Who Do You Want To See Win a Championship Now?

Allen IversonAllen Iverson

Before the NBA Finals tipped off, I asked which player in the League you most wanted to see win a championship. Now that Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce have erased their names from that list, who’s the next in line? The new list of vets in the hunt includes names like Allen Iverson, T-Mac, Dirk, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, maybe even Kobe (without Shaq). And of those players who you want to see get The Precious, who has the best chance of getting it done given their current situation?

Who do you most want to see win a ring now?

  1. Jim says:

    Duncan, of course.

  2. Craig says:

    danny granger…for sho

  3. SoulOnIce says:

Iverson, but I can’t see it happening, because he, and his team, will have to commit to playing D, and well….we’ve seen how that’s gone so far.

  4. kobeee says:

I think Kobe will come out furiously. He will make it in 2009. That is his destiny and will define his legacy.
Someone so passionate for this game should be rewarded.

  5. fallinup says:

Of course would love to see AI or Kidd get a ring…but it’s unlikely they’ll get one next year without a big time trade.

Ya think it’s too premature to think of a Boston repeat?

  6. Craig says:

i think at the mid point of last nights 3rd quarter it was just about time to start debating a boston repeat

  7. Austin Burton says:

Of the current group of ring-less vets, I’d have to say I want to see Iverson win one the most, followed closely by T-Mac. Because A.I. is a Georgetown guy and because he’s busted his ass and carried teams for so long, he’s the guy I’m rooting for most. Honestly, if T-Mac just got to the conference finals I’d feel like it was close to the equivalent of a championship.

  8. johnsacrimoni says:

My vote goes for Kidd but I don’t see it happening barring another trade. The Lakers will own the west for the next few years.

  9. rangerjohn says:

kidd although it is not gonna happen as long as he is in dallas

tracy i could handle for the simple reason of he is here in houston

  10. Kermit the Washington says:

This is tough. The trend now is to custom build your team to win a championship. So the odds of your favorite ringless player getting a ring are good, but which team is he going to be playing with at the time? Who knows?

  11. Big V says:

Without a doubt, it’s gotta be AI. The guy is a WARRIOR. Other than him, I’d go with Nash as well. I’ll have to add that I’m not very confident that either guy will succeed, though.

  12. DT says:

Caron Butler. It would complete his amazing turn around from his troubles coming up in Racine,WI. If he keeps improving every year he might just get a ring at some point.

Putting my homer tendencies aside, I’d say AI as well

  13. Rafa23 says:

AI, definitely #1 for me. he would probably be nearly as emotional as kg.
    at #2 i got reggie…oops
ok, then JO(probably no playoffs, but…

  14. Suciniac says:

Iverson by far.The polar opposite of Garnett in terms of the way they play and emote their feelings but true warrior nevertheless.

  15. Kermit the Washington says:

SoulOnIce: your name made me think of a figure skating competition, featuring D’Angelo and Corinne Bailey Rae lol

anyway, I woulda loved to see Grant Hill get one. Come over to LA, we got you son…

  16. YOUNGFED says:

    AI and McDyess

  17. shake&bake says:

I’d like to see AI and Kidd: Both deserve it. I’d also like to see Grant Hill win one. he’s classy and you got to kind of feel bad for the guy after all of the injuries he’s gone through.

  18. Blue says:

AI and Nash…the bleed the game!

I wanna see horry fill up both hands with rings! haha

I also want D-Wade to win another one to prove that the first one wasn’t a fluke!

  19. Ross says:

Ime Udoka (hey, I wanna see the Spurs win every other year, just so they can have some cool statistic that will one day make a killer trivia question).

  20. V says:

I’d love to see a.i. win it the man is something else but in denver i can’t see that happening unless they totally restructure that team cause they all just don’t work together. Denver basically plays their 5 and 3 bench players, watching boston, they’re truly a great team, with 7 bench guys that all play well

  21. Kudabeen says:

AI and KG are two of my favorite players all-time. Guys that don’t get the love and respect they deserve for non-basketball reasons. If AI can get in a better situation where he has a real team that likes playing together he can do it, but Denver isn’t that place…

    Young Guys Coming Up:

(Watching Iguadola, Dwight, and Randy Foye/Kyle Lowry (Villanova))

  22. Sam I Am says:

    Nash and Juan Dixon

  23. Bron42 had springs before slamball says:

    AI, Tmac

  24. Uhm... says:

    McDyess

  25. Uhm... says:

Antonio Mickedy Mc, Mickedy Mc, Mickedy McDiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiceeee

  26. yallallreadyknow says:

AI had his chance. no one feels sorry for him and he aint committed to TEAM enough to really want to win a ring.
he balls hard, but he aint COMMITTED…

steve nash and grant hill never even played in an nba finals….so you gotta cheer for them more; but i couldnt care less about either winning the chip.

dirk had his chance too. as did mcdyess in 2005.

you can’t feel bad/sorry for any player who played in the finals…that was there chance. they had their chance. i dont matter if their team wasnt better; dammit….they still had their chance.

  27. Reed Ewing Frazier says:

TMAC,Grant Hill,Stephon Marbury and Steve Francis

KNICKS UP all the rest down!!!

  28. Prof. TX says:

    Tracy McGrady

  29. djKianoosh says:

    AI hands down.

maybe he could join the Celtics, Lakers, who else? Spurs, Hornets, Portland? wishful thinking…

If you got a good defensive team around him with low post intimidators he can lead the league in steals again and people will say oh he’s sooo committed to the defense now.

As for him in Denver, compare them with the Celtics. Melo and AI sacrificed only so much of their game. Sure they gave up a ‘few’ shots, but they’re both still shooting like 20 times a game. Boston’s main guys gave up a bit more and look what happened…

  30. the fan says:

    along with everyone else
A.I., the answer deserves a bone

Melo, the best team player never gonna get it though

Boozer/Willaims, need i say more the next dy-nasty

Juwan Howard, i hate to say it but some one from the fab five needs to win one. really wish is was cweb or jalen

    Grant Hill, nuff said

    J. KIdd, what could’ve been

    S. Nash, what should’ve been

Shawn Marion, in miami anyways that way he can show phoenix he’s legit

Shaq, to show kobe up again then retire

  31. AI says:

AI but he wont get it in Denver therefore probably not while he still has All Star skills…will he be justified if he gets one on the downside of his career ala the Glove and Mitch Richmond by signing w/ a odvious contender for ish money?

Also how about Elton Brand? Come on yall the man has been a CLIPPER most of his career a effing CLIPPER!!!

  32. Tom says:

    Dikembe Mutombo

  33. Celts Fan says:

AI – that guy is amazing. He’s about 5’10″, 165 (don’t believe the listings, I’ve been within 10 feet of him and he’s no 6′, 180.) He should’ve lost a step by now, don’t know how he keeps going the way he has. Pound for pound, the toughest guy in the NBA and it’s not even close.

Grant Hill – it’d be a great story. Perserverance and whatnot.

Ron Artest – just to see David Stern have to give him the trophy!

CP3, Deron William – the game’s in great hands at the PG spot

Brandon Roy – classy as hell, mature beyond his years, and a hell of a basketball player. Plus, Portland deserves it after having to deal with the Jail Blazers (who were AMAZINGLY HILARIOUS, but that’s easy to say from afar, I’d be heated if they were my team) He may’ve (along w/ Oden?) saved basketball in Oregon.

    Dwight – Superman…

Steve Nash – should already have one. great job again Sarver. Only plays 1 end of the court, but damn is he fun to watch on it. that gifted first MVP (shoulda been Shaq’s) will have to do though, cuz it looks like the window’s closed…

Kevin Durant (love the kid, but ONLY if it’s IN Seattle or with another team/owner. Don’t reward Clay’s greed and sleaziness.)

the Hawks (I like all their young guys) – they’re quick, athletic, and seem to enjoy playing with each other. just a fun team to watch.

Gil – just for his blog and whatever new commercials/exposure he gets.)

LeBron – the King will claim his throne soon enough, I’m sure.

CB4 – seems like a funny guy, I like his game too.

Big Al – I love his game and watching him develop. Has TONS of post moves. Hopefully Minnesota gets good so he’s not that under-the-radar star that no one knows of. kid’s got a load of talent.

Elton Brand and TMac – it’s starting to get painful fellas…

  34. Big Freeze says:

AI, Dirk, and J Kidd had their chances in the Finals.

    TMac needs his.

  35. doc says:

I want Sammy Dalembert to get one.And Kevin Ollie and Lou Will. After that fantasy.I want Bron and AI to get thiers.

  36. Jeffrey says:

    T-MAC for sure.

  37. Brandon Hoffman says:

    Austin,

Of the players you mentioned, I’d like to see Steve Nash get a ring.

  38. GarethChantler says:

AI obviously, like people said, he’s an absolute warrior. But the most, I gotta give to Nash. He’s the active player in the league with the most playoff games and no Finals appearance. Now that KG, Allen, and Pierce all made the finals I think its gotta be a pretty wide margin too.

  39. Octopus Jonny says:

    Iverson, without a doubt.

  40. Myrie says:

I have no doubts most of you will enjoy this.
Do you think you know enough about basketball pictures to spot the differences?

check it out…pics of past NBA Finals. Can you find the differences?

  41. do it! says:

    AI!!!!!!!!!

He needs to opt out and go join Lebron in Cleveland!!!

  42. bron42 aka coffee black says:

good job namin half the NBA celts lol

  43. Daily boy says:

Grant Hill he really need to gone ahead and get his. I don’t know if he can accomplish that with the suns, Maybe go to CLEV, BOS, OR LA(Lakers) or N.O. Those are the only teams I can see winning it all in the next few yrs.

  44. Big Sia says:

    VINCE CARTER

    ……………………

  45. jamesinva says:

OMG AI in portland would be SICK. definately rooting for the blazers. been rooting for them since ’90 18 years and counting. regardless next season is going to be SO MUCH FUN

  46. Uhm... says:

james, are you by any chance 18 years old?

  47. rob stewart says:

I’d love to see Iverson with a ring but it’s not going to happen with Melo or George Karl in the picture. Send him to Detroit and maybe something might happen.

  48. Dagomar says:

    Lebron.

He’s the best player in the league, and he deserves at least a few. But I have a feeling he won’t get his first in Cleveland.

After him? Steve Nash for sure.

  49. Myrie says:

    Chris Webber and Dikembe Mutombo

  50. BxBaller says:

    A.I. T-Mac & Steph.

  51. daquest?on says:

allen iverson… he should immediatly demand a trade 2 boston

  52. word says:

    Kidd, Nash, T-Mac, A.I.

And not a damn one of them will win it with their current situations.. Danny Ainge gave a lot of people hope though

  53. Illmatic says:

Allen Iverson, no question. He’s a warrior and he leaves nothing on the court. After Garnett, I can’t think of anybody more deserving.

  54. DaPro says:

    TMAC, KIDD, AI.

There are a few others but these three are at the top

  55. GEE...doing the wop, running man, cabbage patch and mudfoot says:

DaPro I can get down with that list.

Honestly and I can’t stand the Jazz but I want Sloan to get one. Dude been trying so hard for so long.
I promise he needs to tweak that system though.

  56. tealish says:

Allen Iverson. One of the greatest ever. A real, real shame that he had to work with the sh*ts that he did. Melo wasn’t that big of a turd upgrade either.

  57. Jah says:

    Allen Iverson
    Jason Kidd
    Tracy McGrady

    …in that order.

  58. Rico says:

    Matt Harpring

  59. MBE18 says:

    J-Kidd and AI

  60. nick says:

    baron

  61. jamesinva says:

to “uhm” what kind of reply was that? because of my excitement at the little dream of “ai to portland” scenario? does it matter how old we are to dream of a superstar coming to play for your team? regardless if your 12 or 72 seeing aplayer like AI or a huge superstar to your team would be exciting. and no im not 18. what a moron

  62. jamesinva says:

    also to uhm:
Antonio Mickedy Mc, Mickedy Mc, Mickedy McDiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiceeee

yea great post what are you 15?

    DÖÖÖÖRK

  68. Young D says:

Allen Iverson deserves one, but will never get one on the Nuggets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  69. rathauneak says:

Iverson…then T-Mac. Lebron erased his name from my list when he referred to himself in the 3rd person in an interview as King James…

  70. Tom S. says:

    Big Z.

  71. loc says:

Raptors! I definitely wanna see them go far, CB4 is the man.

Also Id love to see AI get another shot a ring.

  72. doc says:

He called hiself King James now? What interview was this?People are funny as shit.

  73. KenAdams says:

    John Stockton!

  74. Jay G says:

Definitely Grant Hill. Grant Hill healthy was a beast on the wing………..

  75. byron says:

Kid Canada – Steve Nash. He was robbed once by Cheap Shot Bob, robbed again by rookie general manager Kerr who made a stupid trade, and although it is seeming less and less likely, it’d be great to see Steve get it done.

  76. Austin Burton says:

Explain how Nash was robbed by Robert Horry again?

  77. Dave says:

    - Dirk but it ain’t happening.
    - Carmelo but the Nuggets ain’t happening. Need major retooling.
    - LeBron if he keeps improving
    - Deron Williams but Utah gotta get rid of AK47 first

  78. BlazeMcHerbs says:

    Eric Snow
