Game 7 Halftime Notes
Time for CP’s close-upSome quick thoughts at halftime of Game 7:
* David West is obviously OK. He came out and stuck five of his first seven shots, pulling out spin moves, jab steps and generally looking like he had no problems with his back. No reason he should be jacking threes, though.
* The Hornets are doubling Tim Duncan every time he touches the ball in the post, which has led directly to three-pointers for Bruce Bowen and Manu, and some damaging drives by Tony Parker. New Orleans hasn’t done this all series until today, right? If there’s anyone who can guard Duncan 1-on-1 it’s Tyson Chandler, and he’s been doing a good job. Why change now? If anything, the Hornets have lost games when they’ve let San Antonio’s shooters go off.
* Killer 12-0 run for the Hornets midway through the second quarter, until the Spurs came right back and took the lead. Ime Udoka cost the Spurs big-time in that stretch by air-balling a jumper, passing up the open threes he was getting from the Duncan double-teams, then turning the ball over right into Mo Pete‘s hands one time. If Chris Paul had been able to make a free throw during that stretch the Hornets’ lead would have been bigger.
* Could’ve sworn we saw Rodney Guillory sitting behind press row.
* Reggie Miller and everyone else keeps talking about how much Game 7 experience the Spurs have, but Duncan has only played in two Game 7′s in his career. Are the Spurs postseason-experienced? Obviously. Game 7? Not as much as you’d think.
* Over the next 24 minutes we’re going to see how good Chris Paul really is. If this game keeps going the way it has, the only way the Hornets can win is if CP goes crazy. They should run that pick-and-roll to death so Paul can live in the lane. Be prepared to see a ton of his floaters, and if he makes a bunch, that’s when the spot-up shooters can go to work.

This season has to be considered a success. N.O. is definitely a great young team with a great future.
That N.O.’s PG is definitely the real deal…he tried to carry the team on his back, especially in the last 5 minutes….What’s that guard’s name??? Jannero Pargo or something???? This summer, they need to find a way to surround him with some clutch performers, or at least some players who wants to shoot the ball when it counts.

why the fuck did pargo decide it was appropriate to take 13 or 14 shots in the 4th qtr? and why didn’t coach scott or chrissy paul or david west demand the ball…the hornets completely went the opposite direction from what they had been doing all series/season long..mjordan, ljames, kbryant would never have allowed a nobody like pargo flush their hard-earned season down the shitter….chrissy poo paul needs to grow a pair…at least he has all summer to do so!

pimpdaddy, it’s more like you should ask why Paul was deferring to Pargo over and over in the 4th quarter? Pargo was the only guy keeping them close and actually hitting shots. Was West? no. Was Peja? no. Paul? occasionally. All i saw was Paul dishing to Pargo and wanting nothing of the ball, and missing badly in crucial moments when he did shoot. At least Pargo was hitting 3′s when everyone else was cold
