Pau Gasol Talking Tough

RealGM is linking to a story in the Orange County Register that says Pau Gasol is fired up for revenge next season.

From the article:

“I’m definitely going to keep these feelings because it wasn’t pleasant to see all the Boston fans go crazy on us after the game and hitting the bus and all that crap. It’s just something I’m going to keep in mind all year long until we get there again,” he said.

Fans in L.A. cheered immediately for Gasol upon his arrival midseason but have blamed him for the team’s collapse in the Finals against Boston.

“You play a good game and you’re the king of the world,” he said. “You don’t play a good game, then all of a sudden you’re soft and you didn’t play well, and it’s your fault.”

Pau, when your fans watch you get repeatedly stuffed around the rim because you can’t/won’t attack the cup, when they see 6-1 Rajon Rondo repeatedly take rebounds away from you in the lane, and when you play help defense LIKE THIS, yeah, they’re going to blame you and tell you your soft.

You can’t expect Gasol to suddenly change his personality into Charles Oakley or Kurt Thomas, but the Lakers as a team need an infusion of toughness ASAP. They should think about paying THIS GUY.

the pillsbury dough boy is harder than Gasol…the hardest thing he does is eat RAW cabbage.

Pau, they just wanted to get your autograph. LOL

God forbid fans go crazy after their team wins the championship. I mean, why couldn’t they be more like Spaniards and only cheer when the matador makes the defenseless bull bleed to death. Damn you, barbarians in Boston!

  3. Lady Luck says:

Gasol played VERY SOFT in the Finals. He had advantages over his opponent that he didn’t take advantage of…for example. When he was aggressive, Garnett was in foul trouble. He’s too big and talented offensively for Perkins and PJ Brown, and Powe. So there’s no other explanation, but that he came soft. And we have 6 games of video evidence to prove it.

I’m not too worried though. This experience as a unit, plus a full year together. Pau moving over to PF. Bynum and his big athletic body move into the center position. AND Pau gets to work with one of the best big men of ALL TIME in Kareem.

  4. Ashlov says:

Trade Lamar Odom for Udonis Haslem!

  5. Amar says:

Shit man, what’s Spanish again for “disappears in the crunch” ? I bet all the Memphis fans know what it’s called. I guess Kobe knows what it’s called too, now.

  6. Flip says:

What is it with you guys constantly calling European players soft?? As far as I remember KG didnt have a great series either being guarded by Pau most of the time…

  7. SWAT says:

Flip what series were you watching? Kg worked his ass over…espescially that last game. Dude was soft for not stepping up his d over shorter cats and for always fumbling in the clutch. Shit gasol remember it, write it down, take a picture…I dont give a f_ck! You will always be soft.

  8. Celts Fan says:

@Amar, Spanish for “disappears in the crunch” = Pau Gasol. Don’t overthink it…

and having said that, he was playing out of position all Finals. Put him at the 4 where he belongs, let Bynum provide the muscle, and put someone else at the 3 that can do SOMETHING defensively, and things could’ve been much different. I really think this team moves Odom (obviously w/ something else) for a solid 3 (Ron Artest makes a helluva lot of sense) and grabs a title next year.

  9. Amar says:

I’m not calling Europeans soft, but who are the only ‘hard’ ones? Darko and Klieza? Maybe Fesenko (who hasn’t really played in the nba save for that game where he made bynum look scared)?

I like european players, I’ve had a few on my team over the last few seasons . . . this season the Lakers had a lot of them. They went pretty far, alas, they didn’t win it all.

  10. Amar says:

a Sabonis circa 1980-1989 counts as well . . . he punked misses robinson pretty hard

  11. BlazeMcHerbs says:

Pau’s a lil bitch. He better grow some balls and play like a man if he ever wants to win a ring.
I’m not sure what he expected the Boston fans to do win they win on homecourt, did he think that everyone was gonna start feeling sorry for him and wish him luck for next year? What a lil punk

  12. BlazeMcHerbs says:

when they win on homecourt …

  13. johnsacrimoni says:

I like the idea of trading Odom for a traditional 3 but I don’t know about Artest..

  14. doc says:

He mad that the fans hit the bus. What about KG,PJ,andKendrick knocking his bitch ass around for 6 games that didnt anger him.Not to mention Duncan did it before them they just couldnt stop Kobe.

  15. rodnets says:

spanish for disappears in the crunch = “se borro o se cago en las patas” = gasol

  16. maddskizzle says:

All the people complaining about Gasol should shut up and thank the Lord everyday that they got him for KWANE FREAKING BROWN. They wouldn’t even be in the Finals this year if it wasn’t for Gasol.

  17. karan says:

    cosign maddskizzle
gasol is a great player, not a franchise player, but one of the best second options in the league

  18. JoeGym says:

@Amar: Tony Parker is pretty hard, being consistently among league leaders in FG% at 5ft 11

I think people go to the Euro = soft excuse too much, the Lakers did beat the Jazz & Spurs (who arent soft) & were favored by many to beat Boston.

Only when that didnt pan out was it an issue, if Euro’s are soft what does that make a star studded US National team when they lose to a Euro squad?

  19. cizenstein says:

pao is soft, perk put that big arm up in game six and the flakers had nothing. o yea odom, pao, r.t. walton dont matter all are super soft no love no love. celtics played bigger than their talent, Truth and KG, RAYRAY, posey house poe bigbaby tallen(dunk) sam the man, PJ genius, even scal bench-style dressing in la was kickass: love for the game, love for the team, love for boston, and desire desire desire won over 1 man team game.
