   i am sorry but those are the fans that piss me off.

   while i agree guys like finley need a break and horry is done done done, ime is so inconsistent he needs to be a nugget, but from there i dont agree.

   imo finley needs to come off the bench, manu nees to go back to starting, barry needs to take finleys extra minutes, ime needs to be put in check and only pass the ball, dont dribble and ONLY catch and shoot, dont try to “create your own shot”. vaughn is good for 15 minutes, mighty mouse can shoot but he makes terrible decisions.
   oberto is a weakside helper never ment to be a one on one guy, thomas can guard most anyone on any given night.

   the big three is the problem, duncan sick (or just off), parker is hurting from the suns and shaq (or just off), manu well he is just off!

   home cookin will help out though

   its amamzing how the landscape of the nba changed this year- the 3 perenial western powerhouses (phx sa dal) are falling off the map, and are resoundingly being heralded as washed up and too old.

   It was only last year that dallas had suchhhh a bright future (w/ their 65+ win season, was it 68?) and now press is just killin them for being too old and saying that they’re not even close to being a contender. miami is in the same boat (interesting that both 2006 finalists are both now rebuilding projects)

   now there is the emergence of young teams that look poised to completely take the reigns of power in the west (utah, new orleans, lakers, and even portland)

   there is a definite transition of power in the west…

   to be honest with you my man, I think the hornets just may be a better team at this point. I wanted to save that obersvation until game 3 and see how the hornets perform on the road, but no parker isn’t tired from the phoenix game, they only played 5 games. Chris Paul is just stronger than parker, and he’s just as fast as parker. Manu may get rolling, but the hornets are playing great team defense. You gotta give credit where credit is due, even if you don’t like Paul.
   Or that just makes you a subjective fan, a delusional subjective fan at that.

   i would agree pretty much.

   the thing is these new teams have 1) seen what the suns have been able to do runnin and gunnin, and 2)know they have to have defense to win. that being said the younger teams are getting out and running AND playing defense. all 4 of those teams you named do both, play a faster paced style, AND for the most part can put a little defense when they need to. none of them are power houses in either style but a good mix of both (like what the spurs have been the last 3 yrs before this season in which they won 2 titles and missed a 3rd on a stupid foul)

   the nice thing about the spurs, while they may or may not rebound this season, their core is relatively young, duncan is the same age hakeem was when he won #2, manu is younger then clyde was. duncan is younger then jordan was on his 2nd 3-peet. kareem won a title at 40 (1987-88). then there is parker who is not even 26 yet. the “old guys” will all be gone after this season, thomas, horry, finley, oberto, mighty mouse, are all gone next season, barry and bowen still have legs, and i expect vaughn will be either traded or become bench fodder.

   the spurs will also be $17,000,000 (roughly) under the cap next season. i would say they have a few more years of a bright future depending on who they spend that money on. not to mention they have a couple of picks that are most likely coming over and are developing nicely in mahinmi and splitter.

   dont count the chanps out in odd numbered years and wait on that home cookin thursday

   parker has said repeatedly he is beat up from the suns (before this series even started) shaq pounded him over and over. he might not be tired but he is hurting.

   manu i think will break them down. the hornets HAVE PLAYED better to this point, i will be waiting until the series is over before i crown them as a better team. (unless it falls on a game 7 and another stupid foul, no way the 2006 mavs where better then the 2006 spurs, they just got lucky on a REALLY BAD FOUL!)

   Hahns, I think it was 4 days ago the media was still riding SA. But it looks bad. As a Spurs fan I am worried, but anything approaching whining from Spurs fans is obviously unwarranted. But you would like them to show up in the 2nd half. Who are we, the Suns?

   As for the Spurs being washed up: It pays to have not just the best big man but also the best management. Guess who has the best cap situation in the NBA this summer? One clue, they aren’t the team getting Sean Bradley off the books.

   yeah, its definitely a little early to write off the spurs already, and i wasnt aware of the sa’s cap situation- if ranger john is right, it sounds like they have a lota money to make some noise in this years free agnecy market.

   but the hornets have run circles around them thus far and its just odd to see the young teams running the champs out of the building.

   Just a classic example of not giving credit where credit is due. New Orleans has been the better team in this series, and it’s not even close. Maybe the Spurs can turn it around on their home court, but until they do, gotta give the Hornets their props.

    Regardless, there are no impact free agents that would fit San Antonio’s needs. They need an athletic, dead-eye shooter who can defend the 1, 2, and 3 and a better backup point guard. Most likely they’ll hand out one year contracts to a bunch of veterans, like they always do.

    If they resign Finley/Barry/Horry/Thomas, that’ll probably cost them anywhere from 10-12 million dollars, and they’ll still have a ton of money left. Jesus, the people in the front office really know what they’re doing. God, I fucking hate the Spurs.

    dizzle, you are correct, free agents generally dont come to the spurs (except horry, finley, barry, udoka and a host of others over the years) but then the spurs generally dont go out looking for free agents.

    last yrs cap was 67 mil not 55 (i think you are missing all the exceptions and things generally, this is how the spurs and rockets both had a salary of around 70 mil and neither is paying lux tax)

    also barry is under contract for the vet minumum next season (which is already included in the 53 mil they have on the books) finley, and horry are both gone, thomas might re sign but he will get a vet minimum also (he might get around 3 mil MAYBE) but imo they need a guy like a josh smith or an okafur, the other big has been their problem lately (besides the backup point), rumor was at the bigining of the season elton brand wanted to come over but i think that has changed after his injury i think he will be staying put.

    think about a sean marion opting out and signing a deal with the spurs, they can offer him as much as anyone would be willing to. there are not a ton of free agents but there are enough. guys like deng, gordon, who will be unrestricted next season. thee are enough guys out there where the spurs could pick some decent youth.

    and honestly, while so many fans hate the spurs,(as stated) there are a ton of players who would love to come play with parker, manu, and duncan. the league knows the spurs will be around until duncan retires and he has a few more years left on him.

    it is good to be a spurs fan!

    excuse me i miss typed the cap info, this is the cap info for this season, and the tax line is going to be in the 70 mil range for next season.

    The National Basketball Association today announced that the Salary Cap for the 2007-08 season will be $55.630 million. The new Cap goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. ET on Wednesday, July 11, when the league’s “moratorium period” ends and teams can begin signing free agents and making trades.

    The tax level for the 2007-08 season has been set at $67.865 million. Any team whose team salary exceeds that figure will pay a $1 tax for each $1 by which it exceeds $67.865 million.

    The mid-level exception is $5.356 million for the 2007-08 season and the minimum team salary, which is set at 75% of the Salary Cap, is $41.723 million.

    For the 2006-07 season, the Salary Cap was set at $53.135 million, the tax level was $65.42 million and the mid-level exception was $5.215 million.

    remember the spurs also have rights to a few euroleague players through the draft. there’s one that plays for tau ceramica right now i think. so they’ll have reinforcements next year in time to make another odd-year run.

    howevah, that kinda talk is a little bit premature. sure they have looked awful these first two games, but two wins at home and then this series is up for grabs again. let’s see how the big three respond in game 3.

    tiago splitter is the player you speak of, and he is a solid inside player, nothing special but solid.
    the other player is ian mahinmi and he should be ready to get some minutes next season. he is VERY solid but a bit imature at i think 19 or 20 yrs old.

    The San Antonio Spurs , as a professional team of NBA, is one of the major teams that has fans all around the world. It is quite normal if San Antonio Spurs tickets are so pricy or hard to find because such great teams tickets worth any price. It doesn’t matter if we pay a respected price for Spurs tickets because we satisfy our eagerness to watch good games and more than that when we go to watch a game it’s because we love this team and we shouldn’t be mean.
