Getting Ready for the Finals, and could Beasley drop to #3?
Michael Beasley (photo. Chad Griffith)With a few days off before the Lakers and Celtics get it started, the NBA’s focus can turn to the Draft for a minute. Popular sentiment has Chicago taking Mike Beasley at #1, but just in case they choose to take the hometown kid Derrick Rose instead, what will Miami do with the second pick? Beasley seems like the obvious choice, but we read on South Florida Sun-Sentinel reporter Ira Winderman’s blog that Pat Riley might not be feeling Beasley so much. “Michael Beasley is not Pat Riley’s type of player,” Winderman wrote. “We’re not talking skills here, just personality. Yes, Riley has made it work with Anthony Mason, Rod Strickland, Tim Hardaway. But that was after each had been established as a viable NBA commodity. Beasley, at 19, by contrast, hasn’t proven anything yet.” Apparently some of this stems from Beasley’s class-clown act at the Orlando Pre-Draft Camp, where he’s only there to do interviews and take measurements. What is Beasley supposed to do, keep an ice grill? We’d assume a guaranteed Top-2 pick like LeBron, Dwight Howard or Shaq would have been joking around too … In yesterday’s Smack we mentioned Paul Pierce’s joyful mood after the Celtics series-clinching win in Detroit. One of the Dime crew’s biggest Boston fans posted his reaction to Pierce and Kevin Garnett’s contrasting post-game reactions; KG downplaying the W while Pierce acted like a kid in a Toys ‘R’ Us shopping spree. Was either player wrong in their actions? … One of our DimeMag.com readers told us celebrated a little differently: “I was so pumped up that I punched my brother in the head. And he wasn’t even mad because he was so pumped up.” … As you can guess, from now until the new NBA champs are crowned, be prepared for about 1,500 media features on Pierce being from L.A., Kobe having a chance to cement his legacy, KG going after his first ring like Gollum, Boston becoming America’s new “Titletown,” Derek Fisher’s daughter, Sasha Vujacic’s nickname, the Kobe/Ray Allen and Kobe/Pierce rivalries, Danny Ainge’s involvement with the ’80s Celtics/Lakers games, how Kobe has matured and learned to play with his teammates (zero mention of anything Colorado-related, though), Kobe versus Michael Jordan, and any other reason to grab some face-time for Magic, Kareem, Larry, Russell, Worthy, Coop, Parish, McHale, West, Baylor or Bill Walton — heck, M.L. Carr might be in-line for a public resurrection … You know the NBA is gonna capitalize on Lakers/Celtics in every way possibly, but THIS is a little bit much. So this THIS … We were looking at some old Pre-Draft Camp numbers, and did you know that back in 2006, Jordan Farmar had the highest vertical leap of anybody camp? His 42-inch number was higher than Rudy Gay (40.5), Ronnie Brewer (41) and Tyrus Thomas (39.5). In ‘05 Nate Robinson hit 43.5 on the vertical. And in ‘04, Ben Gordon’s 37.5-inch vert was two full inches better than J.R. Smith and three inches higher than Andre Iguodala … Jermaine O’Neal did a Sporting News Radio interview the other day where he said he’s thinking he’ll be traded to a contender if the Pacers commit to rebuilding. “I think if they’re going to rehaul the team, then they’ll move me, and not only move to another team, but to another team that has chance to winning a championship,” J.O. said. “That was the one thing that was said to me and really pleased me before I left Indianapolis.” Jermaine is due $44 million over the next two years (assuming he doesn’t opt out this summer and leave that money on the table), and although he claims he’ll be an All-Star once his knee heals, he’s basically in the injury-waiting-to-happen stage of his career. His homie Isiah might not be around to take that huge contract in New York — but then again, Donnie Walsh is there — we know the Nets have been interested in J.O. for a while, and there are a number of other teams out there who could use a quality low-post scorer and shot-blocker. Which team do you think J.O. would help out the most? … Did you catch the Kimbo Slice fight on prime-time CBS last night? Kimbo TKO’d a guy named James Thompson — who had some CRAZY cauliflower ear going on — after busting the cauliflower open and tagging Thompson with some shots that had him so loopy he actually slapped the ref after the fight was stopped. Check out this quote Kimbo dropped in the pre-fight feature: “You gotta have your mind right. Your mind, your heart and your balls have to be on one accord.” And this one from announcer/legendary fighter Frank Shamrock on Kimbo: “He’s way too big, way too strong, and way too comfortable with violence.” … Speaking of people who are comfortable with violence, Ron Artest has been getting in work as a radio host, and reportedly wants to set up an interview between him and John Green, the guy who threw the cup of beer that ignited the Palace brawl. That should be fun … We’re out like J.O. …

Riley’s gotta be kidding. He’s not even gonna be on the bench, and he’s deciding not to take the most talented player in the draft (who might not even be on the board at #2) cause of personality differences? All that means is Riley’s planning to backstab the next coach too, as soon as the Heat become contenders again.
Jordan got mad hops, but no hang time. That’s why he can’t do crazy Nate-like dunks.
I hate the week wait until the Finals start. Just like the 2 weeks before the Superbowl happens, the media just keeps talking about stupid shit. I can’t believe casual fans actually eat that shit up.
Makes me mad, it belittles the passion and commitment of real fans. Aren’t we the ones they should be adhering to? Not the people that don’t watch a single minute until the last few games of the conference finals and suddenly claim to be Laker fans or Boston fans or whatever.

I don’t know why everyone talks about personality problems when all of Beasley’s antics came in high school. What teenager doesn’t do things like that?

JO could get a nice fresh start with the pistons with a trade with sheed (last year of his deal to clear some salary and mcdyess because they have a 69 million pay roll next year. This way they free up more time for maxiell @ the 5 and start to play amir johnson more.
Indiana knows they are not really gonna get value if they are trading a player to a contender. I really doubt beasley will go out of the top 2 contention based on the fact that hes already so versatile hes got the skill set of a sheed/odom and if hes aggressive and ready to be a franchise player its gonna be doom for the league. Even if miami don’t want him i am pretty sure a team like dallas would trade dirk for him in a heart beat because they def need some changes, Dirk has reached his peak he lost his soul to Wade and got his heart ripped out by baron davis hes no franchise player no more. Either way miami would have a ton of offers from the league with beasley on their lap i still think chi-town should pick him up even though i love rose, but i feel the league is overvaluing the point guard position too much, its a big men league pg’s are good for players who don’t develop their skill-set fast enough because they lack some serious knowledge about the game or fundamentals ( AND THERE ARE ALOT OF THEM) New orleans is one big example guys are all one-dimensonal players except for David west, thats why Cp3 is MOST VALUABLE not necessary the best player. People just need to use their brain when it comes to judging the value of the point guard position, its a factor but NOT THE MOST VALUABLE, Big men are number 1 then comes the lebron’s and the kobe’s which comes once a decade.

June 1st, 2008 at 12:05 pm
Bron42 aka coffee black says:
The kimbo fight was a joke. They put him with guys who are like 0-6 their last few fights (tank abbott hasnt won since like 03′) and hype him up. The sad thing is no ones even heard of thompson and the guy gave him a run for his money. Kimbo couldn’t even catch his breath for the post fight interview. His ear did look like something from cloverfield was about to jump out though. MMA is cool but it seriously is one level above gladiators and lions while rich people sit outside cheering but not gettin their hands dirty..and you KNOWWWW mike vick is sittin there like “wtf, i got arrested for DOG FIGHTS!!!DUDES EAR IS ABOUT TO FALL OFF!!”
Back to the NBA, its fair for riley to question beasly’s attitude when so many young guys flake out quick now days BUT they would be havin the same concerns if dude was actin like a robot or just straight had a prison look 24/7. Hes about to make millions either way so he has every right to be chillen and havin a good time. Dwight howard has killed the league and he still acts like a kid, not to mention shaq or kg actin foolish 90% of the time when its not game time. I really hope the heat arent THAT satisfied with haslem where they think they got a better option than beasly if rose is taken (sorry OJ they already got wade)
Also, vert tests are usually a joke. You can train and learn lil tricks just to beat that test during combines which make your vert look higher (wear track flats). Pulling your shoulder blades back during the reach test so your arm length looks shorter and then have them normal during the vert test alone gives you a few extra inches. I mean like they said, Farmer had a 42 and he only dunks one handed for the most part. Plus nates hangtime isn’t great either, he is more of a power dunker which is why he doesnt really hang in the air and get fancy. Hes more of a straight go up and get it guy on a putback. not catch, windmill, decide what you wanna do kinda guy like other guys. Gerald green on the other hand goes up, pauses, cleans his teeth alil, waves to the crowd, blows out a candle, and then dunks. Too bad thats all he could do.

Jason Maxiell is about 6′5 at BEST, I ran into him and Eric Hicks (another former UC undersized bruiser) at a club a few years back and those two were barely two inches taller than me, and I am 6′3″, so no way the Pistons are looking to play him at the five spot as Coach T-Sun says.
I do agree that it’s time for them to break up their starting lineup. Six straight conference finals appearances is impressive, but they are 2-4 in those six series and only 1-1 in the Finals. I beleive that is their celing.
I would trade Rip Hamilton first. Two guards that can give you 18-20 points are a dime a dozen. You don’t think Rodney Stuckey could do what Rip does? They need someone who can score on the block. Stuckey can get his own shot, that’s all they would need.
Think the Clippers would be interested in a sign and trade of Elton Brand, along with Cat Mobely for Rip and Rasheed?
Detroit would have a starting five of Chauncey, Stuckey, Prince, Brand, and McDyess with J Max, Mobley, and a couple of FA pick-ups coming off the bench. All of a sudden, their ceiling goes from Conference Finals to Championship.

The only thing I’d say about MMA vs. dog fighting is that people have a say in what they’re about to do. If they get their heads knocked off, they knew the risks and by doing it, they signed off on it. Dogs don’t have that option. (I’m far from a PETA supporter or any of that shit, but there’s a HUGE difference in FORCING animals to fight and letting people CHOOSE to fight. Also, they typically don’t kill the losing human.)
June 1st, 2008 at 12:45 pm
Celts Fan says:
Kimbo Slice is a BAD MOTHERFUCKER. GoCavs, he may’ve made his name on YouTube and shit, but that dude he beat last night was a MMA veteran (not a top-tier one, but it’s only Kimbo’s 3rd fight. That time’ll come, but let him EARN his way up the ladder so his record catches up to his rep.) His name was made online sure, but reps are only created quickly, ask Darko who quickly that shit fades if there’s no substance to back it up.
Frank Shamrock had a few other great quotes too. Right after the hilarious one you guys posted, “I’m a bad dude, and Kimbo Slice scares me!”
and after Kimbo messed up his ear (which was screwed up before he got in the ring,) “He popped it! He popped the alien life form that used to be his ear!”
btw, the ladies stole the show last night. That shit was like a Rocky movie and the girl who won was FINE (not so much the other one, especially afterwards!) Best keep Ike Turner and all the other wife beaters away from her…
Great Shaq quote Youngfed, though I lost a ton of respect for him this year after the way he left Miami like anyone couldn’t see this coming. It was an all or nothing gamble and they won it. Ease off Big Fella, it was only like that because they sold the farm for a really short window at a ring (which they won!) Hell, anyone could see tht coming (and can see it coming 2-3 years down the road with my Celtics. Though we at least have some nice young guys in Rondo and Perk that should be really stepping up at that point - to differing levels, but Perk’s developing enough of an offensive game, I’m a little more optimistic on him than my prognosis before the year of “has to be next to an establish scoring big man or he’s a backup.” We’re in a bit of a better position than Miami with some good young guys, which Miami doesn’t really have any of - obviously excluding DWade - and no albatross contracts (cough, cough, Mark Blount - who if they really don’t want Beasley, they should trade the pick and FORCE whoever wants it to take Blount back too.)
Did anyone else catch during game 6 of the ECF, when Jeff Van Gundy said something about the Pistons give you the best of both worlds like Jay-Z and R.Kelly, and Mark Jackson, laughing without missing a beat responds, “Did you Google something today?” I was dying…

Besides the dog fighting issue was waxed the second hilary clinton went “ya I used to hunt all the time with my dad, its just a cultural thing” but people got heated when T.O and clinton portis said dog fighting was a cultural thing.People in the south dog fight, people in the hamptons hunt deer and bears and shoot politicians in the face. If dog fighting is forcing a animal, what is horce racing? Tape a knife to a deers hand and then go kill it with a knife of your own, thats the next sport. call E!.

Sure, his buddies did a lot of the day to day activities, but would they have been able to without Vick’s financial backing? Of course not. That’s a RICO case if we’re talking about a guy like a mobster getting caught doing that shit. Whether you agree with the law or not, let’s not pretend Vick didn’t know what he was doing or that it was illegal. He rolled the dice, it came up snake eyes, now he has to deal with the consequences. (i’m not for hunting for sport..if u gonna kill it, then eat it) what’s dog fighting? a neanderthal way for a bunch of guys to sit around watchin to animals forced into killin each other while they touch themselves? there’s nothing, NOTHING sporting about dog fightin. it’s childish and crude. leave that shit back in the middle ages where it belongs. u certainly need edumacated to be tryin to compare those 2 things as one-in-the-same. someone oughta strap a raw steak to u and make u see the pain those animals go through against their will. hope u gotta dictionary b/c i know u don’t understand half the terms i’m droppin on your far-too-large forehead..

So is that how you propose we fix the problem of overpopulation in countries like India and China? Or for that matter, America? Since hunting is totally humane and everything…
June 1st, 2008 at 2:36 pm
JOB33 says:
ok let me retrack for a minute.. i don’t hunt.. i don’t like to hunt. but for some it is a necessity. fox hunting and bow hunting and all that crap is pointless. i see no point in going out into the wilderness with the intentions of harming an animal just for the
“adrenaline rush” of killing something that has no way of defending itself to me is disgusting. but to sit there and say there’s no difference between those that hunt (for necessity) and those that dog fight, because someone you are a fan of got thrown in jail for doing so.. i mean c’mon. those aren’t even in the same category. you are basically trying to say that those that make a conscious effort and a conscious choice to take 2 innocent animals, abuse them, and thus teaching them to kill is the same as those families, and the people responsible for providing for those families, to go out and try and shoot a deer, or rabbit, or whatever else to bring back home and use it to feed his/her family thus offsettin the price of food and saving money to put towards bill, etc. To compare those 2 and say there’s nothing different is ridiculous. And all this b/c some athlete u enjoyed watching is (rightfully) doing time for getting caught in taking part in it. That, to me, is just a ludicrous notion to even think of, let alone blogging it like it’s some kind of viable opinion to actually base an argument out of. But everyone’s entitled to their opinion.
And I also apologize, for I misconstrued and misinterpreted it when you said they were the same. I thought you agreed with dogfighting, and having personally had a dog stolen from me, just for the sake of trading it for a pitbull puppy (and then hearing my dog was later killed b/c it didn’t fight) I got overzealous and a bit obnoxious.

lol wow i wasn’t turning it into a race thing…Although parts of the arument are obvious
@JOB33…90% of the people who hunt today dont do it for food. HENCE hunters having shows on espn and theres stores that specialize in it. Hunting has become a sport that you do when your bored like skiing and tanning. Lets not make it like their native americans tryin to surivie a harsh winter and walkin around in buffalo fur. Their dudes in camo gear with sniper rifles and shit picking off defenseless animals just to show they can do it. Cutting off a deers head and putting it on your wall is humane? Or clipping it in the leg while it hops off a few miles and then dies anyway.
@Celts- again i was joking. I completely agree that vick broke the law and deserves what he gets but people are blind if they dont think theres a double standard. People wanna talk about whats humane, we kill horses who cant race anymore, a guy just got famous for literally being a street fighter and beatin peoples heads in and rich fans were booing last night since their wasnt enough blood in the early fights with smith and lawler. Blood lust is blood lust. Horse racing may be MORE humane but its not clean and innocent. Pushing horses by wipping them until they break down and then killing them because “they can’t lead a healthy life”…um it would be livin a healthy life if it didnt race in the first place. Go rent the movie “untraceable” and tell me its not pretty close to real.
@dizzle- it wouldnt be such a hot debate but if a guy got life in prison for killing a dog, but nothing happens when some white billionare kills a horse or a cop shoots a unarmed guy and walks away free, ya people would still be pissed. The only reason vick got the punishment he did was because he was vick. So his celeb status helped and hurt him. Like portis said, u could go to any place in VA,TEX,BAMA and find dog fighting or chicken fighting.
lol I think alot of people would watch kimbo vs a bear but after seein thomspon lay on kimbo the whole second round, i think the bear would take it.

a) NBA 1 on 1 Tourny
b) Rap Freestyle Battle feating (jayz, wayne,ti, luda,nas,kanye,50) etc..for title of best rapper alive
c) a prison football team led by michael vick vs the patriots.
d) a 3 way battle royal between: Kimbo slive vs mike tyson vs a wild grizzly

Bron42- I wasn’t aiming the racial thing at u. I understand what you are saying, and i do NOT agree with it. I think it’s ridiculous to consider shooting at defenseless creatures a sport. But as for the hunting out of necessity, I’ve personally been in that situation. There’s alot more than you would think living in that situation. I’m not saying that they make a dwelling out of the hide, but they don’t hunt strictly for trophies.

nba 1 on 1 would certainly be entertaining.
the rap battle would just end up being the jay-z-kanye-nas show..bets on nas.
the football game would be all backwards cuz ain’t no way they’d be letting vick stand behind a guy..pats hands down since vick would be hikin instead of qb’in.
grizz eating kimbo and tyson would probably be the best..especially after all the hunting/dog fighting arguin goin on.
have to go with the nba 1 on 1..too much debate on who would win.

Damn, I leave for a few hours and all hell breaks loose…
I’d take the NBA 1 on 1 over the other 2. and Job, what is this, 1960? Of course they’d let Vick play QB…
Vick only got 2 years and he was heading up/financing the operation. Ya, he woulda got less if he wasn’t a famous athlete, but you can bet your ass that’s the type of conviction that they’d use as a RICO case on a mobster and give him MUCH more time…
Don’t know where race came from and won’t touch it other than to say, obviously any sentence for a crime on a human should be longer than a sentence for a similar crime on an animal.
We only kill horses (from what I understand, I don’t watch that shit and the uproar over Barbaro last year was almost funny if it hadn’t died) because when they break down, it’s typically in their legs and they spend almost their entire lives on their feet, so if their leg’s messed up, they’re FUCKED. And remember, once they’re done racing, they essentially live just to smash out other horses and create super-horse off-spring. Not a terrible life…
I agree that hunting for sport is barbaric, but I have a bunch of family down south, and everything they kill, they eat (and the dogs get the scraps.) That’s usually how it is down there. If you kill a dear, you eat the venison (that shit’s good!)
Ya, Kimbo got famous for bashing guys’ heads in, but remember, anyone that fought him HAD A SAY IN WHETHER OR NOT TO FIGHT AND CHOSE TO GET IN THERE WITH KIMBO. You can’t say the same about those poor dogs.
and in Afghanistan, they play a sport where they ride around on horses throwing around a severed goat head. Just cuz they do it in other countries doesn’t make it civilized…

Hunting is wrong, plain and simple. Chris Rock said this in one of his old standups: “America is the only country in the world that goes hunting on a full stomach.”
You’re really gonna include 50 in that rap battle? Really? And how you gonna have a best-freestyler alive contest w/o Mos Def, Talib, or Eminem? or Atmosphere? Crooked I? Juice? Supernatural? Stop reading magazine headlines and believing that’s hip hop.

Hunting for sport is wrong, if you’re going to eat what you kill, then that’s fine. That’s the oldest human tradition there is and has been done since the dawn of civilization. Our ability to store food (in addition to a TON of other things) has obviously evolved, but hunting an animal to eat it is perfectly fine. Raising an animal to watch it tear apart another animal for your enjoyment is completely different. PETA people are out of their damn minds (perfect example, I was at an O’Bama rally a few months back and there were PETA people walking around in pig costumes with signs saying, “Meat causes global warming.” WTF?!?), but I tend to agree with them on this issue…
back to ball, if the Heat don’t want Beasley, there must be a ton of other teams that’d make a trade. Force them to take Mark Blount’s terrible deal in return and move down a few spots to grab OJ Mayo or Jerryd Bayless (both he and DWade are combo guards that can handle the ball. If you put them together, I think it’d work out fine since DWade is basically their PG half the time anyway. It’d be similar to those Milwaukee teams with Cassell and Ray Allen where both blurred the line as to who was which guard spot on each possession.) BUT, if they’re smart, they take whichever of Rose or Beasley drops to them and go from there. If it is Beasley, you can trade him and Blount together (potentially) for an established star like an Elton Brand.

Celts Fan says:
*though I’d say if Beasley drops to them, keep him! A core of Wade, Beasley, and (potentially) Marion is a very solid place to start.

@Three Stacks- I was just namin mainstream artists people would know. Personally i think 50,TI, etc..wouldnt even make it out the first round so don’t take it too serious. Its not like i coulda named skillz and everyone would of known who i meant.
@JOB33- I know what you meant, I was just sayin, the guys on ESPN and hunting channels, arent doing it for food or pelt like its oregon trail or something. YEt peta isnt trying to have them shut down or anything and their just killing for fun.
@Celts - If he was a mobster they woulda had alot more to pile on. They even tried with vick but only had the dog stuff. It was like when wayne gretsky got caught bettin on hockey no one gave a crap.
as for the horse they ONLY break down cuz their pushed past their limit, so that alone isn’t humane. If i’m whippin a horse makin it run to its max and beyond and its bones cant handle it, then something is wrong. And if theres such a huge risk of a horse gettin hurt and needin to be killed, they shouldnt be doin it. like you said, the dogs dont have a choice and neither do the horses. People say run, they run, if they get hurt they get killed. on to the next horse. Also only stud horses (badass ones who win everything) live out their lives bangin horses makin super horses (its funny cuz they tried that with slaves too which is why we rule all sports but thats another topic)
I’m not talkin about like down south hunting or rednecks livin off possum lol (no offense or anything) I’m talking legit hunters with creeping through bushes drippin deer piss trying to lure them wiht a bunch of video cameras behind them. If you live up in the wilderness thats one thing. If you live in daytona and drive to the woods just to kill some shit, thats another.
My point on kimbo was how we don’t mind brutal stuff these days until it goes wrong. I can watch a dude get his ear blown up on cbs when a few years back that was hbo stuff at midnight.

like I said, I’m not a horse racing guy and don’t claim to know a lot of details. If them breaking down is because of all the pushing, then they absolutely should stop it.
for the record, PETA is trying to shut down those hunting shows, ESPN just doesn’t care or listen to them.
on Vick, they absolutely coulda tacked on more. If there’s gambling, there’s tax evasion. That’s how they got Al Capone. They find something else that they can make stick since they’ll never catch them with a gun in hand (and don’t forget the gruesome details of how the dogs were killed BY VICK HIMSELF. That did more damage than anything else. Otherwise, Mike probably only gets like 6 months.)

-I AGREE WITH THAT 100%.
You are right though on the violence and desensitization of our society. Unfortunately, that gets into a million other issues and there’s no one way to stop it. One disadvantage to this great country we live in and established rights that we do have (usually. fuckin Bush is doing his best to turn this into the book 1984 though) is that you can get some people that will push things too far and have the right to do so, and therefore think they’re still correct in doing it just because they technically have the right to try. Between violence and sex on the air earlier and earlier at night (I’m only 25 and don’t mind, but I see how it’s gotten MUCH more prevalent just in the past few decades) and crazies pushing to take “under God” out of the Pledge (I’m aethiest and still think that’s idiotic) there will be some bad things that come from freedom, but it beats the alternative. Christ, I feel like I’m on CNN after rereading that…

haha i know right, that shit got outta control quick. Deep for a basketball blog.
Real question though. If the Pacers were to offer Granger, JO and the #11 for the 2nd pick (assuming the Bulls take Rose and Miami really doesn’t want Beasley, obviously they’d jump on Rose if he’s there,) and their 2nd rounder (#52 from Orlando, their’s is gone) Mark Blount and Ricky Davis, is it just me or does that seem pretty reasonable for both teams?
Miami would get a really good #2 or #3 in Granger. A guy who’s good at everything, but isn’t a legit #1 guy like he was stuck being in Indiana, but a PERFECT guy to put next to Dwyane Wade. They’d also get to roll the dice on JO who’s either healthy and makes them a FORCE, or he’s not and his expiring deal is extremely valuable in ‘09-’10, and they dump Ricky Davis and Mark Blount’s contracts in the process. With #11, they could probably grab DJ Augustine and have a PG to throw out there with them (a big guy could slip too, supposed to be a deep draft…) Then, either Marion opts out and they go get someone else (could have to package the pick, but Elton Brand makes a lot of sense) or they keep him and that team is scary.
Indiana gets what should be a legit STAR in Beasley to build around. Their cap is FUCKED anyway with Dunleavy and Murphy’s deals, so why not bring on another shitty deal (Blount’s) that expires around that same time? In 2 or 3 years, they’ll have something like $30M in expiring contracts and a 23 year old Michael Beasley! They also get a year of Ricky Davis (whose deal expires after this season I think) to get some scoring while Beasley matures and those contracts get closer to expiring.

@ Celts Fan:
When you are talking about those Milwaukee teams, you meant to say Gary Payton and Sam Cassell. Ray Allen never could be considered a PG at all on that team - he always played off the ball.
That GP - ET combo sucked ass too. GP wouldnt play defense anymore and his shot had started to go crooked at that point. What a dumb trade for Milwaukee. Completely ruined their team.

Three Stacks says:
Gary Payton didn’t play a single minute of Hall of Fame caliber basketball after he took off the Sonics jersey. I’ve never seen a dude clank so many open jumpers as GP during his year w/ the Lakers.
@ Celts Fan, Miami would do that trade in a cocaine heartbeat, but I don’t think Indiana even thinks about that trade, unless maybe they keep their pick at #11. I can see just JO and the 11 for the 2nd pick and a big contract. But no way they throw in Granger, who’s undoubtedly their best player at this point.
If Miami got JO and the 11, they could pick up a PG at 11 (Westbrook and Wade makes for a super-athletic backcourt, or Augustin could fit nice w/ Wade and Marion), they’d have a decent team w/ Wade, Marion, JO, and the rookie point.
But Miami’s best bet is to do absolutely nothing. They’ve got 17 million coming off the books, and the #2 pick. They should just go after Elton Brand and grab Rose, if they’re lucky.
