The Dallas trade was terrible. I live in Southern California and am a Laker’s fan and also an Angels (baseball) fan. The example that I will use to validate how I view the Dallas trade is the Angels. They have a very good team and the best farm system in baseball. They are prepared to be good for very, very long time. Dallas on the other hand, mortgaged their future for just a name. Kidd is not the player he once was and now it is a 4 on 5 game whenever Dallas is on offense. Just keep Kidd from driving the lane and you can have 5 defenders on the other 4 players. Dallas traded to get old and let a potentially very good young player go in the trade. Another factor is that Harris was very well liked and this could be detrimental to the team chemistry.

As bad as this trade was, it was great compared to the Phoenix joke. Marion was the only one that played defense on that team and Shaq (as good as he once was) is at the end of his career. Phoenix may take 10 years to recover from this trade. Do we really have that short of a memory…Phoenix went pretty far in the playoffs a couple years ago when Stoudimare was injured and Marion was the main man upfront.

I thought the problem with Carlisle is that he DOES alienate everyone around him? I heard the Pistons’ front office hated him because he was a real prick to everyone from players to secretaries.

He’s a good coach, obviously, but this is still a horizontal move for Dallas, at best. I still wonder what Larry Brown is thinking about jumping at that Bobcats job.

Cuban is NOT a basketball mind, first and foremost he is a businessman. everything he did makes sense from a business standpoint…hes not as big a fool as most would like to think.

Carlisle is not a good fit in Dallas. He runs very very precise plays and that would be a problem for Kidd.

He did do it for money but for ticket sales, merchandise, and overall fan excitement. Salary cap is a long-term reason, but not why he made the trade. It was a “me to” trade after Gasol and Shaq. He knew his team could not win the title so why not bring back a future HOFer to get everybody’s attention again.

Carlisle is a good hire for them. He’s a level headed coach who won’t alienate his players the way Avery did and he’ll get the most out of Dirk and Josh and keep Kidd relevant for the next 2-3 years.

This team will make the playoffs every year until Dirk is gone but they’ll never win the title during the coming Kobe-Gasol-Bynum-Odom dynasty in L.A.
