KG: “I played like garbage”

IMAGE DESCRIPTIONKG

Within the final four minutes of the game, Kevin Garnett went to the stripe twice with the Celtics trailing by two. He made 1 of 4 tries. After Kobe sunk two free throws, KG juuuust missed a tip-in off of a Ray Allen missed lay-up. For the League’s most competitive madman, those missed opportunities are reason to shoulder the blame for the entire loss.

“It was trash,” Garnett said. “I played like garbage tonight. I can do better and I will.”

“Those are free throws I know I can hit,” he said. “But I’ll take them again if you put me in that situation. I’ll have the confidence to knock them down.”

Aside from a two-possession clip late in the first quarter when he dropped in a 7-foot hook shot followed by a spinning drive for a lay-up literally on Pau Gasol, Garnett was nowhere to be found offensively. That was partially due to the ultra-chippy fouls that he committed. Even if the baseline official totally blew the call when KG stripped Gasol going up for a jumper, Ticket shouldn’t have given the ref any opportunity to whistle him for his third foul midway through the second quarter.

Being in foul trouble didn’t stop him from playing aggressive D, but it did cramp his offensive game.

“I could never really get into a rhythm,” Garnett said. “I was playing on my heels the whole night.”

Whole night??? Try all series KG. You’re going up against the anti-Garnett in Pau Friggin Gasol, and you’re yet to have a “monster game”. Come the last 2-4 minutes of each game, KG effectively disappears.

The setting is right. The clincher, at home. Be the man that everyone in Beantown expected you of all people to be. Be the savior. If KG puts up anything less than a monster game…he will now and forever be labeled a choker in crunchtime.

finish it on Tues. & no one will remember

  3. Big Mike says:

Celts better win on Tuesday or Garnett will surely disappear

  4. chrisGO says:

i think this year’s playoffs have officially sealed the deal of who the better PF is between Garnett and Duncan…

  5. Blue says:

was it just me or did it look like pau gasol was able to power his way to the hoop against garnett like he was shaq or something?

  6. fallinup says:

Nah, I saw it too, Blue. In the final minutes, Pau posted up Garnett something fierce, and got him on a pump fake…two points for Pau on KG’s watch. It’s at least safe to say that all of those days running with Minnesota on Garnett’s back has taken a major toll. The kid is 32 now. He shoulda left Minny years ago.

  7. Blue says:

yeah fallinup…i saw it earlier on in the game too though. at one point i saw james posey motioning to KG that he wanted to take Gasol and KG would take Odom, but KG waved him off. strange to say, but had Perkins been in there, the Celts would’ve had this one. perkins on gasol is a much better matchup.

  8. M.Balla says:

Between Pau, LO, “Rusty Machine”‘s Defense (and, I though I wouldn’t have to say this ever but in a couple games to boot Kobe) for LA part, and KG alone for the C’s part, this Finals will ever be remembered as the Chokapallooza 08.

They should be thankful to one another of their chokeness, because they would be out otherwise…

  9. Celts Fan says:

ummm ChrisGo, that conversation’s been over for a loooooong time now

  10. Celts Fan says:

good news is, KG should be PISSED and handle his business on Tuesday

  11. bill says:

when your consistently getting doubled every touch it’s pretty hard to score and get into rhythm. KG still makes his presence on the court defensively, he’s not going to stop everything, gasol’s going to get his one or two baskets every so often. He had 14 boards basically in one half more then everyone else who played the whole game

  12. Big V says:

Missing those free throws is inexcusable. That tip shoulda went too. KG’s gonna have to pick up his game and really beast Gasol. Nobody in Boston wants to see a Game 7.

  13. fallinup says:

Like I said in the first post. Anything less than a monster game is bogus for KG. The setting is perfect for him to help seal the deal. And I agree fully with Big V, missing those free throws and that easy put back was inexcusable.

  14. chrisGO says:

celts fan, you’ll be surprised how many people here in Chicago say otherwise…but i think we can dead that argument over here after this year’s playoffs

  15. chrisGO says:

    “KG should be PISSED”

thats what im worried about, if thats the case i smell early foul trouble again.

  16. doc says:

I know what KG gonna do.Start off hype, play great D in the whole game, make a jumpshot with about 6 minutes to go in the game, then shrivel up faster than old pussy in a pool on a hot summer day.

  17. chrisGO says:

    @doc

    LOL

  18. E$ says:

I remember KG having a good game in Gm.1

  19. K Dizzle says:

    @ post 18

Thanks for switchin it up in here. I almost forgot KG had 24 and 13 in game 1 and helped stop the bleedin in game 2 when the Lakers were comin back hard. Dudes got memories so short, it’s embarassin. 3 weeks ago, heads wanted to trade Ray Allen. Now they talkin Finals MVP. When KG put 22 and 13 in Detroit then came back home and put 33 and 7 on em, he was the toast. Now dude’s doin his end and the reason he won DPOY for his team and haters talk like he ain’t doin the right thing by lettin PP and ray get off cuz they on fire.
If y’all don’t appreciate dude, I know 29 other teams that could use him and don’t tell me your team wouldn’t take him. The best thing is if KG gets his chip this season, none of this hate gonna matter

  20. SWAT says:

good shit K dizzle. True dude has been a beast but has still put up good numbers and has helped his team, even though his stats may not reflect all the work he has done. (ex. jumping across the halfcourt line to keep the ball active and help keep the poss. in game 1 or 2) but i was a little upset that dude missed the 2 freebies and the tip in he should have crammed down gasol’s throat but it’s ok. I would take Kg on his worst day over any of LA’s “big men”

  21. dan says:

WOW….I just read this on a hot forum on tall dating site ____Tallmingle.com____ which is a hot dating site for all tall friends and tall singles.

  22. eyeused2b says:

This Finals will be remembered as a choking hazard. The Lakers choked last Thursday, and KG choked last night.

  23. DaPro says:

I respect KG for admitting he could have iced the game. I called 6 games and this is the game that defines KG, PDouble, and Jesus legacy

I expect KG to put Gasol in the chamber most of the first half and the Lakers go to a double which opens the floor for Boston’s shooters House and Posey to play of the open opportunities

Truth has gotten to the rack at will and they have no answer for him. This trend continues and Ray will be more agressive and look for his shot in rhythm

    Boston pulls it out Tuesday
