Rutgers Crashes the Recruiting Party

As you would expect, programs like UCLA, UNC and Memphis have serious talent coming to campus in the fall. But guess who’s crashing the party with the No. 4-ranked recruiting class in the nation?
How long will it be before Rutgers is a true national basketball power?

I guess this is what happens when a Metro school gets good at football and starts getting love from ESPN.

give it time. If they don’t make noise this year in basketball and the football team falls off, they’ll fall right back to the backdrop and stay as useless as they’ve always been. They can’t keep getting top 5 classes. It’s Rutgers for Christ sakes.

Any school with the right coach (and commitment from boosters) can land top talent. Look at K-state, Nevada, Gonzaga, and the Missouri Valley Conf. For example.
However, becoming a “power house” program like UNC, Kansas, and UCLA takes decades of winning and tradition. Don’t count on it Rutgers fans.

exactly Mox, though with that location and student size (and assumably deep pockets), this could be that team that really gets things started in the right direction, but like Mox said, I wouldn’t count on it…

considering the talent pool in the metro area, i think rutgers is on the start of something pretty good. we’re already a women’s bball powerhouse…football is on the rise, we just recruited a top recruit tom savage for qb.
money is an issue. public education is severely underfunded in NJ bc of state debt and budget cuts…so thats one thing standing in the way.

Thank you Dime. I made a post a couple weeks ago in reference to the 2 Big East Teams in NJ and the amount of talent they’ve allowed to escape the state. It is feasible that Rutgers can become a contender every year with the players in the state.
Rutgers is a great school with great selling points. Dope alumni (nba commissioner David Stern included) who give back. Nice ammenities all over including BEAUTIFUL women. And its close to the city. Fred Hill is known for his ability to recruit and he’s been on his job as of late. I don’t know how good of an X’s and O’s guy he is but hopefully he can steal a couple wins and recruits from those great coaches throughout the Big East who already have established winning ways.
I do expect an increase in win totals and prized recruits from here on out. Maybe not at this rate but I think Rutgers will start to get some of the top tier talent in the state of New Jersey and that in itself is gonna change the look of Rutgers MENS basketball (hopefully they get newly designed uniforms, cuz those all red joints are oogly)
O and other than Maryland has there been a state to produce better basketball players than Jersey in the last 7 years?
