Monta Ellis drops 72 points

Over on HighSchoolHoop.com the question is being debated: Was Monta Ellis the most dominant high school player of the modern era? Knowing full well that nobody is touching Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s prep career, consider that Monta led his Lanier H.S. squad in Mississippi to a 129-16 record in his four years, averaged 38 points a night as a senior, and as you can see in the clip below, once torched some poor team for 72 points. Seventy-two. In a high school game, which as you know has shorter quarters. Read more about Monta’s prep run HERE.

They play quarters in Miss.? What about DaJuan Wagner? He dropped 100 and everyone was all up on for a long time.

  2. Buckets says:

Monta was good but my man dajuan wagner was da best prep player ever he just knew how to score

  3. TJ says:

Are you all forgetting about Lebron? 3-time Mr. Basketball for Ohio, 3-time USA-TodayAll-USA First Team, 3 state titles, and he lost like 5 games total.

  4. Celts Fan says:

damn, you guys beat to me DaJuan.

Magic called LeBron, “The best HS player I’ve ever seen.” good enough for me…

I saw Monta drop 40+ on Lou Williams on some random HD channel the year he came out in the Draft and the difference between the 2 wasn’t even close (to say nothing about the way Lou carried himself as his squad lost – think Lamar on Tuesday – compared to the way Monta hit clutch shot after clutch shot and tons of clutch FTs to force 2 OTs and take a W)

  5. C's says:

Travis Best dominated highschool and dropped 81 in a game. I remember reading about it in the paper – I would think a lot of NBA players had games like that.

I thought Kenny Anderson was supposed to be the greatest high schooler? or LeBron? DeJuan?

  6. Big Dog says:

I don’t know how you can’t give it to Dejuan. He dropped 100 in a game and averaged 42.5 per his senior year. He had range as soon as he stepped over half court. He was amazing.

  7. Mcaf says:

    what about Denham Brown??

  8. Dagomar says:

I feel like Lebron was the best. Watching him was just a joke. I’ve never seen a highschool player able to do the things he could at such a young age. And he was so physically dominant you sort of felt bad for the guys he played against . . . and with.

  9. doc says:

Fuck them stats Lebron is the best High Schooler from this generation with Dwight Howard second.Cut this BS out.

  10. nick says:

denham brown was nice in high school and all but it was against canadian competition not the same as the usa comp. usa got all aau leagues throughout high school, canada don’t got that. but scoring 110 in a game is still 110 points regardless of competition. but wagner’s 100 is still more impressive in my books.

  11. TalenTed says:

Man..Baron Davis is my nigga n its good to have him around to help Monta, but soon he gonna have to pass that torch n let Monta be the face of the franchise. You can tell Baron is gettin old but he still hold it down.

  12. Wesley says:

And Monta Ellis was the worst athlete in the 2005 Draft!

Al Jefferson had one of the most impressive stat lines I can remember seeing. He average something like 42, 20, and 8 blocks. Not sure of the exact numbers but it was close to that. That is unbelievably dominant. But I’d still give it to Juanny Wags, that guy was amazing. It’s sad that he never made it in the NBA and the way it happened.
