Spurs 91, Hornets 82: Instant Analysis

Why the Spurs won: Resiliency. It sounds corny, but it’s true. The Spurs responded to a 12-0 run by the Hornets in the second quarter, when the N.O. crowd was going nuts and other teams might have been buried, with a 13-1 run of their own. When the Hornets came back and made it a three-point game in the fourth quarter, San Antonio didn’t panic and made plays when they had to.

Why the Hornets lost: They couldn’t make shots in the third quarter. The Hornets got the shots they usually get, they just weren’t going down. Ultimately the 15-point deficit going into the fourth was too much.

Key numbers: Manu Ginobili (26 pts, 10-for-11 FT’s); Tony Parker (17 pts); Chris Paul (18 pts, 8 rebs, 14 asts, 5 stls); Jannero Pargo (18 pts); Rebounds (SAS 51, NOH 42); Threes (NOH 4-for-17, SAS 12-for-28).

Damn that was how to close out a game, hate them all you want (Im a Rox fan) but those guys know how to win & you HAVE to kill’em

  2. srb says:

that was kind of bizarre how it was pargo gunning at the end

  3. JeffyC says:

How bad is Bonzi Wells? My GOD as a Hornets fan he literally ruined the series for me. Someone name one thing he did right in 7 games aside from looking like the janitor from Rudy and probably taking some awesome bong rips. Good year NO we’ll be back.

  4. Ding Dong the Hornets are Dead says:

I just turned into a Lakers Fan (for the Western Conference Finals)

  5. rootsradical says:

chris paul was uninspired. i’m really disappointed in his play tonight. his numbers were right but where was his heart? Pargo is the only thing that kept that game even remotely interesting.

  6. yallallreadyknow says:

    spurs suck.
but why was peja on the court in the 2nd half? he bitches out in game 7s. and he’s 1 dimensional now. just a 3pt shooter. i thought byron should have taken him out of the game for mo pete.

  7. Myrie says:

    Dime,

No mention of the Spurs on the offensive glass? The Spurs bench outplayed the Hornets bench.

Hornets need a perimeter defender and a deeper bench going into next season.

  8. Big Freeze says:

    why the spurs won: 3’s

when did the spurs become dependent on the three? i guess ever since new orleans decided to double duncan. i never saw so many wide open three’s as i did with the spurs the last two games. we’ll see if LA decides to actually defend the arch unlike the Hornets.

i agree with post 4. i can’t wait to hate the spurs some more. i never thought i’de be rooting for the lake show, but it’s happening and i hope they embarrass the spurs.
and damn, can’t bonner get a few min of pt popavich? fuck, at least matt got to wear his warm-ups this game.

  9. Big Sneezy says:

The curse of Bonzi Wells strikes again.

  10. joe says:

the spurs just looked like they were waiting for this,to beat NO in a game 7,man that was clinic on how to finish off a series,i hope paul’s band took the lesson

  11. bill says:

    Doh, I hate being right.

    No peja, no win.

    BRILLIANT season by the hornets.

Classy effort by the spurs. As per the rockets……..of old……..never count out a champion!

  12. Jeffco says:

    Lakers or spurs?

    i take lakers in 5

  13. pimpdaddy says:

chris paul did his greatest kg impersontaion tonite (being a big no show in the 4th)…i don’t know why he didn’t bust pargo in the mouth (or balls) and demand the ball…if, in a game 7 situation (or any situation for that matter), pargo becomes your go-to-guy u will definitely be sent home packing….what the fuck was he thinking? what the fuck?

  14. Jeffco says:

    wait nevermind my last comment/post

    lakers in 4

i just cant see the spurs doing anything in that series

    sorry san antonio fans

    lakers are just better

  15. Chosen says:

lakers are in big trouble if fisher/farmar doesnt do everything they can to help the team. lakers had a hard time finding the 7 foot okur now they have to worry about parker driving and finley/barry/manu/horry kicking at the 3. overall team confidence, great passing and inspiration by the MVP with a sprinkle of #8 will make it a great series. lakers may give one away at home early…

  16. daquest?on Im Regularly Irregular says:

why cant the spurs dieeeeeeeee!!!!! they are like jason vorhees my god i hate the spurs so much , i hated the lakers cuz i hate kobe and they eliminated my nuggets but im rooting for the lakers

  17. daquest?on Im Regularly Irregular says:

    plzzzzz not another spurs/pistons final

  18. alex says:

like i’ve always said – spurs in 7.

  19. pimpdaddy says:

to: daquest? i’m regularly irregular…we all watched inside the nba sweetheart…’the psurs are like jason voories, they won’t die”…we heard barkley compare ‘em to cockroaches…u’ve posted the spurs/voories analogy twice….u r not even remotely original or funny…come on dude…do better than that or don’t waste our time with ur faggot-ass copycat posts….fo realz

  20. JeffyC says:

pimpdaddy: Pargo was out there as a spark and did just that. No one else had consistently gotten anything going up to that point so he started gunning and while I know some of his shots were highly ill-advised and bit much, I think he did a damn good job there in the 4th. Just imagine if the 3 had gone in when it was 83-80 Spurs. Damn. Go Motown.

  21. daquest?on Im Regularly Irregular says:

first of all i aint trying to b funny second of all i said it be4 barkley in case u dint know cuz i posted it b4 inside the nba went on. im writing my opinion just like everybody else u should just mind ur own business.. u must b one of those pathetic losers that has no life and nothing better else to do than picking fights over the internet….amazing

  22. rootsradical says:

pargo was the only one breathing for the hornets in the 4th. it might be sad but he brought them back. it was like he was the only one who played with any urgency.

  23. AL says:

    congrats everyone
get ready for SA vs DET
    it’s all official!!
Stern shd start worrying about the TV rating…

  24. pimpdaddy says:

so, the fact that pargo was the only hornet playing in the 4th is the perfect example of why chrissy poo paul didn’t deserve mvp…and to think, he coulda demanded the ball from pargo but he didnt…and now, he has the whole summer to REGRET not giving his team the best chance @ winning..
to daquest…since u are obviously writing the notes for sir charles on inside the nba then I will back off my previous post about ur repetitive anaolgies…will u post it again please? I haven’t read it enough tonite.

  25. daquest?on Im Regularly Irregular says:

@ pimpdaddy thats what i thought go and keep masturbating to lame porn lmfao u are pathetic

  26. vivdawg says:

jannero pargo looks like earthworm jim

  27. JDizzle says:

    Yeah, I can’t believe I’m saying this…but, GO Lakers!!
