Who Do You Want To See Win a Championship Now?
Before the NBA Finals tipped off, I asked which player in the League you most wanted to see win a championship. Now that Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce have erased their names from that list, who’s the next in line? The new list of vets in the hunt includes names like Allen Iverson, T-Mac, Dirk, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, maybe even Kobe (without Shaq). And of those players who you want to see get The Precious, who has the best chance of getting it done given their current situation?
Who do you most want to see win a ring now?

Iverson, but I can’t see it happening, because he, and his team, will have to commit to playing D, and well….we’ve seen how that’s gone so far.

I think Kobe will come out furiously. He will make it in 2009. That is his destiny and will define his legacy.
Someone so passionate for this game should be rewarded.

fallinup says:
Of course would love to see AI or Kidd get a ring…but it’s unlikely they’ll get one next year without a big time trade.
Ya think it’s too premature to think of a Boston repeat?
June 18th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
Craig says:
i think at the mid point of last nights 3rd quarter it was just about time to start debating a boston repeat

Austin Burton says:
Of the current group of ring-less vets, I’d have to say I want to see Iverson win one the most, followed closely by T-Mac. Because A.I. is a Georgetown guy and because he’s busted his ass and carried teams for so long, he’s the guy I’m rooting for most. Honestly, if T-Mac just got to the conference finals I’d feel like it was close to the equivalent of a championship.

Kermit the Washington says:
This is tough. The trend now is to custom build your team to win a championship. So the odds of your favorite ringless player getting a ring are good, but which team is he going to be playing with at the time? Who knows?

Big V says:
Without a doubt, it’s gotta be AI. The guy is a WARRIOR. Other than him, I’d go with Nash as well. I’ll have to add that I’m not very confident that either guy will succeed, though.
June 18th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
DT says:
Caron Butler. It would complete his amazing turn around from his troubles coming up in Racine,WI. If he keeps improving every year he might just get a ring at some point.
Putting my homer tendencies aside, I’d say AI as well

I’d love to see a.i. win it the man is something else but in denver i can’t see that happening unless they totally restructure that team cause they all just don’t work together. Denver basically plays their 5 and 3 bench players, watching boston, they’re truly a great team, with 7 bench guys that all play well
June 18th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
Kudabeen says:
AI and KG are two of my favorite players all-time. Guys that don’t get the love and respect they deserve for non-basketball reasons. If AI can get in a better situation where he has a real team that likes playing together he can do it, but Denver isn’t that place…

steve nash and grant hill never even played in an nba finals….so you gotta cheer for them more; but i couldnt care less about either winning the chip.
dirk had his chance too. as did mcdyess in 2005.
you can’t feel bad/sorry for any player who played in the finals…that was there chance. they had their chance. i dont matter if their team wasnt better; dammit….they still had their chance.

maybe he could join the Celtics, Lakers, who else? Spurs, Hornets, Portland? wishful thinking…
If you got a good defensive team around him with low post intimidators he can lead the league in steals again and people will say oh he’s sooo committed to the defense now.
As for him in Denver, compare them with the Celtics. Melo and AI sacrificed only so much of their game. Sure they gave up a ‘few’ shots, but they’re both still shooting like 20 times a game. Boston’s main guys gave up a bit more and look what happened…

A.I., the answer deserves a bone
Melo, the best team player never gonna get it though
Boozer/Willaims, need i say more the next dy-nasty
Juwan Howard, i hate to say it but some one from the fab five needs to win one. really wish is was cweb or jalen
Grant Hill, nuff said
J. KIdd, what could’ve been
S. Nash, what should’ve been
Shawn Marion, in miami anyways that way he can show phoenix he’s legit
Shaq, to show kobe up again then retire

AI but he wont get it in Denver therefore probably not while he still has All Star skills…will he be justified if he gets one on the downside of his career ala the Glove and Mitch Richmond by signing w/ a odvious contender for ish money?
Also how about Elton Brand? Come on yall the man has been a CLIPPER most of his career a effing CLIPPER!!!

Celts Fan says:
AI - that guy is amazing. He’s about 5′10″, 165 (don’t believe the listings, I’ve been within 10 feet of him and he’s no 6′, 180.) He should’ve lost a step by now, don’t know how he keeps going the way he has. Pound for pound, the toughest guy in the NBA and it’s not even close.
Grant Hill - it’d be a great story. Perserverance and whatnot.
Ron Artest - just to see David Stern have to give him the trophy!
CP3, Deron William - the game’s in great hands at the PG spot
Brandon Roy - classy as hell, mature beyond his years, and a hell of a basketball player. Plus, Portland deserves it after having to deal with the Jail Blazers (who were AMAZINGLY HILARIOUS, but that’s easy to say from afar, I’d be heated if they were my team) He may’ve (along w/ Oden?) saved basketball in Oregon.
Dwight - Superman…
Steve Nash - should already have one. great job again Sarver. Only plays 1 end of the court, but damn is he fun to watch on it. that gifted first MVP (shoulda been Shaq’s) will have to do though, cuz it looks like the window’s closed…
Kevin Durant (love the kid, but ONLY if it’s IN Seattle or with another team/owner. Don’t reward Clay’s greed and sleaziness.)
the Hawks (I like all their young guys) - they’re quick, athletic, and seem to enjoy playing with each other. just a fun team to watch.
Gil - just for his blog and whatever new commercials/exposure he gets.)
LeBron - the King will claim his throne soon enough, I’m sure.
CB4 - seems like a funny guy, I like his game too.
Big Al - I love his game and watching him develop. Has TONS of post moves. Hopefully Minnesota gets good so he’s not that under-the-radar star that no one knows of. kid’s got a load of talent.
Elton Brand and TMac - it’s starting to get painful fellas…

AI obviously, like people said, he’s an absolute warrior. But the most, I gotta give to Nash. He’s the active player in the league with the most playoff games and no Finals appearance. Now that KG, Allen, and Pierce all made the finals I think its gotta be a pretty wide margin too.
