You could always get Shaq in foul trouble, or just send him to the line and let him fail there, or play up-tempo and watch his slow a$$ drag across half court after the play is already over.
There weren’t these kinds of answers for Wilt.

I liked the commercial last night where players talked about who they remember watching and Dwight Howard says “I remember watching Olajuwon” because I really hope he doesn’t turn into the next Shaq. Hakeem had a more complete skill set.

6 MVP’s..all time leader in scoring…6 time NBA Champ…3 time NCAA champ…2nd in NBA history, games played. 3rd in NBA history blocked shots…3rd most NBA history, rebounds….and lest not forget the untouchable skyhook.

Shaq broke down back boards. But he broke them in a time when centers were scarce…the only true other center was Hakeem and we know what happened when they met…and you could shut him down by putting him on the foul line. Don’t get me wrong, Shaq was a friggin monster…but Kareem was just as untouchable as Wilt in his day.

Wilt is the most dominant, though not the best player in NBA history. My dad grew up in Philly, idolizing Wilt and we argue about this every time we talk basketball. Wilt was more than any one player (even Russell) could handle the entire game, though he isn’t Michael.

I put the difference in the best player of all time in their abilities in the clutch. Wilt was a liability at the foul line and probably cost himself titles because of it. No one on the those Bulls teams would have been nervous at all if Michael was on the line and needed to close the game there.

Wilt was the ultimate Big man. He was usually the quickest on the floor as well. World class athlete with an incredible work ethic that is vastly undervalued.

To be fair, Shaq was only in his 3rd or 4th year in the league when they (he and Hakeem) met in the Finals. Not exactly the height of his powers…

and Wilt was ahorrible foul shooter too, so you could’ve foulded him and put him on the line. Just back then, guys had too much pride to do that (wish it was still that way now.)

Fouling him didn’t mean anything…

I would just say check the history of how much of a beaten Wilt took and how he had to be convinced not to retaliate from guys blatant attempts at times to hurt him. NBA history never tell the whole story. The game that he dropped 100 pts he went to the line like 40 or 50 times (something crazy like that)…

FTs were a limitation, but his game was more than just low post dunks, so he got his shots off before contact and even after contact. If anything his missed freethrows didn’t help him from being hacked, but it didn’t stop him from dominating.

In Shaq’s defense we do need to consider that Wilt played in the day where there was no such thing as goal tending. There were times when Wilt would grab his own teammates shots off of the rim and dunk it back in.

Imagine how many points Shaq coulda scored if he could do the same.

if you’ve lived in philly you may have heard Sonny Hill on his radio show talk about Wilt form time to time. and he boasts about how Wilt was so damn dominant, that when you talk about records, you have to just set aside everything Wilt did and then talk about everyone else. He was just in a class by himself.

He was in an era where they didn’t pad assist stats and didn’t keep track of blocks. So it’s just difficult to compare. There are legends of Wilt getting monstrous stat lines like 30 points 40 boards 20 assists 10 blocks 10 steals, etc. hard to even imagine. but his competition couldn’t have been what shaq had to deal with, right?

Russell had much better teammates around him to offset Wilt.

Shaq did have somewhat tough, though limited, competition on different teams, like Rik Smits, Sabonis, Ewing, Admiral, Dream, Zo, etc.. different guys in different eras.

I gotta take people’s word for it that Wilt was the MDE cause I never saw it with my own eyes.

Damn everyone made good points all I will say is Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing is in the top ten and that Wilt is 1 Jabber is 2 and Russell is 3 after that it is beauty in the eye of the beholder but you know who I think is 4.

After watching the video I just have to ask one question, where was Wilt’s left hand? Those soft right hand finger-rolls over his defender would get sent back HARD if those short white guys would leave their feet on D. Anyways, Wilt is the MDE because numbers are number no matter how you get them. I just thought I would point out the lefty issue.

Its hard to say that wilt was the MDE because he played in a era where players were AFRAID of him. They literally would NOT jump or contest any of his shots because as they say “Wilt could break your arms and still dunk if you tried to block one of his dunks”. Wilt recorded 40 rebound games because he was 7 feet tall playing with guys 6’7″ and shorter!!!! He blocked 10 shots a game cause goal tending wasn’t thought of then, he got 20 assists because it took the whole team to quintuple team him so someone had to be open!!! And he averaged 10 steals because lets face it they tried to establish a inside game and he would just snatch the ball out of the air!!! Was he a beast? Yes, was he great? Yes, is he the MDE? Who knows, hell if I played in league with little 9 year olds (the equivelency of his opponents) I’d be the MDE too!!!!! The order in my opinion is as everyone says, Wilt, Kareem, Russell, The Dream, And then Shaq!!!!

If anything, that makes it even more clear that Wilt was the Most Dominant. Part of the reason Godzilla was a dominant monster is BECAUSE HE WAS BIGGER THAN EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING. And that made him more dominant than some human-sized being. And just to clarify, most of your All-Star centers back then were 6-9 minimum, with guys like Walt Bellamy, Walter Dukes and Nate Thurmond standing 6-11 or 7-feet. Wilt was 7-1.
