How will the Pistons and Spurs stay on (or near the) top?

If you’re one of those fans who couldn’t wait to see the Pistons and Spurs get eliminated and hope they’ll just go away, don’t get too comfy. Detroit is looking to make a few tweaks in order to get over this conference finals hump they’ve run up against — they have to take a serious look at dealing Rasheed Wallace and his contract that expires in ‘09 — and one tweak most likely involves a coaching change. According to Peter Vecsey, Pistons assistant Michael Curry is almost a lock to take over if/when Flip Saunders is let go. We’ve also heard Terry Porter and Dave Cowens‘ names come up. Crazy idea, but what are the chances Isiah Thomas gets a look? We remember the Pistons’ last regular season home game against the Knicks, when they unveiled their 50th anniversary team with Isiah as the main attraction. It’s clear that the fans in Motown still love Zeke; it’s pretty much the only NBA city where he doesn’t get booed or laughed at on general principle. If he had Joe Dumars putting the right pieces on the court, do you think Isiah could be a successful coach? … Porter is also getting a long look for the Phoenix Suns job, for which Mark Jackson is reportedly out of the running because the team wants someone with experience on the bench. In Jackson’s defense, he could point to Doc Rivers, who took the Orlando job back in 1999 when he didn’t have any coaching experience. Doc eventually won a Coach of the Year trophy, and now less than a decade later he’s four wins away from a championship. We’re not saying Doc’s a great coach, but he’s on the verge of having two pieces of hardware that make a pretty good counter-argument … Doesn’t Chauncey Billups‘ bum hamstring give him a perfect asterisk to step aside for Chris Paul and Deron Williams when it comes to Team USA tryouts? Bowing out with an injury looks better than getting cut at the expense of some youngsters, even if we can all admit CP and Deron are plain better than Chauncey at this point … As far as the Spurs, while we’re not saying they should stockpile 22-year-olds, they could stand to get younger on the bench. But we read the team definitely wants to bring Kurt Thomas back, Robert Horry is saying he’s 80/20 on coming back for another year, and Mike Finley says he’s “not ready to hang it up.” Thomas we like. And contrary to what Charles Barkley said during the conference finals, Finley can still ball. But Robert Horry? Not so much. Even after coasting through the regular season he looked slow and tired in the playoffs, and he wasn’t knocking down shots on top of that. So what good is he other than a presence on the court that teams don’t want to leave open? Horry is a free agent, so don’t be shocked if he happens to end up in L.A. or Boston next year for one last go-round … In yesterday’s Smack we talked about the possibility of Pat Riley passing on Michael Beasley if he’s available at #2. Another reason why Riley might bypass the most talented player in the Draft is that Miami is looking to make a run at Elton Brand or Carlos Boozer in the next two years. Brand can opt out of his deal with the Clippers this summer, or he can become an unrestricted free agent in ‘09. Boozer can opt out next summer, plus he already owns a home in Miami. So let’s assume the Bulls just take Beasley, that could leave Miami with a future core of Derrick Rose, Dwyane Wade, Shawn Marion and Boozer/Brand. (That’s assuming they don’t mind paying a hefty luxury tax number; Boston had a similar salary structure this year with KG, Pierce and Ray all making between $16 million and $23 million.) With Riley coaching that team — and you know he’d wind up back on the bench — they could go a long way … How about Donnie Walsh throwing Stephon Marbury under the bus? Asked if he was worried about Steph and Mike D’Antoni clashing, Walsh told New York’s Newsday, “Well, I know one thing: Mike’s not going to be the problem. Let’s put it that way.” There’s no possible way this ends well, right? Imagine if the Knicks did Steph like the Blazers did Darius Miles and just paid him to stay away from the team until his contract ran out. After that, since we can’t think of any team that would take a chance on him, Steph can go play in Italy like he’s talked about in the past … Did you see Kobe’s “SportsCenter” interview with Stephen A. Smith yesterday? Kobe talked about how he’s been able to “instill my DNA into the rest of the team.” Feel free to make your own jokes … We’re out like Horry …

  14. rangerjohn says:

    thomas and finley comeback and horry go home. i have no issue with those 2 guys, thomas is a perfect fit for the spurs for 20 minutes a game. he and finley can come back for the vet minimum, but horry needs to hang it up. he SAYS he will not play for any other team but that sounds like a shaq comment if i ever heard one. he will get nothing more then the vet minimum also where ever he goes and he will mess with what ever teams rotation in the end as well. send him to the lakers lmao so he can mess up their rotation lmao.

    there are a ton of places to start for the spurs, they just have to get started early.

  15. Ross says:

    The Pistons and the Spurs were the only teams I wanted to see in the playoffs. This season’s over, for me.

  16. 92021SpurMD says:

    I’m telling ya, the Spurs need an atheletic guy to play PF/C, and he doesn’t even have to be so tall cause Timmy has the height. Someone who’s strong but can gaurd the perimeter, enter JOEY DORSEY!! Imagine if they had this dude catching alleys, cutting the lane and being able to finish strong, straight beasting on the off. boards, and being the “out of nowhere, weakside block” threat! It’s truely what the Spurs are missing.

    They have a late pick, but don’t imagine anyone before them picking him up. Pop needs to suck it up for a year.

  17. jimmhumm says:

    If I was Miami I’d take beasley and go for a trade. It’s good to save money for the future.

  18. sans says:

    Ross–who the hell are you and what planet are you from? Pistons/Spurs happened already, and it wasn’t anything pretty.

    If anyone passes on Beastly they should be fired out of a cannon into a shark tank just to represent how foolish and reckless they are with the future of their franchise. Also, I really don’t think OJ is going to do anything that great in the L, especially as a gunning point guard. Maybe as a 2, but Mayo isn’t a facilitating player at any level. He can score though, can’t take that away from him.

    Whoever gets Kostas Koufos is getting the steal of this draft. Unless Dorsey eats people alive as a rook of course.

  19. Brian Shawtime says:

    KB24 jacked off his DNA all over Bruce Bowen’s face during the western conference finals. And Bowen ended up swallowing…his pride. Go Lakers ! Go Kobe! King Kong ain’t got shyt on you!

  20. YOUNGFED says:

    Here’s what the Pistons should do trade Sheed and Amir Johnson to Bulls for their #1 Pick and some cash. Then take B-EAZY @ #1. it could work. This is the Rumor floating aroud Detroit. The other is Sheed and our pick for elton Brand.

  21. Austin Burton says:

    Why would Chicago want Rasheed Wallace or Amir Johnson?

  22. Chuck...Haters come in all fashions and forms so bear arms says:

    @Youngfed
    Yeah? Right! LOL!!
    Come on fed, that trade don’t even make sense, and I ain’t just trying to side wit Austin on that one either. The only thing attractive about Sheed IS his expiring contract, dude is a cancer, and Amir Johnson is just PROMISING at best. That’s a horrible trade.

  23. rangerjohn says:

    i dont see chi-town taking anything from the pistons after the ben wallace MISTAKE! i know they didnt trade for him but chicago doesnt want piston seconds anymore.

  24. rangerjohn says:

    and the PERFECT fit IMO for the spurs, josh smith. think about this, smith has a 3.2 million dollar qualifying offer on the table, the spurs could offer him at worst a 5.8 mil exception then turn around and resign him for somewhere in the 8-10 million a year range for 5 more yrs. that is about as good as he is going to see, i dont see him getting a max deal anywhere unless he gets sucker like orlando was for rashard.

    duncan and smith down low with any combo of mahinmi and who ever and it is down o nthe inside, then we just need to adress the backup/starter for manu and the point guard and the spurs still have money left after signing smith like this.

  25. MoxWestCoastRep says:

    Wow I just about to say that AB. No way in hell the Bills trade that pick for sheed and Johnson or anything else the pistons got.
    As a Laker fan I hope the Spurs don’t get what they need, namely younger in the front court. They are set with Manu and Tony Longoria for a while tho

  26. Chuck...Haters come in all fashions and forms so bear arms says:

    @sas

    I wish people would stop throwing Mayo under the bus. Saying what he would or wouldn’t be. Point Blank. Kobe wasn’t a lot of things when he first came in the league. He wasn’t a good defender, and he certainly wasn’t the dynamic scorer he is today. He was the rookie he shot airballs! BUT, Kobe had the desire to succeed, and if Mayo has that, he’ll be nice, if he doesn’t he’ll be garbage. Hopefully the young buck won’t come in with that, me, me, me attitude, and I think he’ll be straight even as a pg, with the right coach, the right coach we’ll Teach dude to be a facilitator. Just think If Pop, or phil Jackson got a hold of that young buck. Look waht Larry Brown did to Billups?

  27. Chuck...Haters come in all fashions and forms so bear arms says:

    @rangerjohn

    You are smoking some serious drugs if you think Atlanta isn’t giving Josh Smith a max contract. That’s almost as ridiculous as my acute angle statement! LMAO!!

    Josh Smith is not going to the Spurs, you will just have to keep dreaming on that one ranger.

  28. rodnets says:

    Kobe puts his DNA in his companions, Is that a way of saying don´t f*** it up or I f*** you up more?

    Saying that Vujacic nickname “Machine” will be the Kobe role like that one in 8mm film??? lmao

    Isaiah cannot coach, give him a place in the WNBA Detroit organization with Bill Lambieer, like marketing or assistant coach or something, he knows how to deal with ladies

    i have evidence that seth sammons got a large load of kobe’s DNA in his mouth (running down his chin) and around his anus-hole.

  30. karizmatic says:

    For the Spurs I like Kurt Thomas too, but Horry definitely needs to be let go, I also think that Finley should probably be let go to clear up some slary cap space and make room for a younger player.

  31. Chuck...Haters come in all fashions and forms so bear arms says:

    @rangerjohn and Karizmatic

    I agree with you guys, I like Thomas and Finley, but that Horry? He is done son!! stick a fork in him!!

    If Timmy wanted to win REALLY bad, he would have taken less than 20 mil a year. Even with San an having all those expiring contracts, San Antonio will still be over the cap, and will end up paying a luxury tax for whoever they sign. The cap is currently 55.630 mil and the spurs are clockin in over 70 mil. Manu, Parker and Tim and Bowen make up 44 mil alone! So to be honest, San an doesn’t have millions of dollars in cap space sitting around like Charlotte and Memphis to even sign a Josh Smith. It will be interesting to see what they do?

  32. rangerjohn says:

    chuck, damn man it is to early on monday morning to be blowing up my dreams man! lma
    acute angle GOOD ONE! lmao

    karizmatic
    finley is unrestricted for the next season, the cap space is clear, i like finley really, i dont like him as a starter, but hell he plays well for about 10-15 minutes (like barry does) and for a vet minimum of 1.2 mil the spurs are still about 12 mil under the tax.
    i was reading the spurs may actually take on some 1 yr contracts and play it out and see what happens not trying to shake up to much because they have HUGE space coming up in the near future and the free agent cast is MUCH BETTER.

  33. JOROSS says:

    Ay tama ka day!bonggang bongga sina wade,rose,marion,si papa haslem at don boozer..sausage galore.ayyyy

  34. rangerjohn says:

    sorry chuck you are off on this one, the current cap is 55.6 BUT the tax doesnt kick in until 70.1 mil next season (or somewhere there abouts.) see the nba has a “SOFT CAP” and teams generally dont pay tax. only teams like the mavs, the knicks pay much. only 10 teams paid this season, and the spurs are going to drop to 53 mil giving them about 17 mil with exceptions before paying taxes.

  35. Austin Burton says:

    @Chuck — The Hawks just hired Rick Sund as their GM. There’s no telling what he’ll do.

  36. YOUNGFED says:

    @Austin actually the rumor was Sheed and Rip and our pick for Chicagos #1, but I thought that was too much for an unproven player.

    @Chuck
    Would you say that Sheed is better than Durant? If so how is this trade horrible if B-Eazy is really just another version of Durant.

    AND CAN WE PUH-LEEEAAASSSEEE STOP TALKING ABOUT KOBE’S DNA. GOT DAYUUUMMM!!!

  37. YOUNGFED says:

    @Austin B.
    I almost forgot what do you think about Lambo for the Pistons coach. Holla!!

  38. rangerjohn says:

    young, while sheed has aspects of his game that are better then durant or beasley, most people take either one over sheed easy. he is not a spring chicken, and has to many “issues” i guess you could say. his game is falling off (not as much as others his age) but he relies to much on his outside shot and doesnt want to get in and do the dirty work.

    future baby, nobody wants crazy ass sheed in place of some good youth.

  39. Austin Burton says:

    1. Durant is better than Sheed and his upside makes him infinitely more valuable. Sheed is just about done.

    2. Laimbeer’s proven he can coach X’s and O’s, but I don’t know how he’ll get along with players. He already ran Swin Cash out of town and humiliated her in the process; he seems to be real Scott Skiles-ish in that whole “relating to players” aspect.

  40. rangerjohn says:

    lol austin,
    i wa thinking something along the same lines, is laimbeer going to fight sheed when sheed shoots lifthanded half court shots with 5 seconds left in a quarter?

  41. YOUNGFED says:

    @RangerJ
    Mark my words Sheed is hot on the Market now. Watch the next two months closely Joey D aka “The Ring Master” is about to shake things up.

    FEDrodomus (lol) has Spoken

    @Austin
    1.) Durant is not better than Sheed right now (one on one or team oriented wise), but you are right about his upside.

    2.)I think the players need someone like Lambo, someone they respect a proven winner in everything he’s done, A LEGEND. His hard nosed attitude is exactly what we need. That’s why I think he’s perfect for us but no one is even mentioning him as our future coach and I find that disrespectful. Thats all I saying. Not even in our local papers is his name mentioned.

  42. Chuck...Haters come in all fashions and forms so bear arms says:

    @rangerjohn
    I thought the soft cap was lower than that? In that case, yeah you right. And they are in a good spot as long as finley and Thomas agree to the vet minimum.

    @YoungFed
    Austin and Rangerjohn said it all homie.

  43. rangerjohn says:

    sheed might be “hot on the market” for the pistons but the rest of the league only like one thing from him, his 13 mil going off the books after next season.

  44. rangerjohn says:

    chuck, yeah the soft cap has gone up every year, and from what i read it is going to be just over 70 mil.

    no way either guy signs for more then the vet minimum just like barry did. vet minimum for both those guys will be 1.26 next year. i dont mind either guy and i would much rather have thomaas then oberto for 1 simple fact, HE GRABS REBOUNDS, i am so tired of the “argentine tip out”. go up, grab a damn board and then pass it out if you need to.

  45. Chuck...Haters come in all fashions and forms so bear arms says:

    @YoungFed

    Did you take your meds this morning man?
    Ballz coming at you this morning must have you distracted? LOL!!!

    Post 41 is wwaaayyy off
    Durant averages 20 on 43 perceny shooting
    Sheed averages 12.7 on 43 percent shooting
    Durant has a higher free throw percentage and they play about the same amount of minutes
    and big soft sheed only averages 6.6 rebounds at 6′11.
    NO WAY is Sheed better than Durant, not to mention sheed is older than dirt and Durant is still sipping from the fountain of youth.

  46. Austin Burton says:

    If the Spurs could afford him, would Antawn Jamison be a good fit? And while he’s not an All-Star or anything, Josh Childress could do some things for them.

  47. Chuck...Haters come in all fashions and forms so bear arms says:

    @rangerjohn

    this is a just because question.

    The vet min isn’t any kind of exception is it?

    Say Dallas wanted to sign someone, because they are over the hard and soft cap, they would still pay 2.6 mil for a 1.3 mil signing right? unless they have like a bi annual exception or bird rights or something right?

  48. rangerjohn says:

    austin, the only nock of jamison is his defense, the spurs lost a ton of defense this year compaired to past yrs (age of horry, no inside presance like nazr or rasho, or even elson) and then finley and barry are well lets just says “D” challeneged. i like jamison though, he provides the scoring they need and more youth. i am not sold on childress really. maybe it is the fro?

  49. rangerjohn says:

    chuck,
    i think the only thing could be the bi annual exception. i think the only way the vet signing is an exception is if the vet is from their own team (ie finley coming back to the spurs).
    i am not sure about bird rights, i need to read up on them

  50. Chuck...Haters come in all fashions and forms so bear arms says:

    @Austin

    The only thing I hate about Josh Childress is he can’t shoot. I know his numbers speak very different from my statement.His form is jacked up, just like shawn Marion, and it bothers me that he hasn’t at least TRIED to fix that crappy looking J. Josh would be good off th bench for the Spurs though, and Jamison wouldn’t sign with the Spurs because he possibly wouldn’t start.

  51. rangerjohn says:

    http://www.sportscity.com/NBA/Salary-Cap

    The Larry Bird exception - ‘The Bird’ exception allows teams to exceed the salary cap to resign its own free agents, at an amount up to the maximum salary, and up to six years in length.

    Early Bird exception - Free agents qualify after playing two seasons without being waived or changed teams as a free agent. A team may sign its own free agents for either the NBA’s average salary or 175% of his previous years salary, which ever is greater.

    Non-Bird exception - Allows teams to re-sign players to contract as long as 6 years and worth 120% of his past season salary or 120% of the league minimum which ever amount is greater.

  52. Chuck...Haters come in all fashions and forms so bear arms says:

    @YoungFed
    I will give you that Sheed is better than Durant at the defensive end of the floor. But Durant is still a rookie and that just comes with time.

  53. YOUNGFED says:

    @Chuck
    If Sheed played on the sonics as their only scoring option he’d do 20 and 10 eeeeaaaasssssyyyy.

  54. jamesagee says:

    Everybody loves Joe Dumars. And he is a great GM, but he made a mistake keeping Sheed around. After last years meltdown, and the fact that everyone in Detroit knew that he didn’t listen to-or just flat out ignored- Flip he should have been dealt. There’s alot of people out there who talk about how talented he is but it’s talent wasted, because he lacks the mindset for professional basketball. Too much complaining, his on and off attention to defense, etc. We wouldn’t have won our title without him, but we also lost one because of him (Robert Horry incident). There is no way in Hell that Durant is going anywhere, that shit is fantasy. We’d be better off talking about trading Sheed for a unicorn.

  55. Myrie says:

    Like MJ in ‘95…I’M BACK!!

    For many months (at least the past 2 seasons) I’ve been on here mentioning that the Pistons need to shake things up. They are not motivated any more. They are too good to lose early, but not good enough (or self driven) enough to get the Finals again and win it. The coach isn’t the problem in Detroit. It’s the players. They have been content and they are getting slow. Chauncey Billups will still give you the business, but I haven’t seen him run a fast break since he got to Detroit. They need to speed up the tempo on offense.

    They need to make a trade for a veteran in their prime. I mentioned Tracy McGrady awhile ago going to Detroit. …and most of you on here snapped. But Tracy McGrady and Shane Battier to Detroit for Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince would be a good move. Niether team loses anything, but just in sheer change, they’d both be better.

    As for San Antonio, they need a major overhaul. They are not terrible, but THEY were a Tim Duncan 3ptr away from being bounced in the 1st round.

    They need a legit backup point guard. See Ginobli run the point when Tony Parker sat out was comical. How about they make a move for Chris Duhon in Chicago? Also, their biggest weakness is rebounding. They need a solid rebounder. They cannot expect poor Timmy to be the only one hitting the boards next season. He was averagin like 15 rebs per game, and they were still getting blown out in all their losses. How about getting Nick Collison or maybe Chris Wilcox from Seattle….err….Oklahoma City Sonics?

    …And they need to finally take a risk/gamble. They can afford to do so. An athletic wing player would be a solid fit for them. Hows about making a run at Corey Maggette? And then…add a YOUNGER shooter. So long farewell to Brent Barry, Robert Horry and Michael Finley. Make a splash for JJ Redick.

    Imagine the Spurs with these new additions:

    Corey Maggette, Chris Duhon, JJ Redick and Nick Collison?
    Not a championship squad you say huh?….
    That Spurs team would win 58 games next season

  56. garbageman33 says:

    So Pat Riley didn’t like Beasley’s shenanigans at the pre-draft camp? I guess that means he wouldn’t want Dwight Howard or Lebron on his team either. I mean, did you see the youtube clip where they were dancing with Shaq? Slick Riley doesn’t put up with that kind of nonsense.

  57. Big Freeze says:

    There is no way in hell Pat Riley will pass on Beasley. Get real. It’s the draft. Teams talk all kinds of bullshit to throw other teams off and get trade bait.

  58. rangerjohn says:

    @myrie
    yo uare kidding right, your saying the suns would have taken the spurs down if duncan didnt hit htta 3, your nuts the spurs hadled the suns except one game. (4-1) so timmy misses, the series ends in 6 instead of 5.

    collison NO WAY, redick? NO WAY NO WAY! wilcox would not be a bad fit, and corey has been discoused already. even if the spurs where to try, he turned down 8 mil a year already, he would not be getting more fro mthe spurs.
    duhan is ok but he is pretty streaky, and he doesnt like the “backup role”

    and while finley and horry are done (for now) barry has a deal next season and cant be traded or released unless he agrees to it.

  59. Myrie says:

    Rangerjohn–

    We know your’re a diehard Spurs fan. But that doesn’t mean you cannot take some suggestions. If the Spurs lose game 1 (at home) against Phoenix, no one can say the Suns would have won the series, but we can all agree that it would indeed have been a DIFFERENT series.

    As for the names I mentioned coming over to the Spurs, its no so much about the players as it is about what is needed.

    A rebounder, an athletic wing player/scorer, backup point guard and a younger shooter. Insert whichever players you seem fit. But nonetheless, those are the holes the Spurs need to fill.

    What changes additions/subtractions would you like to see take place in San An?

  60. Chuck...Haters come in all fashions and forms so bear arms says:

    @Myrie

    I may have to agree with rangerjohn on this one. No JJ cause he plays no defense and pop’s system is predicated on defense. Collison (Maybe) And the Suns don’t play enough D to beat a San Antonio or any top team in the west for that matter in a 7 game series. That run and gun crap won’t beat any legit defensive minded oriented squad, even golden state couldn’t pull that magic trick off, they got bounced by utah in the 2nd last year (no defense), so there was no way phoenix was winning that series.
    Wilcox believes he’s better than he actually is, he has that American Idol syndrome, so rangerjohn is right on that one too. Dude wants too much money. And Duhon is just garbage. I would only sign him if I can get him for a swap meat price.

  61. YOUNGFED says:

    @Myrie
    Sorry but we don’t want broken down azz T-mac, next you’ll be talking about vince carter or something. Hellz NO.

    List of players I’d like to see the Pistons go after.
    1.)Elton Brand
    2.)Josh Smith
    3.)Jason Richardson
    4.)Allen Iverson
    5.)Melo
    6.)Al Jefferson
    7.)Nate Robinson
    8.)Zach Randolph
    9.)Gerald Wallace
    10.)Youngfed (lol)

  62. Chuck...Haters come in all fashions and forms so bear arms says:

    @Myrie and rangerjohn
    If possible -Emaka Okafer (he would have to realize that he’s NOT worth a max contract.)rangerjohn you mentioned him last week
    Ben Gordon creates off the dribble pretty well, but he doesn’t play D, and he cries too much, but he has the talent for pop to work with him. He must also realize he’s NOT worth a max contract
    Matt Barnes- Real tough dude, I like his game. I think he would be a nice backup to bruce
    J.R smith would be a nice addition if he could keep his attitude in check, he would be a better and younger Micheal Finley
    There are many additions the Spurs could make as far as free agents, it’s just getting these young guys to actually see their value. They believe they are worth more than they are worth and that’s the biggest problem

  63. Chuck...Haters come in all fashions and forms so bear arms says:

    @Youngfed
    Al jefferson (no chance)
    Zach Randolph (???????WHY??????)
    Nate Robinson (??????WHYWHYWHY??????)
    (Gerald Wallace (No chance)
    Jason Richardson (No chance)
    Youngfed (I didn’t know ballboy’s can sign for guaranteed money?) LOL!!!!
    Josh Smith, Elton brand and A.I you could get
    Josh smith and Elton brand are free agents and A.I is in the last year of his contract, but why would you want A.I? He’s older than dirt. His career is about over and ain’t no way in hell you gettin Melo!

  64. rodnets says:

    The Oberto experiment failed. They left Scola go to the Rockets. They need someone tough defensively oriented inside like Jason Maxiel who can help Tim beefing everybody.

    I would bring Andres Nocioni from the Bulls, but just to see what he and Manu can do.

    Peace

  65. YOUNGFED says:

    @Chuck
    I think wherever J.R. goes he should start his time is now. FEDrodomus predicts……he will have a breakout season next year.

  66. rell says:

    @Myrie

    I agree that the Spurs need to take a splash but I doubt they will do it. They could have kept Scola but traded him away because they felt he wouldn’t fit the team because of his personality.

    I think if they going to make a trade and forget the character issue I would go after Ron Artest. I would trade Vaughn, Udoka, Oberto, and a draft pick for Artest. Since Sacromento want to get rid of him, this give thim both Vaughn and Udoka expiring contact and a low draft pick for him.

    This would give the Spurs a lineup of Parker, Bowen at the 2, Artest at the 3, resign Kurt Thomas at the 4, and Duncan at the 5. Then I would resign Finley and try to use my mid-level on Bedrins or Diop and use the biannual exception (if they still have it) on a point guard. Then my bench would be Finley, Ginoboli, Barry, Bederins/Diop, and a backup point guard(Bokins, Salim Stoudamire, Juwan Dixon,etc.).

  67. YOUNGFED says:

    I not asking for long term from AI but if we had him instead of billups we’d be in the finals now. Zach is better than Sheed normally. And Nate is on the verge of his coming out party. The latter is another FEDrodomus prediction.

  68. Chuck...Haters come in all fashions and forms so bear arms says:

    @rell
    I like I like…

    But Pop would never sign Artest. Too uncrontrollable. That’s more realistic than half the scenarios thus far though and that would be a tough sqaud to beat.

  69. rangerjohn says:

    the 2 biggest “names” i would care to see, brand or josh smith but smith would have to leave atl and turn down the qualifying offer, and brand still has not opted out of his 16 mil, honestly i dont expect he will, where else is going to make 16 mil next season?

    i like the artest talk, he reminds me of rodman with more d and less rebounding, i expect he will show up to training camp in a dress lmao.

    there is talk of mike pitrus (sp?) from GS he is a very good friend of parkers, and there is talk of del fino who is a very good friend of manu. i dont mind either guy. the spurs will not make a huge splash this year, like i said before they want to sit for a yr or 2 to get the big money and more “names” will be freeagents. the pool this yr is about as shallow and kobes dna gyne pool lmao nothing left he gave it all to his team.

  70. yallallreadyknow says:

    chuck

    are you kidding? spurs getting ron artest is more realistic? are you KIDDING homey?

    ron artest is the LAST player on EARTH the spurs would ever consider

    you have no credibility if you cosign on rells nonesense

  71. Chuck...Haters come in all fashions and forms so bear arms says:

    @yallallreadyknow
    come on homie? Look Ron-Ron is a defensive oriented player.
    What does pop love? Defense
    And if you look at my post I did throw the disclaimer in there saying Artest was too uncontrollable. So I’m not saying such a trade would occur but look at the Memphis and Lakers trade.
    Nothing is impossible these days?

  72. rell says:

    @yallallreadyknow

    If you read my comment, I said it most likely would not happen for the same reason they didn’t sign Scola. But if you going to make a splash for a person who have only 1 year left on their contract and you could lose thee remaining of Oberto contract, why not. You are only taken a 1 year gamble and you would have 8million off the books the following year.

  73. rangerjohn says:

    from the sounds of some of these things lets just ruin the spurs completely, lets trade duncan for dirk, manu for hmmmm josh howard, parker for beno udrih, bowen for ben wallace, and oberto for dennis rodman. how about that starting 5?

    rodman, udrih, dirk, j howard, and ben wallace. the spurs would be a pot smoking, dress wearing, “alergy kickin my ass” soft, softy soft team. the league would LOVE THAT, then we could keep finley and horry, and sign that autistic kid that hit like 10 3 pointers in that highschool game a couple yrs ago.

    GO SPURS GO
    spurs in 4 every round every year!

  74. 92021SpurMD says:

    Looking at it closely, the Spurs could get lucky (atheletically) if they pay attention. This draft is pretty loaded, so much so that they could get lucky and draft Mario Chalmers and get Dorsey in the second round.

    Josh Smith would be insane to not take a good deal from SA, and Sund would be stupid enough to let him go…

    If I were POP and P. Holt, i’d try for that!

  75. rangerjohn says:

    rell
    the spurs didnt sign scola for 2 reasons, 1st he plays the same spots o nthe floor as duncan and would conflict with duncan or play back up to him and that is not what they needed, and 2nd (and most important) CAP SPACE, see they would have had to pay off his euro team almost 3 mil (which would have counted toward the cap) on top of his rookie contract. i dont like them giving him to the rockets for NOTHING but hey they are under the cap and they felt like they where wasting him no mater what happens so give the kid a chance to make his mark on the nba.

  76. Chuck...Haters come in all fashions and forms so bear arms says:

    @rangerjohn
    I would trade duncan for Richard Jefferson, sign sprewell and ricky davis, trade manu for ben gordon, deng and Noah, and bowen for Artest, then we would haev a team that chokes the crap outta all opponents, shoots shots at his own basket for points and triple doubles, they’d be greedy and all want max contracts and smoke weed err-day, and Artest would tech em how to beat they girl friends and beat the crap outta fans. They’d have the best attendance in the league, it would be like the Howard stern show. We gotta throw stephen Jackson in, just to shoot at the opposing team in case they lose! LOL!!!

    BREAKING NEWS:

    TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - “NASA’s new robot on Mars has reached out and touched the soil for the first time, leaving behind a striking footprint-like impression, scientists said Sunday.
    The Phoenix Mars Lander’s robotic arm was making a test run, just one week after its landing. The spacecraft, which is also its own laboratory, will soon start scooping up soil and ice and running tests on it.

    “This first touch allows us to utilize the robotic arm accurately,” said David Spencer, Phoenix’s surface mission manager at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif.

    “We are in a good situation” for the future testing, he said.

    NASA on Saturday showed sharp images of what appeared to be ice exposed under the lander. The mission’s main goal is to test ice for evidence of organic compounds that are the chemical building blocks of life.

    The University of Arizona in Tucson is leading and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory is managing the three-month scientific mission.”

    GOT DAAYYYUUUMMMM!!! MUST BE 2 SIDES.

  78. rangerjohn says:

    lmao this can gt real old

    i have a great idea, release every player on the team, and sign every player from the 72 win bulls, that team i am sure has to still be good for 50 wins right?

  79. Chuck...Haters come in all fashions and forms so bear arms says:

    @rangerjohn
    we would also bring Magic outta retirement. If Kobe is using his DNA to make his team better, we can use magics to make the other team worse. LOL!!
    I know that was a low blow but I couldn’t resist. LOL!!

  80. yallallreadyknow says:

    spurs don’t need defense. they need OFFENSE. they already have enough defense to win their division.

    them bums scored LESS than 85 points 5 times in the two series against the hornets/lakers. and under 80pts twice!!

    defense aint the problem. its offense. hence, they dont need ron artest you fools. they need young legs that can fill the lane and finish the break (only tony paker knows the meaning of fast break in san an).

    they are better off trying to get corey maggette (who also gets to the FT line A LOT) than they are wasating time trying to experi-RENT with ron artest.

    you fools ( rell and chuck ) know nothing about putting a team together.

  81. rell says:

    @rangerjohn

    I can see why the spurs didn’t sign him because of the luxury tax, but they could have let Oberto walk and sign Scola instead. Scola is younger and better version of Scola. Also, this was before they traded for Kirk Thomas so they could have use him. I could be mistaken but isn’t Scola and Oberto games similar. If so this wouldn’t be a conflict for him and Duncan to play together.

  82. Chuck...Haters come in all fashions and forms so bear arms says:

    @yallallreadyknow

    well, that intelligent inspiring wisdom you have blessed us with sounds like GM material to me!! Let’s get yo an expansion team and watch this team blossom from 0 to 82 wins 2 years tops!!(sarcasm, sarcasm, sarcasm!!!)
    I only suggested Artest, because Pop loves defense. Yo aren’t the Coach of the Spurs dumb a*s, so I doubt he agrees with your philospophy, Duncan is the focal point of their offense wo why the f*ck would they wanna run dumb sh*t. D*mn you made me break my no cursing rule. foolish m*thaf*cka, go finish drinking Kobe’s DNA stupid!

  83. rangerjohn says:

    scola and oberto are similar but oberto is a little bigger and plays the center spot, scola cant pla ythe center spot really.
    oberto signed a contract extension for like 2 yrs after th title last yr but oberto is not making as much money as it would have cost the spurs and cap space was a huge factor. the spurs also traded elson and barry for thomas and that actualy brought the cap space down about $200,000 after re-signing barry.

    dont get me wrong i would like to have scola but the money was a huge factor. same problem with splitter now, he can make more money in europe so he is staying there.
    the spurs have mahinmi who is actually progressing very well and should be a solid inside player next season, not to mention he is only 21, and he is already under contract.

  84. Chuck...Haters come in all fashions and forms so bear arms says:

    Okay the normal chuck is back! LOL!!
    The Spurs aren’t really a transition team, Duncan is what makes the Spurs offense run. Perimeter shooting is what makes their offense run, and defense also. See the problem with putting a maggette in , is that you trade defense for offense, because he can’t and WON’T defend to save his life. Pop didn’t play Parker the first few years because 1. he couldn’t shoot very well and 2. He was a worst defender than he is now. So I doubt pop will sign a maggette before he signs an artest. Artest can score, defends very well and rebounds. Maggette, just??? Scores. So, if you all like one dimensional players, maggette is fine, but if you want someone who can get on the floor and do multiple things at once then Artest, dude is a headcase no doubt about that, but….

    low level disrepect. re-read your post and see how fuckin stupid you sound.

    no apology necessay….just bask in your own foolishness.

  87. rell says:

    @yallallreadyknow

    Maggette is not a major offensive upgrade from Artest. They score almost the same amount of points and both are the same age. Maggette get to the line more than Artest but Artest can shut a person down. Imagine Kobe having to deal with Artest and Bowen on the defensive end. Then when Ginoboli come in along with Artest he can’t just slack on defense because both Artest and Ginoboli will make him work.

    The only way the Spurs can get Maggette is if he goes for the mid-level exception. Personally I think Maggette will get a few million more than that. I thinks the Spurs can get Artest for peanuts while Maggette will have to lose millions to sign with the Spurs. I think Maggette will rather sign back with the Clippers for more money than to take less money and sign somewhere else.

  88. Chuck...Haters come in all fashions and forms so bear arms says:

    rodnets

    rell
    shit man no artest for me and i rather keep udoka than bowen

    but the spurs are doin minor things
    the big changes come after next season

  98. Myrie says:

    YOUNGFED—

    It’s pretty clear that the Detroit Pistons need to make some changes; albeit minor ones.
    But here is a major shakeup….let me know what you think of this scenario that is being talked about:

    Pistons trade Richard Hamilton and Rasheed Wallace to Charlotte Bobcats for Emeka Okafur and Jason Richardson?

    For Charlotte:
    Larry Brown is in town to coach kids…but Michael Jordan needs to put a winner on the court. Its been long enough in Charlotte and that ‘building thru the draft’ shit hasn’t worked for them. They need to add some vets that LB would like; and he coached Rip and ‘Sheed to a chip in 2004.

    For Detroit:
    They get their new perimeter offensive player in Jason Richardson. He will still give you the same points rip gives, and he’s younger with more athleticism. Pistons still pick up Okafor; a low post defensive presence. Emeka Okafor, coupled with Amir Johnson, Jason Maxiell, Antonio McDyess still gives Detroit and solid frontline into their future—they don’t have much of a future right now.

    Starting lineups could look like this:

    BOBCATS
    Raymond Felton
    Richard Hamilton
    Gerald Wallace
    Rasheed Wallace
    Nazr Mohammed

    PISTONS
    Chauncey Billups
    Jason Richadson
    Tayshaun Prince
    Antonio McDyess
    Emeka Okafor

    Balanced enough?

  99. Ian says:

    the bobcats wouldnt go for that

  100. Ian says:

    and youngfed if u had ai instead of billups u would lose at the start of the playoffs

  101. GEE...Wicky wicky wicky wicky says:

    Just to go 101.

    Chuck dug in dude deep lol.

    Billups over A.I. all day.

    Detroit should most def. ship Sheed.

    Horry needs to call it quits, but for some reason I feel like he still waiting on another moment in time and then leave. I doubt it will happen again, he should bow out gracefully.

  102. YOUNGFED says:

    @Myrie I would definetly love for that trade to happen plus J Rich would bring that much needed excitement the Pistons need. But Rip and Billups have already stated they’re like brothers so if one goes I think the other would definetly leave.
