Trade Rumor: ‘Melo for Billups

MannionThis morning rumors broke that the Pistons and Nuggets were discussing a deal that would send ‘Melo, Marcus Camby, Kenyon Martin and Chucky Atkins to the Pistons for Chauncey, Rasheed, Tayshaun and a 1st round pick. This rumor though apparently came from Woody Paige. If you’ve ever caught his act on any of the various ESPN shows he frequently pops up on to scream nonsense at you and everyone in the studio, you’re probably right to take it for what it is.
Technically, it does make sense though. The Pistons would definitely shake things up like Joe Dumars has threatened to do, but we’re not sure they’d really improve as a team. The deal seems to be a little lopsided in the Nuggets’ favor – a Chauncey/A.I. back court would be problems for the rest of the League.

that would be the weirdest trade. It doesn’t necessarily seem like either team gets that much better aside from Denver now having a legit PG and Detroit throwing the keys to Stuckey. Does JR Smith resign with that? I think he’s more inclined to go chase money elsewhere. Maybe HE’LL go to detroit in free agency. hahahahaha

Woody is smoking crack. The pieces don’t fit. Who would anchor denver’s front court when Camby is gone??? Nene?? And how many balls would Detroit actually have to play with with Hamilton and Melo on the same team? Dumars isn’t this stupid. The Pistons have enough front court than to be running for Kenyon and Camby.
Do the salaries even match up here?

This would be one of the dumbest trades ever for Detroit. Take a bloated Kenyon contract. Trade away your trading leverage in Rasheed for Kenyon Martin? Heck no. The only bright spot I see for Detroit is Melo, and a trade like this would disrupt what this team , which is defense. This trade would be HORRIBLE for both sides. Joe Dumars needs to make Minor adjustments, not a freakin overhaul! They just came from their 6th consecutive eastern conference finals appearance! Dumars would be a FOOL to do a trade like this!!

Well this is just a rumor we all know this trade ain’t happining. I did like the rumor that Melo was going to NJ Nets I can see that working but this one is just dumb.
I think the only thing that is a fact is that the Nuggets are trying to shop Melo because the Nuggets front office has not made a statement about any of the rumors floating around. Goodluck Melo rep B-More where ever you go!

‘Melo is and will always be a tumor wherever he goes. Yeah, he is talented and a prolific scorer but he is easy to defend. Just get into his head and frustration will set in and he’ll get into foul trouble and become ineffective. Plus, his best isn’t great and isn’t worth in inevitable off the court shit that comes with him.

This is a trumped-up concoction of Denver sportswriters, essentially fantasizing that they had the Denver Pistons and could advance for a change in the playoffs. Highly dubious that Joe D would touch Melo given his character flaws. Impossible that Detroit (or anyone) would swallow K-Mart’s ridiculous contract.
Something simple might happen, like Sheed for Camby ++. But even then it seems unlikely. Joe wants to shake up the core a bit but he doesn’t believe in blowing up the team. He doesn’t even believe in “rebuilding.”

The trade described in the article is stupid. It doesn’thelp either team and leaves both teams at “not good enough” when both are aiming for a championship.
That said, both teams have some major issues going into the ofseason.
- Denver has too many high paid low-post guys with Camby, Nene, Kenyon (who make $32 million together)
- The Billups trade is looking like a mistake for Detroit. Chauncey i a step behind the best in the east and his injuries are also a concern – plus he has 4 years left on his contract.
– Carmelo is not the player he was two years ago and is starting to look like he doesn’t have what it takes to be a franchise player – Denver needs to think long and hard about that but I can’t see them giving up on a player like Melo’ already.
There are many teams that need a quality vetran Centre and Camby’s contract has only one year left so he is probably Denver’s best trade option and will likely be moved to bring a quality PG to Denver.
Detroit is harder to figure out…I could see them being stuck in “second round elimination” for a few years
