    You know what the worst part is? Years down the road, Scalabrine is gonna become this team’s version of Mercury Morris. Whenever they do a TV retrospective on the ‘08 Celtics or Kevin Garnett or Paul Pierce or Ray Allen, you’re always gonna see Scalabrine interviewed for the piece, just because he seeks out the cameras and he’s got something of a personality (albeit an insufferable one). The one difference between Scal and Mercury is that Mercury was GOOD. He was the starting tailback. He PLAYED.

    doc lets be real, odom had never been past the 1st round, (no laker besides kobe and fisher have) and hell gasol had never even won a single playoff game EVER! before coming to the lakers. to say “they have all bein in big games” is just not a true statement. like saying a kid moving up to the varsity from JV and then losing his 1st 10 games then he wins one, and now he has “been in a big game” doesnt work like that.

    Yeah Pierce had Ray and KG, but hey, nobody likes to play with Kobe.

    Pierce gives Allen his momnets and his nights, the same as he does with KG. He’s not afraid to get saved by his teammates. They’re all equal in Boston, and I for one would love to play with any of them.

    But the Lakers? I ain’t takin’ crap from a wannabe-Jordan who’s as selfish as they come. Arrogant I can take; but somebody who’ll throw me under the bus? Yell at me and fail to lead by example himself? Please.

    Kobe is a one-man show. Always was, always will be. He’s the hero, and there’s not enough space in the limelight and enough air in the ball to share with Kobe.

    So maybe that’s the real reason the Celtics have a better cast of players, if they do indeed.

    you are correct odom was on that team, and the 1st round of the playoffs are not exactly a HUGE game, second round is a little tougher but the “big games” are conf and nba finals, everything else is JV

    Doc is right.. I love how a few weeks ago everyone was hyping how NO ONE ON THE CELTICS has any playoff experience except cassel and posey so obviously the celtics have no chance. Now that hte lakers get scrubed its “o well what do you expect, odom and gasol have no experience. What happen to all those years of internation experience everyone was sayin would help gasol? what happen to him being a STAR 20-10 guy who just happen to b on a bad team? Your bitchin meanwhile before this year, scal had been farther in the playoffs than allen,KG or pierce (although he didnt really play). So now that everyone wants to jump off the lakers bandwagon and make it like they werent the ones hyping how much of a joke rivers was compared to jackson or how kobe was tooo much like jordan to get this close and let his team lose…please..We all knew gasol was soft, but people hyped him up so don’t back pedal too much off your predictions guys… Ha and now suddenly bynum is gonna be the savior for next year too.

    Everyone made it like the western conference playoffs was gonna be so rough and tough meanwhile outside of the rockets and hornets, none of the teams even pushed their oppenents to a game 7. So of course the celts are gonna be more battle tested. The pistons would have beat the nuggets and jazz too. Hell cleveland might of. Until the spurs, the lakers had a breeze playoff schedule (perk of being #1) almost similar to clevelands last year. Same result in the finals though.

I didn’t think this was that bad…sure the guy is an idiot and has no right to talk since he doesn’t play, but it’s true I’m a Lakers fan and although I wanted the Lakers to win. 66 wins 3 all stars and the best defense in the league was hard to deny. Defense wins championships folks remember that. The fact that Boston was somehow the underdogs really is mind boggling. It speaks to the fact that it was perceived that they were playing so horribly in the East while LA was blowing through the West.
    Maybe the East isn’t as weak as everyone thinks…they certainly play better D over there and once again Defense wins championships…remember that.

    Everybody here is questioning Scalabrine, but nobody talked about the question he posed. HOw was that all those so called “experts” were picking the Lakers to win the Finals? The Celtics in only NINE months became a good team, then they became the best team in the regular season, then they kept climbing the ladder to the top learning in each and every playoff series how to play together.
    It is sad that all those “experts” weren’t able to understand what was going on, because teams have always defeated one man bands, and defenses have always defeated offenses.
    Now, you can say all you want, but Scal pinned those “experts” to their responsibilities.
    Keep talking about his redhead, his non-existent speed, his scarce contribution in terms of playing time. But, still you won’t have answered his witty question.

    The answer to Scalabrine’s question is that his team struggled throughout the playoffs, getting taken to 7 games by the under-500 Hawks, getting taken to 7 games by the “one man band” Cavs, and while beating the Pistons in 6, were not getting the best performances out of their best player, Kevin Garnett. Meanwhile, the team they were facing in the Finals had just knocked off the defending champion Spurs in 5 games, beaten a very tough Jazz team in 6, and destroyed the Nuggets in 4. At the time the Finals started, you couldn’t have told me the Celtics were playing better basketball than the Lakers. What happened was that Boston finally got it going when it mattered most. And he made so much about 66 wins, keep in mind they got to play teams like New York, Miami, Milwaukee, and the rest of the Eastern Conference’s weaker ones 3-4 times instead of two times.
