Pistons Gameplan: Keep Pierce Out of the Lane
The Detroit Free Press’s Chris Silva got the skinny from Tayshaun Prince about the Pistons’ game two gameplan: keep Paul Pierce out of the lane at all costs.
“You can’t let him dictate it and then … try to defend that after the fact,” said Prince. “As a defense, you’ve really got to dictate the tempo with him. Then, if other guys are starting to make things happen, then we’ll have to make adjustments after that.”
Pierce was 9-11 from the field inside of 16-feet during game one on Tuesday night, but went 0-7 from 16-feet and out. While Prince plans to force Pierce one way or the other to try to throw him out of sync, Pierce changes direction as well as anyone when going one-on-one with a defender. He’ll need help to push Pierce outside of his comfort zone.
“When you have a player of that caliber that can turn the corner and make plays, you’ve got to try to get the ball out of his hand, or his first couple dribbles got to be away from the basket,” said Tayshaun. “Pretty much, on the majority of those pick-and-rolls, we didn’t do that.”

If Allen gets going it doesn’t matter. If Allen is still struggling … might very well be something.
Still Detroit got to make this game more chippy. Harder fouls. Boston has been known to try to intimidate teams this year, so in turn you got to bully a bully.
They need to rough Boston up and see how they respond.
I still hope Boston wins though. I just want better games.

See, anyone can say anything they want. The hard part is actually doing it…

Good thing Paulie has other strong parts of his game. When he starts knocking down outside shots you can bet he’ll also start getting into the lane.

just a minute…?
I just want to see if KG is going to go at the Pistons with the same energy. I don’t think Doc stays on him enough to post and get is feet in the paint after his first or second dribbles. His J has been wet, but he settles for too many Js. KG needs a PG or guy on the floor that will bark at him. Only time he had that was with Cassell with the Wolves. Sam use to direct KG to get low. Celtics just need to get more focused on their advantages (KG all day, Rondo of the dribble, Pierce posting Rip and wearing down his legs early, Ray getting to the Free-Throw line)
Is it possible that the Piston’s D is not as good as the Cavs’? I think Cavs may be the 2nd best defense in the league. It would explain why they do so much with what people say is so little.

Ubuntu is a great REGULAR season philosophy, but it is an awful POST season modus operandi. Post Season should be all about kicking @$$!
Keep KG out of an emotional coma, somebody slap Ray Allen and get him upset, keep Rondo engaged, keep letting Eddie house do what he do (get buckets from everywhere) and Tell Pierce he is not a point guard…
All that = Celts in 5

Juanito says:
In addition to containing Pierce, which should be easy for Detroit, they need bigger contributions from Rasheed and/or Billups. They nearly won game won with subpar games from both. If one gets hot, they will easily win. Boston is barely playing better than Orlando at this point

I got you juanito. Detroit was very sloppy last game and looked a little out of rhythm. Boston had a little something to do with that, though. But I think with the rust shaken off, expect a much better game from Detroit. They don’t get rattled on the road. They were at their best in the second quarter when they were aggressive. The best way to counteract Boston’s D is to attack it and not settle like Detroit did in most of game one. Taking game two would be huge for Detroit.

Detroit nearly won? They lost by 9 after an uncontested 3 at the final buzzer.

Billups needs to attack Rondo. He can’t guard him, even with a gimpy hamstring. Attack the weaknesses in that D, primarily Rondo and Allen, and Perkins to some extent.

That Celts in 5 prediction came with conditions, but I know reading comprehension is lacking in our public schools, so I’ll let it slide…
Detroit is going to “sweep” the next 4? Really? I guess we’ll see. What’s the stat about the teams that go up 2-0 in a series typically win the series? Was it in the 80+ percentile?
I just want to see good games and see if KG can shake some of the haters off with bigger more consistent performances…But I want to see a Joe Dumars constructed team succeed as well, much respect for that man and the way he evaluates talent.
What happen to Amir Johnson? Thought he was going to get more burn in these playoffs…

Kudabeen,
I’m a Pistons fan, Chauncey’s included. C bizzle was a nickname I’ve always had. I read exactly what you said, it’s just that the Pistons are too good for the Celts to beat in 5 under any cirumstances. I don’t think Detroit is going to sweep the next four. The two teams are too evenly matched. I just see Detroit getting it done. In order to apply that 2-0 stat, Boston’s gotta win game two, don’t get ahead yourself. I like KG and want to see him get a ring too, but he’s playing my hometown squad. Maybe next year. I agree with you on Amir, but I think he’s just a casualty of rotations being shortened in the playoffs. You’ll see him next year.

Gee,
why you gotta clown Young like that? I agree with you that Detroit needs to be more aggressive and more physical with Boston, especially Pierce and Garnett. KG has been acting like he’s allergic to the paint in the playoffs, and Detroit needs to attack that. Pierce is too tough to back off of (ex: Cleveland game 7)so you gotta be physical and try to wear him down. I diasgree with wanting Boston to win. I think if we ended up with another Pistons/Spurs finals, David Stern would lock himself in his office and punch himself in the groin repeatedly.

Hey if Detroit wins I ain’t mad. If it wasn’t for KG I would be rooting for Detroit. I am just one of those dudes that likes to see new players get rings.
For all that KG went through in Minny I am just rooting for dude.
Seriously though, Detroit being and playing to nice with these dudes. Time to come on wit da come on!

The only reason that I would want Detroit San An in the finals is cause it would piss off Stern. Man is the evil empire.
