Lakers Survive, Advance to Game 6

IMAGE DESCRIPTIONLamar Odom (photo. Tim Tadder)

On the same day Tiger Woods gave another lesson in being clutch, three VIP’s from this Lakers/Celtics series who have been called upon to step up when it’s winning time — Kobe Bryant, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett — all had varying degrees of success in Game 5 at the Staples Center. For Kobe, he started off red-hot, knocking down four threes and scoring 15 points in the game’s first eight and a half minutes. But from that point on he lost his shooting stroke, and after L.A.’s 19-point second half lead shrunk to zero, Kobe made his biggest plays on the defensive end and by simply protecting the ball at times when it seemed his teammates were dying to turn it over. Down the stretch Kobe (25 pts, 8-for-21 FG’s, 7 rebs, 5 stls) missed a lot of shots and made some poor decisions with the ball, but ultimately his team got the W and stayed alive for Game 6 … Pierce, on the other hand, was consistently carving up the Lakers all night. Overheard while we were watching the game: “How does he get to the basket whenever he wants to?” Pierce isn’t particularly fast, not especially quick, plus he has next to no hops and a slow release on his jumper, and still no one could stop the guy. He finished with 38 points, six boards and eight assists, but committed some crucial turnovers in the fourth quarter, one of which led to Kobe’s breakaway dunk that should have been the dagger (were it not for Eddie House’s last-ditch three). Boston fans will of course say Kobe should have been called for fouls on those turnovers, but bottom line is that Pierce lost the ball either way … Then there was Garnett (13 pts, 14 rebs). He completely soiled himself down the stretch; missing free throws, missing layups and committing silly fouls. Is there any correlation between KG’s continual choke-jobs in this series and the fact that we’ve seen a sharp decline in the Gatorade “League of Clutch” ads? Or maybe they’re still airing all the time and we’ve managed to tune them out … Weirdest coaching move of the game: With a little more than a minute remaining and Boston trailing by two, Doc Rivers pulled Sam Cassell in favor of Tony Allen for defensive purposes. Questionable one, considering Cassell (9 pts) had actually been getting buckets in the fourth quarter, and two because Tony checked in and proceeded to guard Jordan Farmar. What’s the point of putting a guy in strictly for defense when you’re having him stick someone who’s probably not going to touch the ball? Granted, Farmar was having a decent game (11 pts), but he wasn’t destroying the Celtics or anything … Second-weirdest coaching move: Phil Jackson putting Chris Mihm into the game in the first half for about three minutes. To quote Jeff Van Gundy, “I lost my train of thought when I saw Mihm.” Has he been killing in practice or something? Upon review, there were several times when you saw Pierce driving to the cup during that short span and Mihm getting beasted under the hoop … Tony Allen’s other standout moment came when Vlad Radmanovic was shooting a three in front of Boston’s bench and Tony jumped up screaming and clapping in Vlad’s ear. That’s so bush league. One of these days a team’s bench is going to draw a tech for some of the craziness that goes on. Cassell damn near blocked one of Farmar’s shots from the bench earlier in the game, and we remember a game earlier this season when the Rockets bench — led by Dikembe Mutombo — was almost forming a circle around an opponent who had the ball in the corner and screaming at him … Way to come though with the ‘hood suit, Kendrick Perkins. He looked like Kanye West on Gigantor pills. And we’re not sure if that was a watch on Perk’s wrist or a diamond-studded microwave … So Lamar Odom finally plays his best all-around game of the series (20 pts, 11 rebs, 4 blks) and he punctuates it by getting kneed in the coin purse inadvertently by Pierce. Where’s the justice? … Pau Gasol also had a real solid game, putting up 19 points, 13 boards and six assists … That play where Sasha Vujacic unleashed a monster flop during a tie-up with Cassell, immediately followed by Vujacic having a three go halfway down and pop out, was proof that the basketball gods do exist … And on Boston’s ensuing possession, a pissed-off Cassell took Farmar to school, baiting him into an and-one that might have been Sam’s second-best play of the season … The Lakers intro video flashed a line that said, “For these brothers destiny lies within.” What does that even mean? … After Derek Fisher tried to use his butt to initiate contact on a defender then launched a step-back jumper that hit nothing but air, one of the Dime crew joked, “Who does he think he is, Chris Paul?” … Mark Jackson hit the nail on the head regarding Radmanovic when he said Vlad does just enough to keep both teams in the ballgame. Radmanovic couldn’t decide who he wanted to help more last night; he was knocking down potential dagger threes one minute, then repeatedly handing the ball over and getting WORKED defensively by Pierce the next … Who let that one kid in the crowd walk out of the house wearing a Lakers jersey over a green shirt? That’s an obvious no-no … Is Rajon Rondo going to be able to contribute for more than 15 minutes in Tuesday’s Game 6? He went 1-for-7 from the floor and had one play where he inexplicably passed up a completely wide open layup to kick it out to Pierce for a three-point try. At least he did more than Leon Powe, who started in place of Perkins (shoulder) and was never seen again after the game’s first five minutes … Bad call by the DJ to play the Rocky IV fight music card at halftime. That must have really put a charge into the L.A. fans who were buying concession-stand sushi at the time. And of course the players couldn’t hear it since they were in the locker room … Moving on to Game 6, one thing the Lakers need to do is play better pick-and-roll defense. They were abysmal last night, as the Celtics seemed to score every time they ran it in the second half. At home or on the road, they have to tighten up that part of their game, which even Kobe admitted immediately after the final buzzer … We’re out like Perk …

1st again bitches. C’s in 6 easy. Go heat in 08-09 with beasley/rose and the best: DWADE!

  3. E 2.0 says:

Hey Dime, is that the first time that you have seen the Celtics’ bench jump and scream at a 3 point shooter? They have been doing it all season!!

  4. Jerry says:

Lakers simply can’t win in Boston playing the same way. I don’t know what can change between now and tuesday, hopefully a better effort can materialize.

I laughed at Radmonivich comment, i always think that he sometimes is the other teams best 6th man

  5. tealish says:

“Boston fans will of course say Kobe should have been called for fouls on those turnovers, but bottom line is that Pierce lost the ball either way … ”

What a meaningless line. Says absolutely nothing.

Hey, I’m going to take out a shotgun and shoot off Kobe’s hand during a crucial moment in Game 6 when he’s dribbling the ball. Ray will covert a huge transition three off the TO.
A felony? Nah, BOTTOMLINE, he turned over the ball. Stupid Dime. Only let Austin Burton near the computer, please.

  6. Austin Burton says:

Can the Celtics win on Tuesday playing the way they did tonight?

  7. Danny McGillick says:

    Word, Tealish. Vapid call, Dime.

  8. Coach T-sun says:

The C’s better finish off the lakers in game 6, this is ridiculous the Celtics are banged up and yet they are almost beating the lakers, just too young and not smart enough it shows that the nba is a men’s league 28+ Veterans run this league no young gunners are gonna come up like the portlands and new orleans they will never be able to grind and play with that veteran poise so for teams to build for the future is really saving money or making money for that matter to create hype or marketing promotions, now granted NO and portland have a bright bright future but title contention? maybe if they add a couple of veterans they can speed up that process from 5 to 3 years maybe. Posey is the real deal i think the lakers need to steal him in the off-season for the mid-level (he’s opting out) if not a solid wingmen that can defend the 3 is critical like a artest or a battier hit the 3 AND play Defense, if not its no big deal play towards your strength they’ll have a twin tower effect next year with odom coming off the bench, but radman’s got to go hes been exposed and hes just…. a space cadet. Kobe’s never gonna win over anyone except for his loyal fans, the jordan fans, media will never stop hating on him he’s in a position to be critized for the rest of his LIFE. You talk about jordan comparisons well first off the C’s play basically the Jordan Rules combine that with the Box and 1 it took jordan 3 years to get through the piston road block he couldn’t do it on his own, even when pippen first came they lost their first year together BEFORE they won their first title. Now do they have a pippen on their team?, a all-nba defender combine with a true mindset to help take over games unlike the lapses we’ve seen with odom or gasol. 2nd off Do people realize there are 3 superstars on the other end of the court? KG, allen and pierce who all carry their franchises for what ? 10 years from game 1-3 it was KG, pierce and allen all respectively leading the charge vs KOBE thats it. Lastly, this is the 3rd youngest team in the nba and regardless what happens the media needs to stop bashing the lakers for being soft, not playing smart, or not anyone stepping up other than kobe, this is still a learning experience, and noone predicted them to even come out of the west just ask charles they are the team of the future this is not their year. So stop the hate!

  9. the real marcus says:

wow, a chris mihm sighting, indeed… who’s next? ira the stopper” newble? dj “posterboy” mbenga?

well, the series still follows script… and who else thinks this will go game 7, epic match-up and all…

…too much pub for godfather stern to pass up…

    …we’re out like a game 6 finish

  10. MoxWestCoastRep says:

Boston is banged up and the lakers have nothing to lose…could be dangerous. hmm maybe im just being a laker fan…
Anyway, it was nice to see Lakers finish this one.
DAMN!!! it should be 3-2 LA going back to Boston!!!

  11. Craig says:

coach t-sun, these are for comments not novels homie

  12. sans says:

If any high school, college, or international team acted like the Celtics (and a lot of NBA teams) they would get T’d up immediately. Bench decorum. That’s a direct technical to the player, while also being an indirect tech on the coach. The NBA doesn’t want it called that way however. Governing bodies do control how officials call games to degrees. It’s the same when player’s fake fouls and get away with it, why you don’t see that many and-one’s in the Pac 10, and why blow out layups where two guys fly into the stands after contact in the SEC never get whistled. It’s how the superiors want the game called. Another good reference is the recent crackdown on traveling and carrying the ball in the NBA

  13. sans says:

oh, and I have never been more pissed as a Cavs fan than when they drafted Chris Mihm with a Lottery pick. I know they wanted someone in case Z’s foot fell off for real, but Mihm was garbage in college, gettting bullied by a 6′8″ and 6′6″ LSU frontcourt in the tourney the year he came out. Pure great white hope garbage.

  14. Big Sia says:

    LMAO @ MICROWAVE WATCH

  15. QQ says:

I didn’t know Kwame Brown still played for the Lakers. Oh, my bad, it was Chris Mihm. Stay glued to the bench, asshole.

  16. knoc says:

kobe’s setting this up to be a historic comeback. boston folks better hope the C’s take care of business at home.

  17. AY says:

i thought this was one of dime’s finest moments in the recent weeks:
“Way to come though with the ‘hood suit, Kendrick Perkins. He looked like Kanye West on Gigantor pills. And we’re not sure if that was a watch on Perk’s wrist or a diamond-studded microwave”

    the ‘hood suit:

the celtics should invite shaq for a luxury box seat for game 6&7; that would be some sweet motivation for kobe.

I was doing just fine staring at the roof, but i look up and Phil’s like, “You’re In!”
WTF am i supposed to do? So i thought real quick and i figured airballs get you back to the bench the fastest

  20. Big Sia says:

  21. KB says:

Did the Lakers win last night? Because Mark Jack and Van Gundy were talking so much sh*t it was hard to tell.

  22. garbageman33 says:

What’s with the cultural double standard when it comes to softness? Dirk Nowitzki shrinks in a big moment, it’s because he’s soft. KG not only shrinks, but disappears and it’s because, um, well, it’s because of something else. His competitiveness, perhaps? Look at the poor guy’s body language in the 4th quarter. That should be the illustration that goes in the dictionary alongside the word “soft”.

  23. rangerjohn says:

wow there are a bunch of new people and a lot of them are fairly clueless lmao

hey youngfed is back, and still voting for an idiot, lieing, racist, just because of the color of his skin!!!
(did you get the video i sent you young?)

celtics in 6 UNLESS the boss tells the refs he wants the lakers to beat the kings i mean the celtics to make it a game 7.

  24. NB says:

I am so glad someone called out KG. Dude missed two free throws that could’ve put them withing two, and a layup in the last minute of the game. He is so not clutch it ain’t even funny. Bout time he got put on blast on national tv.

  25. florida_evans says:

Everytime I read one of these posts, some Celtics fan is bellowing,’One more game’.Well,ya’ll runnin’ outta games.Next I’m gonna hear ‘Celtics in 10′……

  26. Craig says:

with a lot of people sayin the refs callin fouls 5 on pierce and garnett within 30 seconds of each other, do i got to put up with more donaghy references on fixin stuff? or we gonna ignore him from now on as a whole group?

  27. Kermit the Washington says:

    Garbageman33 –

I agree…I think it’s only because KG yells and screams and generally has an “intense appearance”…if it weren’t for all that noise, he’d be getting the “soft” label in this series too, along with Gasol and Odom.

  28. rodnets says:

If i was a millionaire or a gangster I would pick Perkins and Scott Pollard in suits to be my body guards.

Barbie BooYaaChick flop was the girliest move I have ever seen in the court. Is she able to play in the WNBA after this finals? Im sure the ladies down that league will teach him to be a man.

There were times when TV punched Kobe after a turnover or a goof move by one of his team to see if he exploded…Kobe was doing a really good job to behave cool as nothing happened.

Celtics in 6. Nice effort Lakers!!

  29. fallinup says:

KG crumbled in the end. Bar none. To the point, he was garbage. The missed two very crucial free throws, the missed put back. He rarely dunks the ball these days…something is wrong with him..maybe lack of sleep again or something.

If Boston would have won, they would have stole the game again…but so we go to Boston…and I think it’s over on Tuesday…regardless of how crappy KG plays.

  30. SMACK IS WACK says:

“bottom line is that Pierce lost the ball”
Are you kidding me? So what if Posey were to dive and to flagrant foul Kobe? Would you say “Bottom line, Kobe missed the dunk to seal it.”

BOTTOM LINE: the lakers couldn’t even win at home, they had to wait for the celtics and the refs to choke!!!

  31. JA says:

Two interesting stats jumped out at me when looking over the boxscore for last night’s game.

    1. Radmanovic has the highest +/- of all Lakers with +20.

    2. In just under 60 total minutes of playing time, the Lakers bench grabbed only 2 rebounds.

Now how the hell do either of these things happen?

  32. YOUNGFED says:

OK Ranger J here we go again, “HOW IN THE HELL IS OBAMA RACIST!!!” – wtf.

(PS. for those of you who like to correct grammer/spelleing, sorry I don’t focus on blogging like it’s a college term paper.)

BTW – K-HOVA is that deal, the rest of the Lakers are losers (except maybe Gasol).

Ariva Dirchy’ (LMAO I know I spelt that wrong).

“Ya Boy Is Back” – Jay-Z

  33. Juanito says:

Perkins looks like fucking bigfoot. What a buffoon. He should be in the NBDL

  34. rangerjohn says:

    youngfed,
he is racist by default. did you get the video i posted for you a couple days ago? shows it all.

just because he is black (well PART black) does not make it impossible for him to be racist lol

  35. YOUNGFED says:

Didnt see the video and Obama is far from racist. I’m beginning to think you are though

  36. rell says:

When Garnett stepped to the line I knew he was going to miss 1, but 2. Come on KG, have some pride about yourself. Garnett have not had a good half let alone a good game yet. I guess he had 1 good half in game 1. He should be destroying the Laker inside but all he want to do is shoot the jumper. When he do get the ball in the post, Garnett hold it too long instead of going quick. This give the Lakers time to set up the double team and all KG going to do is pass it out. I am so glad Pierce didn’t get hurt in game 1 because if we had to depend on Garnett the Laker would have swept the Celtics. Perks show more heart in the post than KG and that is a shame. Boston definitely missed Perks last night especially against Gasol and Odom.

  37. eric says:

    - funny the mvp chants with kobe at the stripe at the same time abc was showing his awful stats in the second
    half of the game

-oh and that’s the young lakers blowing another lead just like that

-JVG pointed it out well : lakers crowd was awfully quiet for the last game of the season at staples, i guess they’re just a bunch of fat cats with fat wallets

  38. DO says:

ok, the mvp chants need to stop. he already won the award. since game 5, was the last game in LA for the season, my guess is that the mvp chants carry over to next season.

  39. rangerjohn says:

    here you go youngfed
    http://www.eyeblast.tv/public/video.aspx?RsrcID=2036

yep you got me i am a racist just like you are lmao

  40. Sam I Am says:

Obama is as wack as these Lakers

  41. YOUNGFED says:

Yall can vote for old ass Mccain all yall want and keep paying outrageous gas prices, in a down trodding environment if yall want. Hell just re-elect Bush for another 8 years(oops I forgot you cant, sorry) Maybe his brother will run at the last minute. I guess yall have to settle for the 72 yr. old Cript Keeper aka Cradle Robber.

  42. Sam I Am says:

Better than a no experienced hypocrite just like the Lakers lol

  43. Kanye West says:

and George Bush loooooooves black people.

    Please stick to basketball.

  44. rangerjohn says:

    young,
gas prices have ZERO to do with republicans. sorry to break your bubble but it is a world wide thing. be happy you are in the USA where they are only $4/gallon. my inlaws live in guatemala where they are paying close to $6 per gallon and are talking rationing gas. go to london where they are paying close to $9/gallon. i know there are a couple people here from outside the usa, how much you paying per gallon (i know you pay per lit. not gal)

look at obama’s record (what little he has) he votes the most liberal of any person in the senate which is BAD. you want more taxes? big govt? obama will raise taxes faster then the airlines charging extra for every “perk” they used to offer. faster then bank of america charges for every service they offer. hell faster then bank of america will give a new home loan to illegal immigrants.

you go right on ahead and vote race lines not even party lines.

  45. rangerjohn says:

    a prediction for you youngfed

obama will take billary as the vp along his side, they will get ellected and the dirty ass clintons will have him killed within 2 yrs so she can become president.

    take that to the bank.

@ kanye west, you can skip out posts if you like

  46. K Dizzle says:

@ Eric – If you saw your team go up by 20 twice in two games in the first quarter and you knew they’d be givin up the lead, you’d be quiet too. It’s not a “fat wallet” issue.

What’s with all the KG hate? Dude missed free throws just like Fish and Kobe who “never” miss. Stop soundin like you didn’t see the game. I’m a Laker fan til I die and I know that second foul on KG on Gasol was junk. All ball. Then he played 13 seconds in the 2nd quarter. If you think he missed that tip-in by himself, best check the replays and see what Farmar was doin. Team up 3-2, off 2 huge comebacks and nobody was sayin KG was soft when he was killin in Boston, now he’s soft, cuz the refs are garbage and he took and made 1 jumpshot in the game last night. Stop believin the hype and sayin stupid shit cuz you saw somebody else say it. If KG wasn’t on that squad, Kobe’d be averagin 40. There are 2 sides to the court and Pierce ain’t stoppin Kobe by himself cuz the DPOY’s helpside is impossible. Judge dudes on body of work, not game by game cuz then you look foolish sayin a dude ain’t clutch when he was doin everything in previous games.
Kobe gotta have ONE good 48 so Lakers in 7

  47. Sam I Am says:

KG is the greatest…but I’m so depressed that his intensity is suspect late in the game and clutch…he is def a 3rd or 4th option in the last quarter

  48. fallinup says:

I get enough political garbage on the political sites. This here be a B-Ball site. Where B-Ball happens.

So how about that game last night???

  49. Sam I Am says:

LOL Fallinup how about that game…

Yo Luke Walton reminds soooo much of a young Will Farell in SEMI-PRO

lol I want u love me sexy

The Lakers play just like the team too…YOUNGFED’s hometown of Flint Michigan

  50. fallinup says:

Haha, how about that Half time interview with Bill and Luke Walton. Luke looked genuinely creeped out when Bill started gushing about how it feels like father’s day to him everyday.

Poor Luke probably had to grow up hating getting in trouble. Bill would probably sit him down and give him a long winded babbling speech. I could see Luke storming away after sitting through an hour long speech saying “Fuck you, dad.” under his breath. LOL

  51. doc says:

KG is a beast until the 4th quarter then he turns into Reggie Evans. And Kobe look like he stole Lebron jumper for the chip.

  52. Austin Burton says:

Stupid refs making Kobe’s three-pointers go in the hoop and KG’s free throws rim out. The conspiracy is obvious here, folks.

  53. co-conspiracy says:

Every comment board on every sports website has laker fans saying the refs are conspiring against them…and the celtics saying the refs are conspiring against them…shut up, both of you. The refs are just inconsistent, on both sides, and are calling a below average series.

  54. YOUNGFED says:

    @Sam I Am
Sorry Dude everybody on this site knows I’m a Detroit Allstar. Get it Right, or Kick rocks dude. Atleast I rep my city, your probably some 3rd world foriegner, who saved his entire food allowance for a day on the computer. lol

    @Ranger J
Never Said I was voting along races lines. Just voting for “CHANGE”.

@All the cry babies asking “Why can’t we just talk B-Ball”
    STFU
Nobody says nothing we Dime talks about something other than B-Ball (e.g. movies, politics, actors, commercials)

Yall ain’t the Fukin’ forum police…Beat It!!!

  55. Sam I Am says:

    LOL Austin you alright man?

Yes the refs are a non factor….these wack role players are just hurtin the finals

I wouldv’e loved the board today if they would’ve called foul on Kobe’s reach in for the steal….(EVEN THO IT WAS!)

    STUPID Refs

  56. rell says:

It is not hate when you know KG can do some much better. KG is one of the main reason why Boston is in the final. However when he had a half of a good game offensively the entire series this is not enough. When KG decide to go in the post, he can do alot of damage. However when the jumper is not on, he keep shooting it instead of going to the post. If Ray caught the heat the Cavs series because he couldn’t take Wally, then KG shouldn’t be immune against the defense of Gasol or Odom. The Celtics need more than just defense from KG. They need KG’s offensive game which he haven’t given this series. The ref took him out of the game early and gave him bad calls late in the game. But lets be real who thought KG was going to knock down both of those free throws last night when the game was on the line. I thought he would atleast split the pair but he missed both.

I wanted this series to be over last night because the longer this series goes the more danger Kobe can get. Kobe can win a game by himself and if we let this game go to a game 7 I’m going to be very nervous.

  57. Sam I Am says:

LOL Bill Walton’s dentures and his creepy son look malnourished.

That had to be the WORST halftime piece ever !

  58. garbageman33 says:

All Ugly Team Hall Of Fame

Sam Cassell, Bill Walton, Paul Mokeski, Popeye Jones, Larry Bird, Sam Cassell (yes, he’s so ugly he belongs on the list twice). Who else? I was just thinking about it after watching Jiminy Cricket during the game and Mr. Ed at halftime.

  59. K Dizzle says:

LMAO @ “your probably some 3rd world foriegner, who saved his entire food allowance for a day on the computer.”
and I know it’s not funny to make jokes about 3rd world situations but I still laughed. Oh well

    @ rell
I see what you sayin, but missin free throws ain’t really a pride issue. Garnett’s 80% for the season so he’s usually solid. Even Kobe(85%) and Fish(88%) missed late free throws. Ray’s over 90% and he misses. I think KG gettin unnecessary hate like he’s never stepped up before. Duncan gets all the love, but KG’s just been a quieter Kobe sayin if you gave him teammates, he’d shine but not in a mall on some kid’s cameraphone. They gave him Cassell and Spree and he wins the MVP, then with Pierce and Allen, he cops the DPOY and is one away from the chip. P-Double getin all the love, but it’s been a team defense that’s been shuttin Kobe down. I hope LA comes back, but if not, nobody deserves the chip more than KG. McHale did dude wrong just like Philly did AI and Cleveland gon do Lebron if he don’t look out for himself

  60. K Dizzle says:

Why does NBADraft.net have new jersey takin Russell Westbrook when they already got Harris and Williams? Nets need frontcourt help. Would they really pass on the Italian kid, D. Jordan or even Donte Green?

  61. garbageman33 says:

So when, exactly, has KG stepped up? I’ve never seen a superstar player more afraid of the ball. When he gets it in the fourth quarter, he can’t give the damn thing up fast enough. It’s like the ball is coated with anthrax. He’s not even selective about who he passes it out to. “Ok, I’m Kevin Garnett, 37-time All-Star and I’m wide open at the foul line. Wait, I think I’ll pass to the guy whose shooting motion looks like a cat trying to cough up a hairball”.

  62. Shimo says:

Gasol has a new name — Pau “The Matador” Gasol. All he needs to compliment his pitiful defense is a beret and a rose in his mouth.

Hell, he should say “Ole!!!” everytime a defender blows past him.

  63. Joseph says:

For any talk the C’s fans might have about Kobe’s steal being a foul, they might want to consider watching the other 47 minutes and 55 seconds of the game and see all the fouls that they got away with themselves. Actually, go back to Game 2 when the Lakers got miserably shafted by the officiating. If Game 2 is called down the line as it should have been and the Lakers don’t cough up Game 4, you’d be seeing the Lakers right now holding the trophy. Face it, any call or non call the Lakers get has been more than justified and more than deserved after the poor officiating that’s been going Boston’s way. As far as that Sasha flop, from the angle I saw it looked more like Sam “I Am Not” with a good hold on the ball and from where he stood beside Sasha, used his hold of the ball as a means of throwing Sasha on his back and side. Go Lakers!

  64. JA says:

I don’t know why everyone is blasting KG for not being some 4th quarter monster or something.

He’s never been the go to guy at the end of the game. That’s always been one of the knocks on him. It didn’t just happen overnight.

  65. Goldman says:

    @Ranger John on Post #44
in Germany we pay 1.60 Euro per lit. that would make it 3.7 x 1.60 sums up to 5.92 Euro per Gallon that would be 9.2 Dollar. And just for the record if i would live in the us i would take Obama, too. the reason is obvious, look i’m white.

  66. ash says:

if it was dirk disappearing, he would be getting hammered. KG has been GARBAGE the entire series.

also, dirk has had way more post season success than KG, but yet dirk is soft and KG is not.

between dirk and KG, nba.com says that dirk is waay more clutch than KG. dirk is #4 in the league in 4th qtr points. KG is not ont he list.

  67. GEE...everybody wanna shine without reading the brochure says:

Gotta make this quick cause I am about to go see Hulk.

Out of all the playoff coaching I have seen Phil do, this is his worst yet. The subbing he has been doing is just horrid. Dude’s team will get in a rhythm and get a nice lead and he proceeds to put in the bench.

Understandable you feel safe and all with the lead, but it’s the finals pimpin. You got to keep your starters in their most if not all the time against a squad like Boston. Only time you take one out is if they are sucking it up bad or extremely winded.

    Very poor subbing by Phil.

KG made some of the dumbest fouls I ever seen him make in a game. It was to the point where he couldn’t even complain cause he knew he was f’ing up.

Did anyone else notice the Lakers complaining more with each other than ever before last night. Between comments, stairs and other guestures they seem to be falling apart. One slight prob. and predicament is Kobe continually wants the ball and is visibly frustrated when he doesn’t get it, but at the same time it has to play in the dude’s mine taking the shot that Kobe is going to have words or he probably should have passed it if I miss.

Straight up and down, the Lakers are going to have some calls go there way and an outstanding performance from Kobe to win in Boston.

While I see them possibly getting some calls to maybe extend the series for raitings (conspiracy for everyone lol). I don’t see Kobe having a big game.

If anything to me this series has most def. said to everyone he is not close to MJ’s level yet and also while Kobe can walk on mud, he can’t walk on water yet either.

You gotta know Boston already has the shirts in the boxes for Game 6.

Dang so what do we all do for ball after game 6?? Sad the seasons got to end.

  68. rangerjohn says:

    goldman
you are pretty much helping the entire point, the gas prices have ZERO to do with who is in office, it is all around the world. it is not getting better, and obama cant do anything about it.

    young
obama for change? really? what is he going to change? tell me some of the “campaign promises” he has made. what is he going to change for you or me?

  69. Goldman says:

Did you see this Radmanovic guy. Man this is the worst starting forward in the league, hands down. I mean all he can do for the Lakers is hit some threes and that’s it. I don’t even think that he knows he is on a basketballcourt sometimes and not anywhere in Utah Snowboarding and dickriding. I guess even PJ. who loves his versatility?! what?! see’s what a capable defender he truly is. Maybe he is just mentaly retarded and can’t read or hear or whatever.
I’m a Lakerfan yes, but that doesn’t mean i have to love every personal decision that these guys make. In fact I kind of giggle when i see this dumbass is getting millions instead of cleaning the sewers in his hometown.
But hey, that’s life. Go Lakers…

  70. Spliff 2 My Lou says:

What the fuck? I thought this was DIME Magazine’s website. Sounds like CNN with all this political bullshit. Y’all bitches probably don’t even vote.

  71. Goldman says:

    @rangerjohn
yeah i know, but considering obama cant do shit about it, who else?!
I know it’s kind of global. the prices are going to raise further, cause oil is not an infinitive ressource.
And really, Obama can’t do worse than Bushie…

  72. Kanye West says:

    George Bush loooooooves black people

but seriously, instead of bitchin bout who the other guy is votin for, why don’t you tell us why you votin for your guy?

  73. Obama says:

    I’m a racist, McCain’s a racist, we’re all racist. Now back to basketball please…

  74. doc says:

What happenened to Will Smith running.I voted for him.

  75. Dave says:

Gas prices skyrocketed when Demo Carter stopped domestic production…..too bad none of you understand that if we only drilled for oil in the US outside of Texas our gas prices would still be under $2.00.

Gee, good points on Phil Jackson, he’s not helping his team win and looks worse each game. I can only imagine who he will blame if they lose the series….but I guarantee it won’t be the Lakers coaching staff at fault.

Rangerjohn, nice video. Does anyone think Afghanistan or Iran or Venezuela would elect someone named John Smith whose dad was a US citizen and his mother a native ho?

Youngfed….race has nothing to do with the presidential election, it’s the fact that it’s a Muslim radical dressed up as a black activist I have a problem with. If he really was just a black guy running then I could maybe understand people’s infatuation with him, but come on, race has nothing to do with it.

  76. Knah-Ledge says:

It’s the nba finals and all I’m seein is pages of politics. I’m headin to SLAM

  77. Sam I Am says:

    @ Youngfed

    LOL booooooooo

Sorry the Pistons don’t accept Food stamps as payment for game admissions

  78. Sam I Am says:

Please ignore my posts. I’m just a 12 year old who likes piggy backin on other people’s arguments over the internet.
Thank you again for not paying me no mind

  79. rangerjohn says:

well i for one will vote macain for a couple of reason,s 1 he is a true american hero, who knows what it is like to serve his country with honor, and has paid the 2nd highest price for his country.
2 he does not waiver from his oppinions or points, he has never voted down party lines and he pisses off both parties because of it. if he like a bill, he votes for it NO MATER WHO BROUGHT IT TO VOTE.
3rd he is experienced with both domestic and foreign relations.
4th he is not about raising taxes, or inventing taxes, he is not about “reworking” things or “recinding” things (obama wants to “redo” nafta which was put into effect by billy boy)

obama or mccain neither will be able to help the oil/gas prices get used to them. listening to fox news earlier, they where talking about other countries which supply oil now that in the next 5-7 yrs will have to import oil themselves (mexico, russia, venezuela…..) which will put even more strain on the world economy and cause prices to continue to skyrocket. talking $5/gal next summer (if not sooner) and $6 by 2010 if not higher and sooner.

goldman makes an interesting point, “obama cant do worse then bushie” this MIGHT be true, but then this election IS NOT ABOUT BUSH. this is mccains biggest hurdle, getting the rep past the bush stigma. you know i voted for bush twice, but then for 1 simple reason, he was better then the other choices. think what gore would have done for us after 9/11, (he is softer then dirk and kg combined), think about j kerry’s lies and IMO traitorism. bush was the best choice, 2 times in a row, think about that. if he was the best choice how bad where the others?

it really is not about race or religion (well it should not be but it very well could be) but it is about who is the better man for the job, mccain is the better man for the job out of the 2 man race. obama has not even worked a full term in the senate and he is “qualified” to run the country?
for the basketball connection, lets take david stern out and replace him with oh i dont know mark cuban because he is a “personality” to run the nba. he has a couple yrs experince as an owner, that should qualify him right?

    keep dreaming.

  80. DaPro says:

Phil’s rotation has to be questioned somewhat but damn Phil ain’t missing shots out there or turning the ball over, or missing rotations on defense.

The one thing constant about the Celts is defense. They play solid D first and it helps their offense

Lakers play decent defense if their offense is clicking. The job of the players is to execute and no one is really performing for the Lakers.

Kobe is still the best in the league but stop with the MJ comparisons. He hasn’t dominated a game; damn Dwade took over a series and delivered a ring in Miami.

Kobe is Kobe not MJ. The Lakers are done Tuesday

  81. DaPro says:

    @ rangerjohn

Cuban is a bad example, he is self made millionare
. Clearly he could run a business and the NBA wouldn’t be a problem for him to generate revenue

  82. rell says:

    @K Dizzle

I agree with you that Pierce defense is good because the team defense is good this year. I know Garnett along with Tom T. is the main reason for this. Paul Pierce is getting alot of love in the playoff because he has improve on one of his major weakness throughout the season. Pierce has also shown up during crutch time throughout the playoff. Talent wise Garnett is the 2nd best player in this series and should be playing better offensively this series against the Lakers. Garnett should be a beast. I am not basing KG play on the past but the present. I understand why he didn’t win in Minnesota because he had a horrible GM running the franchise (Just like the Celtics. I think DA promise Mchale a job once he gets fired from Minnesota if Mchale would trade him Garnett.). However when KG had a team, Cassell and Spree were the one taking shots during crutch time. I guess I expected KG to quiet everyone down this year and show up during crutch time, but it seems like he rather let someone else do it beside him. Like garbageman33 said he is not selective who he pass it too either. If Rondo is open for the jumper and KG has one on one coverage in the block, KG rather hit Rondo then try to take the shot himself.

Like you said everybody miss free throws but it’s seem KG hardly ever want the ball when the game is on the line.

  83. rangerjohn says:

    dapro,
that is sort of why i picked him, cuban can run a business, and he MIGHT be able to run the nba BUT would he be better at it then stern? stern has all the history, and the experience, and cuban has VERY LIMITED experience. when you take soemthing like that, do you take a guy who has a couple yrs, or a guy who has been around and knows how things actually work.

while not the best example, he was one of the better ones related to basketball.

its like who would you rather have run your company, bill gates or that kid who started facebook? while the kid had one good idea, gates has the experience and runs things better. mccain is more of the bill gates type and obama is more of the facebook guy (cant think of his name)

  84. Abdul-Salaam says:

I promise, there are no basketball gods. There is only one God.

  85. DaPro says:

RJ you have to take a chance somewhere.

When you got your first job you were hired because someone felt the need to take a chance on you . You can’t start of with experience

Being a vet doesn’t make you a candidate to run the country. Reverend Wright was also a vet would you vote for him if he was running.

The qualifications to run for president is what exactly? We’ve paid the price for having “qualified” candidate run this country. It’s time for some new blood, Obama can’t do any worse than what we’ve been dealing with

Oh, Stern was the league’s attorney. Cuban successfully revitalized a franchise that was one of the worst ever and made it into a multi-billion dollar franchise over the course of a few years. I think Cuban knows how to run a business and make it marketable and successful

  86. WTF says:

Sasha Vujacic reminds me a bit of Danny Ainge? A pesky guard who can shoot the three and can handle the ball occasionally and whines all the time.

  87. khameleon outta DC says:

we coined a new phrase for Paul Gausol….

We call him Paul GauSoft…go figure

  88. rangerjohn says:

    @ dapro

while i agree you are not born into experience, and you have to get it somewhere, obama has NOT EVEN COMPLETED A SINGLE TERM IN THE SENATE, so take a guy with experience in dealing with the world and the most powerful country in the world, or leave it in the hands of someone new who is JUST LEARNING!

as you put it, yes someone took a chance on me with my 1st job, BUT they didnt make me CEO after 6 months on the job. that just doesnt happen.

you dont take the janitor and make him the president of the company. i would have little problem with obama if he had a little time in office, and didnt hang out with the people he does and then deney it, and if he didnt vote for things like raising taxes, we pay enoug hin taxes as it is. talking about gas prices, obama was one of those who voted for the 50 cent gas tax increase at the end of last year. i bet those of us paying $4.90 for deisel here in houston would LOVE paying an extra 50 cents.

as for the record, the dallas mavericks are not a “multi-billion dollar” franchise, no such thing, the most profitable franchise in the nba is the knicks and they are only 592 million (mavs where 6th on the list.)

and how do you or anyone else know obama cant do worse? his voting record shows he is not leaning toward changing anything but how much money you and i have in our wallets and its not a good change

  89. DaPro says:

I meant multi-million and yes that pretty impressive for a perrenial doormat team.

Obama is nothing close to a janitor (no disrepect to the janitorial crew out there) I live in Chicago and I’ve seen his work. He lobbyied against in his term and he actually has voted on more issues and got more accomplished that Hillary did. Check the track record on his site.

McCain is discussing exploring the Mars or some planet, WTF??? The greatest country in the world is is financial trouble. The least of our concerns should be outer space development programs. We need to patch foreign relations to rebuild our encomony and get other countries to buy or products and thus create a larger export ratio than imports. That’s the first step. McCain can’t so that.

The other countries have grown tired of America’s war mongering and bullying ways.

  90. rangerjohn says:

    oh dapro,
go to obama’s site and check out HIS track record? tell me you are not that nieve

read up man, here is a verifiable none obama site showing how he voted while in the ill state senate
    http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=18967
    (note the taxes portion)
voted no To create an income tax credit for all full-time K-12 pupils in an amount equal to 25% of qualified education expenses up to a maximum of $500 per family.

voted yes To restore the Illinois Estate Tax.

voted yes To impose a Gas Use Tax on the purchase of natural gas from outside the state of Illinois for use or consumption in Illinois. Forces the delivering supplier to pay 2.4 cents per therm of gas, or the customer can elect to become a “self-assessing” purchaser and pay 5% of the purchase price or 2.4 cents per therm.

dont just go to his site for info on him, go to the source, the us govt where the freedom of information act allows you to see everything he has voted on.

    or the liberal wash post
    http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/o000167/votes/

here is a good one, obama has been talking about taxing the rich and reducing the taxes for the middle class, yet he voted against making wealthy medicare recipients to pay more in to medicare

Vote 63: S CON RES 70: Ensign Amdt. No. 4240; To require wealthy Medicare beneficiaries to pay a greater share of their Medicare Part D premiums.

i am telling you guys, he is not who he says he is, and he really is not fit for the job

  91. Big Freeze says:

OMFG I LMAO when i read this shit:

Way to come though with the ‘hood suit, Kendrick Perkins. He looked like Kanye West on Gigantor pills. And we’re not sure if that was a watch on Perk’s wrist or a diamond-studded microwave

    Keep it hilarious Dime!

  92. word says:

perkins really thought he looked cool with his dress shirt hanging to his knees, smh. tuck that shit in son.

  93. word says:

and who the fuck is mihm? never seen him in my life

  94. for real says:

Mihm used to fix the net for the UT Longhorns when the other players would shoot in practice.

He’s really known for most games played in the pros while wearing a Kotex.

  95. Buck Fush says:

YOUNGFED – “I like the puppet on the left!”

RangerJohn – “Well I like the puppet on the right!”

Bill Hicks – “Wait a minute…it’s the same fucker holdin’ both puppets!”

  96. dagwaller says:

Dime – busting on Vujacic one sentence for taking advantage of a rule, then lauding Cassell for taking advantage of another rule the next sentence is pretty hypocritical. Think about it. Taking a charge means that you pretty much have to fall, which leads to a lot of flopping. Taking a foul while shooting means that a guy has to touch you, which leads to a lot of jumping into the defender. Both are weak plays, and if the players were calling their own fouls, both Vujacic and Cassell would – and should – get laughed at.
