The Knicks May Trade the Sixth Pick
According to Marc Berman of the NY Post, Donnie Walsh arrived at the Orlando pre-draft camps sounding as though he wanted to talk about wheeling and dealing the Knicks’ sixth selection.
“We’re going to look at every option,” Walsh said in a state-of-the-Knicks Address at Disney’s Wide World of Sports. “Trade it outright for a very good NBA player. Trade back for multiple picks. Trade up. There’s a lot of different things you do. You explore everything.”
Of all those options, if the Knicks choose to trade up, don’t be surprised to see them try to nab Jerryd Bayless. Bayless grew up in Phoenix following Mike D’Antoni‘s Suns and has actually worked with Steve Nash on his game in the past.
“I’ve known Steve and I’ve worked out with him,” Bayless said, “so I know tricks and the things he’s shown me that I can use inside that offense.”
But odds are, Bayless won’t be available at the six spot. Rumors are that Seattle covets him at No-4. If the Knicks do choose to go with a point guard to grease the wheels for Steph’s eventual departure, they could trade down a couple of spots and still have their pick of either Russell Westbrook or D.J. Augustin.

Prof. TX says:
They ought to package the pick with a contract that they want to drop (Randolph, Curry, etc) and see who’s willing to take the good with the bad.

Who do the Pistons want with the #6 pick? If the Knicks offered Quentin Richardson, Jared Jeffries and the #6 pick, would you part with Tayshuan Prince and your 2008 draft pick?

Chuck...Haters come in all fashions and forms so bear arms says:
New York needs to trade that pick, they have talent, they need
1. Conditioning
2. discipline
and Mike D can’t provide either, and he can’t make them do either of them.
Crawford is nice
Eddy Curry and Zach Randoplh both could be forces down low if they weren’t so lazy.
Q rich used to average 17 a game? So they just need a foot in they behind, they don’t need anymore players or anymore picks.
Larry Brown was their last chance, he got there and tried to instill some discipline and they acted like some chumps. They don’t wanna win, they wanna make money and touch the female interns!

Lady Luck says:
Miami is said to have some interest in Curry. I’m sure they would sign and trade Marion for that pick and possibly Curry. How ironic if D’antoni and Marion were reunited.
Also,it’s rumored that the Wizards like Zach Randolph. they could package Zach and the pick to try to get Arenas. Gil would enjoy playing in D’antoni’s system.

to hell with the knicks. why do you all put up a section in these ny knick bums everyday?
shit. there are 30 teams in the league and only the knicks get their own section everyday. we wouldnt mind except…ny sucks; team, city and ppl.
who cares what they do with the pick.
do a column on sonics and let us know if their draft pick will out on a seattle cap or an oklahoma city cap on draft night.
thats the kind of new we want to know in advance.
we dont wanna know nothing about the punk ass knicks

Lady Luck,
Curry and a #6 for Marion?
Randolph for Arenas?
Either you’re a bigger Knick fan than me or you seriously think that Miami and Washington are a bunch of morons. Hopefully the latter is true….

NY is closer to a win-now team than a re-building team so trading the pick for a player who is ready to play is a good idea.
NY needs a starting PG and if Mayo is on the board at 6 they need to think about Mayo and Crawford running the backcourt…it could work.
I don’t think Mayo is going to last until 6 though (Memphis, Minnesota or Seattle will take him).
I read Toronto could be looking to trade TJ Ford for the pick and one of NY’s bad contracts. Would be a nice trade for the Raps but I think there are better options at 6 than TJ.
Package the pick with Marbury’s contract to Indiana for Jermaine.

NY haters go eat a dick. The Knicks will be relevant again. They play in the East. They can lose 45 games and still make the playoffs.

The Knicks will be relevant again, sure. The question is in what decade?

DaPro says:
Mayo and Crawford in the backcourt?????
The League allows a maximum of one basketball on the court to be used for games
Sounds nice but can’t see it
If they trade the pick then trade down and get something via the trade and a later pick and take DJ Augustine as the pg and pair him with Crawford
May 30th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
Detroit Dave says:
OJ Mayo is not a point guard.. The man has excellent vision but that does not make him a point guard. He is a natuaral scorer and putting him in a backcourt with Jamal Crawford would be a great idea if this was the Rucker League.

@yallalreadyknow
You’re a loser, why do you hate us New Yorkers so much huh? You mad cause some OK City mofo came to town and took the Sonics from ya’ll. At least the Knicks don’t have LOL LUKE RIDNOUR LOL as their pg.
Anyways, I think we should possibly trade down, draft DJ Augustin and prepare if they don’t bring Steph back. Like somebody said earlier, they have talent, it’s just that the pieces don’t fit. If we can trade either Curry or Randolph for some expiring contracts or a few role players, then we will be fine.

knicks are such a big mess that even getting beasley or rose won’t help much. getting d’antoni a team that can flat out run asap is the #1 priority, and i just don’t see curry or randolph getting up and down the floor that well, now or ever. get d’antoni 8 players who can run and play d now and they might win 40 in the easy east – has jamal crawford EVER made 40% of his shots?

BX, no you don’t have Ridnour, you have Steph and Nate Robinson. Much better…
May 30th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
Kobeef says:
Between Crawford and Mayo they have more than enough playmaking skill and speed to hang with any backcourt combo in the league….Jamal has one of the best handles in the league and Mayo is going to be pretty good himself.
Check this vid of Jamal..this is why D’Antoni came to NY (plus the money)

Three Stacks says:
It’s so sad that even Knick fans will take 45 losses and a playoff berth as a “return to relevancy.”
There’s no way Mayo is still on the board at 6, so no point in playing that scenario. Unless the Knicks trade up. I could see the Wolves trading down from the 3 pick, if Beasley or Rose aren’t there, they could wait till 6. Brook Lopez would probably still be available.

@ Big V….actually not a Knicks fan at all. But Curry and #6 for Marion….they might have to throw in another player, but IF Marion is leaving…Heat might consider it. Also read a rumor somewhere that Eddie Jordan from the Wiz likes Randolph, maybe something to do with his 20/10, and if they can’t get Brand they might consider it. Just threw it out there to see what others thought. I’m actually a Lakers and a Cavs fan. Have been for years (no bandwagonning here).
