The Thought of KG is Enough to Make Bill Russell Cry
I may be a Philly guy, but I can’t help but like Kevin Garnett. Over the years doing the mag, he’s always been one of the best guys to work with (see THIS VIDEO where he does his Ric Flair imitation for me on camera as Exhibit A).
Garnett’s all heart, whether it’s in front of a camera or on-court. Sometimes though, the melodrama is a little much. The video after the jump that popped up on ESPN at the end of last week is so over the top that it made the crew in the office laugh out loud (even the Boston fans). It an all fairness, it’s not really KG’s fault. The Braveheart-esque music and Bill Russell looking like he’s about to burst into tears is what pushes the whole thing to another level.

Who wrote that shit Steven Spielburg? They should get the Kill Bill dude to write part 2 when Bill shares his ting with KG 3 years later and pulls out a shotgun and blows KG hand off when hes trying it on.

all defesive team named, kobe, garnett, camby, duncan and bowen all 1st team.
i am not realhappy about the espn article about it though, they talk about koeand garnett as the hadliners, and barely a mention of camby, duncan, and bowen. they are sort of making abig deal about kobe and KG, talking about kobemaking it 8 times, an kg or the 9th, well bowen is on his 8th, and duncan on his 11th!
to me duncan on his 11th shuld be getting a little more mention then 1 line.
“NEW YORK — League MVP Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett were selected to the NBA All-Defensive Team on Monday, along with Marcus Camby, Bruce Bowen and Tim Duncan.
Getting Defensive
Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett are no strangers to the NBA All-Defensive Team. Bryant made the squad for the 8th time while it was Garnett’s 9th selection.
Player Team
Kevin Garnett Celtics
Kobe Bryant Lakers
Marcus Camby Nuggets
Bruce Bowen Spurs
Tim Duncan Spurs
Garnett, who helped the Boston Celtics to the league’s best record, was chosen for the ninth time. The forward was chosen defensive player of the year last month.
Bryant, who earned his eighth selection, and Garnett each received 24 first-place votes from the league’s 30 coaches. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players.
Garnett led a defense that held opponents to 90.3 points per game and a league-best .418 field-goal shooting percentage.
Camby had a league-leading 3.61 blocked shots per game for the Denver Nuggets and was second in rebounds (13.1 per game). Duncan, on the team for the 11th time, and Bowen, making the team for the eighth time, play for the San Antonio Spurs.
The second team is Shane Battier of the Houston Rockets, Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets, Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic, Tayshaun Prince of the Detroit Pistons and Raja Bell of the Phoenix Suns.”

Corny. Moving on, I think Bowen and Shane are a toss up.
I am really surprised on Chris not being first team. I thought he had like a whole bunch of steals or something this year? Maybe I am wrong.

Whats wrong with one great speaking admirably to another?
Bill Russel is one of the most down to earth, level headed people to ever lace em up and be called great. He has a genuine moment with a player that he admires and you would think by your response they were doing a remake of brokeback mountain.
Get over yourselves!

Three Stacks says:
Bill Russell loves basketball. If I were a Hall of Fame basketball player getting on in his years, and I found a young, talented ball player that shared the same passion for the game I had, it’d probably make me teary-eyed and nostalgic for my glory years, too.
But somebody needs to tell Bill Russell the Lakers are gonna crush KG’s dreams.
Also, Battier > Bowen. Battier placed higher in the defensive player of the year voting, how does he get 2nd team behind Bowen? Don’t get it.

That piece was ridiculous. I saw it live and had to turn it before I puked. KG even looked uncomfortable. Why all the love anyway? He hasn’t even won anything yet or even completed his first fucking season! Can’t we wait a couple years or at least one championship for this kind of weak ass fluff piece? Typical Boston bullshit though. You know they loved that crap.
