ago, not so much anymore)

  69. rangerjohn says:

    austin
my question is, he was under contract for the blazers, he got paid 4.6 mil this season, navaro was drafted but didnt play and was never paid. same as manu, he was drafted 2-3 yrs before he actually played and was never inked on a deal.

he was listed o nthe tams roster for the early part of the season anyway.

  70. rangerjohn says:

celts, yeah i will give you billups, kidd would have to be several yrs ago.

  71. YOUNGFED says:

    RangerJ
Oden does qualify none of that matters. He never played a game therfore he’s still a Rookie

  72. D.H. says:

Will Stern resign if its a Pistons Spurs finals? But seriously, how funny would that be the two teams everyone has as a little over the hill, playing for the chip.

  73. YOUNGFED says:

    DH
They both want go Stern ain’t havin that but of them definetly will be there.

  74. Celts Fan says:

ya Ranger, that’s why I said not anymore for Kidd, but you said in the last 10 years, and Kidd was locking guys up within the past decade.

Let’s not forget the role players like Lindsay Hunter and Keyon Dooling too.

  75. Dave says:

I’d take Fisher over CP defensively all day every day….ask Deron Williams who he’s rather play against.

  76. rangerjohn says:

    celt
role players i cant count, when you are not even on the playoff roster i dont think you can be counted.

yeah over the last 10 yrs kidd was a decent defender. i still say none of htem could lock another point like the glove.

    @ youngfed
playing in a game vs being on the payroll different things. i dont think oden is eligable because he was on a contract with a nba team.

there sare rookies who dont get a single minute or get sent to the d-league and never play a game in the nba but none of them are eligable for ROY.

as an example, courtney sims did about as much this season as oden did but he will not be eligable for ROY next season if he posted 25, 10 and 5 assists.

  77. YOUNGFED says:

It’s A fact Ranger that he’s eligable this year I wasn’t arguing just letting you know so you don’t look stupid fam.

Amir Johnson was in the D-league and came in as a rookie?

  78. rangerjohn says:

    youngfed

where do you get this info? where is the ruling htat he is eleigable?

but amir was not signed on a team before he came in on his 1st season. d-league is not the same thing.

i would like to see where it shows oden is elligable. i dont see him being eligable because again he was signed by a team, same thing as if labron james had been signed by cleveland and then the coach sat him for the entire season, then let him go off in season 2. once you get the paycheck, you are officially in your rookie year no mater how much you play. ian mahinmi played in 6 games for an average of 3 minutes, then went to the d league, he is not elligable.

  79. rangerjohn says:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/teams/roster?team=por

see he is “officially” listed on the blazers roster from this season showing his salary and all.

looks like he missed his rookie season to me

  80. YOUNGFED says:

So me and Austin don’t know what we’re talking about huh? Sometimes I think you just like to argue.

  81. rangerjohn says:

    lmao youngfed
i enjoy argueing with you because you get all worked up and it is funny.

as for the oden thing, i want to see soemthing “official”, taking a guys word for it is one thing (i dont doubt austin, you can be a bit shaky some times lmao) but i dont see how he can be allowed considering he is a contracted player in the nba for the 07-08 season. making him a rookie playing time or not.

  82. yallallreadyknow says:

yall pricks need to stop ya bitchin
yall soundin like a bunch of sissy’s
    girly-mans

  83. GEE...I once got busy in a Burger King bathroom! says:

First off is that the real YOUNGFED with a line like

“So me and Austin don’t know what we’re talking about huh? Sometimes I think you just like to argue.”

No K-Hova, no YOUNGFED aka mule piss (just messin with ya)

No talk of money and everything???

I think we have an imposter lol.

Just messin with ya Young …if that is you.

Seriously I am just trying to see why it matters so much if Oden is or not a rookie? He ain’t gone get rookie of the year either way.

  84. rangerjohn says:

    gee lmao

it really doesnt mater, but if you are having a rookie of the year conversation and you include a guy who is not eligable then it skews the entire conversation somewhat. thats my point.

  85. SAS Sizzle says:

@RangerJohn – okay, fellow Spurs fan, you gotta relax man. And this is for all true Spurs fans, not just you.

But you act like people haven’t been disrespecting the Spurs for the last 7 years or something; you should be over it by now unless you just recently started watching Spurs b-ball.

People are going to hate them because they are so freakin’ good and don’t have any drama or egotism from their superstars that the media can latch onto and make a Hollywood script. The only thing they care about is WINNING, not ENTERTAINING (many people hate this esp., go watch WWE if that’s what you care about).

Let people call them BORING, let people call them DIRTY, let people call them OLD. If they are fortunate enough to win another Championship you can sit there with class and enjoy the victory and not even have to say I TOLD YOU SO.

When you see the Suns, Lakers, and all the media darlings get eliminated you can revel in their pain without having to rub it in their faces. Quit being so damn defensive bro. Just root for the “good guys” and forget all the naysayers and knuckleheads.

Make positive comments about the teams you are up against, not stuff like “Chris Paul is dirty” because for (1) people will say you are hypocritical and (2) it sounds like a freakin’ Suns fan whining about the opposition all the time instead of appreciating the game. Have some tact and discretion. Don’t be a player hater!

Just my advice for anyone who roots for the classiest organization in sports – bar none. And then come over to the clubspurs.com forum if you want to join a bunch of people who have already dealt with Hater-ade for years and just like to get along with each other while enjoying CHAMPIONSHIPS.

  86. d1n says:

    Jason Kidd?! Really?

  87. Dave says:

    SAS Sizzle…
That was the best post of the day. Pop does it right and from the way I see it in SLC I would say that’s the best formula and attitude for winning. Who cares what anyone else says, the one team nobody wants to play, because they only play to win as a unit, are the Spurs.
    dang, go Hornets.

  88. Ian says:

garnett in the playoffs in 4th quarter
“looks like tarzan and plays like jane”
    LOL

“boston has 3 robins no batmans”

  89. rangerjohn says:

    well said SAS
    fair enough

i have been a spurs fan since i moved to SA at age 5, and it gets freakin old year in and year out, especially living in houston where the majority of the rockets fans here are either “fair weather fans” or are still living in the “we won 2″ era. living in houston, i get sooo much flack because i chose spurs over rockets every day of the week. i get so tired of “you are an asshole because you have season tickets to a team you dont even like”, all the while i have always like the rockets (behind the spurs) but damn rockets fan can sure make it hard to root for the rockets.

then you wantch chris paul get played to a draw by tony parker and all you hear is how great paul is, i mean damn man. it just gets OLD!

i see your points SAS and i can agree with that for the msot part, fair enough.

  90. Ian says:

    mister sun
can u stop suckin garnetts dick

    that comparison u used sucked

yes the dunk was overrated cuz like the one on duncan wasnt contested

  91. Desert Storm says:

    @ post 59
    I completely agree
Blamin KG for those shitty Wolves teams not winning makes no sense. Did anyone ever expect the Wolves to get by the Shaq-Kobe Lakers or the Tim-Manu-Tony Spurs? Hell no. But memories must be short cuz peeps keep sayin that KG can’t win with “all” his good teams. Face facts. He had NO chance of winning out west. The one good team he had, the best chance he had, with an old Sam I Am and a downhillin Spree, they had to go up against the Lakers. No chance. It’s a miracle those Mchale screwed-up teams ever won 50. This is the first year that KG’s had a team we can honestly say even have a chance to do anything. Why everybody trippin about Boston makes no sense. Nobody is losing at home these playoffs cuz 7 of the 8 teams are legit contenders and like someone said yesterday, Orlando ain’t ready to sit at the adults table. Boston’s winning by almost 20 at home, Utah can’t lose at home, New Orleans won’t lose at home, Los Angeles doesn’t lose at home, nobody wins in Detroit, Cleveland steps up at home, and San Antonio never loses at home. It’s time to face facts, fam. This is that year where it’s gonna be the last home team standing wins.

  92. SAS Sizzle says:

Well you can look at one trend… How many teams are emulating what they are doing? Blazers, Sonics, Cavs, Hornets, et al. Imitation is the highest form of flattery, right?

There’s a lot of envy out there for what the Spurs have accomplished. Real (Spurs) fans just need to leave it at that and not worry about why someone hates Bruce Bowen or complains that Manu is a flopper, thinks Timmy whines too much, hates Tony Parker for being French and married to a TV actress, don’t think they deserve a trophy, the team is boring, etc, etc.

As a matter of fact, once you accept the reality that you are not going to change folks minds it becomes quite amusing to sit back and watch people actually resort to talking about a guy’s bald spot just to spit some venom at the team they can’t stand. Makes winning a hell of lot more fun, too!

Which is why I don’t care that the Lakers got Gasol handed to them on a silver platter because when they lose it has more impact, just makes it that much sweeter. Even if they win the ‘chip, you are not gonna see me going around whining saying how they only won because of some cheap move – you can’t take away what they accomplished just because of one controversial incident (think Horry hip check, haha).

Winning cures a lot of ills my friends.

  93. SAS Sizzle says:

    Hey Ian,

Mister Sun just tried to get a rise out of folks, don’t fuel his “solar flares”. He states the opposites of reality all the time. What else would you expect from a Phoenix fan? Delusions…

  94. rangerjohn says:

you know the funniest thing about that post SAS (#92) i like to make fun of manus bald spot too lmao. i even have a “drive to the finals” league i started on nba.com sporting the name manu’s bald spot. lmao

i see your points, i agree with them, i just say it is hard dealing with all the hate that gets spewed here living in houston. but then at least i dont live in dallas lmao

  95. rangerjohn says:

by the way SAS you should have seen the looks on the people who have season tickets right around me that i know when the 1st game the spurs came to the toyota center and i was wearing a spurs shirt lmao it was double take after double take when i would stand and cheer harder for the spurs then i ever do fo the rockets lol.

    mmmmm good times!

  96. Ian says:

    sas
u ru right my bad for dat

    desert storm
    what all those teams
    boston
    detroit
    lakers
    utah
    san antonio

sure they all are great are home teams
but boston is by far the worst one in the road

  97. K Dizzle says:

The 1995-96 All Defense 1st team

    Scottie Pippen, Chicago
    Dennis Rodman, Chicago
    David Robinson, San Antonio
    Gary Payton, Seattle
    Michael Jordan, Chicago

    Who’s scoring on this team?

I agree with what Gee said on CP3. 3 steals a game in this league ain’t a joke. Someone had a good point on tnt statin that CP got votes for his defensive activity. He fights thru screens, gets over them, plays the passin lane, but gets steals also by doublin down and pickin guys clean. That being said, he doesn’t belong on the 1st team and his second team spot could easily have gone to Chauncey or Rondo or DWill

  98. K Dizzle says:

    Ian

Boston is garbage on the road, but since they got the homecourt thru the finals, they can do this skitz act all the way to the finals, but you right tho. It’s embarrassin. They the only team that doesn’t even compete on the road

  99. GEE...I once got busy in a Burger King bathroom! says:

K Dizzle I love that squad cept for your Center. All centers score on David come on lol. Duckworth scores on David. Oliver Miller scores on David. Manut Bol scores on David!

The rest I will give you.

You know as far as Boston. I am scared they will get so caught up in “Well we can always win at home” that they mess around and slip up. I hope not but they seem to be falling on that a little to heavy.

Cause a team like Detroit will go in yo house and lay it down, especially when they are focused!

  100. SAS Sizzle says:

100! Wow, how gratifying, if only I could be first

  101. rangerjohn says:

    lmao sas
and is that gee trying to get a rise on the david getting scored on?

  102. for real says:

Greg Oden should only be eligible for Most Improved Player, because he sure sucked this season (when he got re-injured in that one pick-up game)

  103. Austin Burton says:

He didn’t actually get re-injured, did he? I thought the Blazers were mad simply because he played and risked re-injury.

  104. GEE...I once got busy in a Burger King bathroom! says:

lol ranger I strickly did that for rise purposes only lol.

Impressed you didn’t fall for it lol.

Ummm for real not sure one can really suck and they haven’t played? I mean it (the situation of him being injured) probably sucked, but usually don’t you only say a player sucks once they have played? Unless you know dude personally or you were actually at the pick-up game and he didn’t do well lol.

Can’t wait to see what goes dooowwwnnn tonight!

  105. Tim says:

I am just glad Detroit shouldn’t have to play Lebron this year…unless they upset Boston. We’ll be ready this year though.

  106. rangerjohn says:

    gee
lmao yeah i almost fell for it but then i though 1st gee seams like a guy who would know better, and 2nd i have found a new religion, the word of SAS Sizzle.

  107. K Dizzle says:

    lol @ post 99

    Damn, Gee. Ian’s gonna snap

  108. Tim says:

and yeah Detroit will beat Boston once or twice at home in the East Finals this year…Since Pistons will win in 6.

  109. SAS Sizzle says:

I take the Zen approach, pacifism is where it’s at (when it comes to hoops critiquing) Ranger! I thought you would fall for GEE’s comments on that one, tryin’ to push your buttons man! Way to call ‘em out.

As much as you post pro-Spurs stuff you should definitely check out clubspurs.com forum section, it’s the only place I know where it doesn’t get all retarded and overblown, no cussing each other out and being vulgar. Good chat rooms during games and such, too.

Sorry to solicit AB, Dime is also excellent for recaps and opinions which is why I’m here e’ryday! Although there is a troll factor here at times…that’s okay tho. I like being vulgar sometimes, too, ya know.

  110. Ian says:

    gee
    u suck
    lol
he was defensive player on the year
but u gotta try harder today to piss me off
comon did i piss on your cereal this morning?

    kdizzle
im peacefull today gotta be to survive 2nite today its my gf bday gettin together with all her friends like 500 chicks talking bullshit all night
im gonna miss my spurs gm

  111. Ian says:

    kdizzle
what i meant by the road thing was more that the other teams have chances to beat them in boston but boston cant beat anyone right now on the road

    u think boston can beat
    detroit
    spurs
    lakers
    hornets
for sure on their homecourt all 4 games
    i dont think so
    utah they can

  112. Ian says:

    payton was overrated on D
wow just got a slow down cowboy when tryin to post this

  113. SAS Sizzle says:

GEE great tagline today, remember when they had to censor out the BK line on the TV/Radio edit?

  114. marcus says:

damn, this smack’s outta be breakin’ records or something… 113 replies (minus this one)? that is filthy sick…

  115. doc says:

If GP was overated on D,Popovich cant coach.

  116. Ian says:

    just an opinion doc

  117. for real says:

is the TNT mantra 40 games in 40 nights?

..or is it 40,000 TNT commercials of the same crappy shows in 40 nights?

  118. rangerjohn says:

@ for real, that is FOR REAL! i am sooo tired of all the same comercials including the falling away sprite.

SAS i have my own forum, we have been up and running for a while but we tend to keep it local
