Breaking News: Elton Brand Accepts Sixers Offer
It’s being reported by ESPN.com that the moves that the moves Sixers made today in order be able to potentially offer Elton Brand more than $80 million over five years are enough to lure Brand east.
Elton will reportedly told the Sixers he will accept their offer, but he can’t be officially signed until midnight tonight. If this does go through, it instantly makes the Sixers serious players in the Eastern Conference while the Clippers, who after signing Baron Davis last week thought they were on their way to doing things, are left holding the bag. We’ll have full analysis of the deal in Smack tomorrow.

Mr.Wang says:
Well, sucks for the Clipps & Boom Dizzle…it was basically a Baron Davis-Corey Maggette swap, but man, the Sixers should hold it down next yr! BTW, first!

I wonder where this leaves Iggy at?

I don’t believe it.
I think there was a lot of truth to Brand’s desire to play with Davis and their friendship off the court makes it hard to believe Brand leaves LA.
Actually - it is pretty sad if he leaves LA - backing out on a verbal commitment to his team, his friend and all for money.
That said - you knew when Philly made that trade they knew they were getting someone.
Shit…Davis has to be pissed.

If the Sixers can land Brand AND JSmoove, I can see Celtics-Sixers in the East Finals.
I doubt that they could get both though, maybe they can get Brand and Maggette instead?
Or, they could sign Brand, then sign and trade Maggette to the Hawks for Smoove.
Just wishful thinking.
I’m guessing BDizzle will back out as well. Will he accept a midlevel year at the other LA team? The plot thickens…

davis aint pissed. he can take all the shots he wants and has $65 million reasons to smile in LA
i’m suprised brand left the clips. philly is hard on their star players…he better delivr for $82 million
i guess this mean the clips can go hard after josh smith

Damn EB, now you’re no better than Carlos Boozer. what a shame.

IGP says:
I’m fucking shocked at this. I can’t believe Elton Brand is backing out on the Clips. He was like the class act of the NBA.
Hopefully the Clips can get Josh Smith that would be nasty. They would still have a decent team with Smoove in the line up.
I mean I know money talks but still Brand that is dissapointing man.
July 8th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
kobeef says:
@Ocka
Good point. Brand better realize he set himself up as the next Boozer by backing out on his support for the clips and his buddy BD. This might actually be worse than Boozer.

A-Slam says:
what are ya’ll talkin about, I love this move. Elton Brand obviously felt that Boom Dizzle wasn’t enough help so he wanted to be in a better situation, and he is. Iguodala will get more help, and him and Dalembert will be an interior force in the east. The Sixers are now gonna be my east team to root for. Oh yeah lets not forget about Andre Miller
July 8th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
yallallreadyknow says:
i dunno about this.
i think la clips would be better (win more) with brand than the 76ers will win with brand.
you all tell me:
baron davis andre miller
cuttino mobley willie green/lou williams
al thornton andre iguadola
elton brand elton brand
chris kaman sam dam
which lineup appears to be able to win more games?

the line-up with the sixers is just more experienced than the clips line-up

Brand to me can also have a better locker room presence than Baron Davis
July 8th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
kobeef says:
@Y’all
Sixers have the better team of the two but I still think this is a shady move by Brand.
Sixers will start
PG - Miller
SG - Iggy
SF - Thad Young
PF - BRand
C - Dalembeast
That is a better team than LA.
I think Davis will back-out of his LA commitment. I can’t see him playing on a team that will be garbage.

Celts Fan "Kobe, Tell me how my ass tastes" says:
I’m w/ you YAll, and you didn’t even put in Eric Gordon, who if he’s even half as good as advertised, will signal Mobley’s return to the bench where he fuckin belongs.
btw, since guys can’t actually sign til tomorrow and these are just verbal agreements, does this mean maybe Baron won’t actually go to LA after all? I could see him changing his mind REAL QUICK when he hears this, calling up Nellie, saying he deserved to be benched at the end of the year and shit…

Dagomar says:
Wow, this is insane.
So Brand opts out to let the Clippers sign him some help. He agrees to accept less money as a result. Then the Clips manage to nab one of his good friends - one of the best points in the West. Brand gets offered more money by two other teams. And Brand bites? Wow. That’s a little shady. I know money is money, I know moving close to family can be a huge, huge draw, but . . . sounds pretty cold.
About Philly:
This is dangerous team. When healthy Brand is a legit franchise big man, and I like pairing him with a defensive monster like Dalembert. With one of the league’s most underrated points running the show and Igoudala providing athleticism on both ends of the floor, this is a tough, team team to play at any tempo. Philly might not win the East next year, but they’ve got a shot. What a coup for them!
About the Clippers:
You’ve got to seriously wonder if signing Baron Davis is in their best interest now. If they sign him he’ll be a big contract, an injury-prone, aging player, and a guy who won’t be too happy when the team starts losing. All that in a team full of youngsters? Better to forget about the Baron deal and rebuild with the young pieces they have now. Oh, and offer Josh Smith a ton of money instead. If they could somehow get him they’d have the nucleus of a nice young team, especially when they hit the lottery for a couple years.

although the clippers have a better team
clippers play in the west
76ers in the east. clippesr with brand would dominate the east.
they would barely survive in the west

Bron42 had springs before slamball says:
dominate the east? lol lets not go that far. Their core is still weak along with their bench. they’d be the equal ol steve francis and dwight howard their first year in orlado. both of them put up big numbers but get nothing from anyone else.

boomtho says:
you guys are all sayin how brand turned his back on the clips, but how bout boom dizzle screwin over gs? he was sayin all along he wasnt goin to opt out until the very last minute. shoulda just been up front the whole time so they coulda drafted a damn point guard. i hope the clips get nothin so baron doesnt win ish

Good thing Baron didn’t sign on the dotted line yet. As for Brand, I said in an earlier piece, $ talks.

djKianoosh says:
@johnsacrimoni that’s exactly what I was about to say! willie green and the dre’s are not exactly sharpshooters. unless maybe brand opens up things for them and gives them more open jumpers. you never know.
I like their depth at the front court now, but I have to believe another move is in the works to get a stud 3 point shooter. they gots ta get one. gots ta.
now, can dalembert just please forget about the offense and just focus on rebounds?! please?!?!! just do me a favor and board. that’s it. don’t call for the ball, don’t try any asinine sky hook. don’t foul out going after every blocked shot either, just alter shots and board. please, can you do that for me now? he’s gonna make me put a remote through the wall one day, i know it.
go sixers!!
get a 3 pt shooter on the ray allen level and let’s go for it this year!

For the NBA, we should just do away with the term “in principle” when talking about deals.
Nobody honors verbal commitments anymore. It’s all about money and the dotted line.
