The Wizards’ Andray Blatche is in trouble … again. Add this to the list that also includes being shot during an attempted carjacking and alleged sexual solicitation charges over the last few years.
Blatche definitely has promise - the guy is 7-feet tall, can run, jump and pass - but at some point, probably very soon, the Wizards might have to just part ways.

This was really depressing to hear. It’s not like he is 18 anymore - the guy is a 22 year old man.
This kid makes some pretty dumb decisions - like soliciting a prostitute and speeding/driving with a suspended license.
I mean really, if you are an NBA millionare you probably don’t need to pay some dirty whore to get some. And speeding is one thing but dude…your license is SUSPENDED.
This kid is on the Gerald Green express.

I agree that you hold him accountable. But really, hold him accountable for being the victim of an attempted car jacking too….the nerve of that guy. hahahaa

Something about this guy reminds me of Eddie Griffin. I wouldn’t be surprised if this guy gets depressed, hits the drugs/booze too hard, and kills himself (or gets himself killed).

JA, Eddie Griffin (RIP) had a SERIOUS drinking problem that he couldn’t get under control. This dude’s on more of a Kwame Brown (immaturity/not ready for this stage)/Pacman Jones path. At least Eddie couldn’t control his issues. This is just wreckless, poor judgement.
BTW, we ALL drive 80, so that’s nothing as far as I’m concerned. Driving on a suspended license on the other hand is just plain dumb. Dude’s got the $ to just pay someone (or make his buddy) drive him around.
Between him and the Kwame Brown saga (check out this old story http://www.czabe.com/backup/vol11_apr22/Growing%20Pains%20(washingtonpost_com).htm) there’s a pretty clear reason for the age limit besides the obvious having to wait years for them to develop/contribute.

With those commonwealth laws they ready to lock ur ass up for littering. This shouldn’t even be an issue. Jerry Jones would pay for Pacman to have this guys screw ups. Speeding??? and he aint kill anybody if thas ground to give up on a 15 million dollar investment this country needs to be bombed on

i’ve been caught speeding 98 in a 65 on I-95 in that part of Virginia (several years ago) and let me tell you, the court system there is like the one from My Cousin Vinny. no joke. that shit is real! i barely got out without having to go to jail. but another kid with the same offense did go to jail that day. you are really at the mercy of the judge on this stuff.
anyway, this bonehead has been caught with a suspended license THREE times!! 3 times!! he’s a moron. plain and simple.

@Dime
I am a huge Wiz fan and there is NO chance they will part ways due to this incident. After he showed flashes of brilliance last year (read; 28/8/4 vs. the Sixers in 29 min)he will have to do far worse to not get another shot this year. If he does not fulfill his potential within the next few years, then yea, he’ll be gone. Remember, the Wiz just locked him up for 5 years at 3Mil/Year. If he can fulfill even half his potential he will be a steal.

@DT — I just want a Wizards fan’s opinion, what do you think of Blatche’s game? Is he going to be as good as they think he can be?
Also, what’s your opinion on the Arenas/Jamison free agent situation?

Austin,
He has crazy potential and shows flashes of being an All-Star. At almost 7 feet, he has a solid handle, is a naturally gifted passer, and a talented shot blocker at times. The first 2/3’s of this season he was great as the Wiz’s only backup center, with Etan out all season with his heart condition. He looked like he had turned the corner by midseason but managed to regress with a pathetic March.
A promising sign was that he played much better when he had the opportunity to start w/ 11.5pts and 8.1 boards/game in 15 starts compared with 6.7 and 4.5 as a reserve. His PER has steadily increased each year in the league and he was the youngest player on the Wiz this past year at 21.
On the down side he is not the brightest guy as evidenced by his off-court troubles and his high foul rate. His lack of focus and inability to convert on a consistent basis around the rim kill him. He needs to get stronger and gain maturity to improve.
Overall, for what he is, a 22 year old second round pick with 3 years experience in the League, he has lived up to expectations. With what he has shown, the Wiz have to give him more time to develop, especially at 3 Mil/year. Worst case, he’s a very tradeable asset in a few years. Best case, he is a borderline All Star who can play the 3,4 or 5 and handle the rock a bit.
In my opinion as a glass half full guy, I think he will be a solid contributer next year (12/7/3/1) if he can stay out of trouble. My best case projection for his career is being able to average around 18pts 8 rebs 4 dimes and 2 blocks per game. Worst case he is out of the league in 5 years due to stupidity. But we all know the L is all about potential so for the time being Andray will have a home in D.C.
I think the Wiz have to keep Gil and AJ around but for the right price. I’m thinking 3-4 years for AJ starting at ~10 million per, with Gilbert getting his 6 year deal starting as 12-14 mil (As long as his knee is progressing). The core they have has shown flashes and Caron is peaking as a top 3 small forward in the L. Jamison is better then ever and has at least 3 more great years left. He is also a vital leader along with Butler and AD to an otherwise immature, young team.
If Gil returns to near pre-injury form, and matures into more of an all around PG, ala Chauncey Billups, I feel the Wiz are only an impact big man (Andray?) away from competing in the East. Nick Young will be an offensive star sooner the later and DeShawn, for a much hate as he gets, had his best season to date. If Andray steps up into the semi-dominant big man the Wiz need to pair with Haywood (who also had his best year and solidified himself as an starter quality C), the Wiz could do big things. If not, they’ll still be the most fun team in the league, and the only team with Stewie Griffin (Oleksiy Pecherov) http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2204/1593720648_496b2cfe5b.jpg on their roster.

That dude must have some lame ass game that alone puts him in “DUMB ASS” status. As far as the speeding that is not a big deal. Him getting carjack and shot that is just by chance but you know how the media and middle america is when a blackman gets shot it is always his fault no matter what(RIP SEAN BELL)but I don’t see the wizards giving up on him yet
