Welcome to the Bay Area, MarcusMaybe the Warriors brass isn’t as confident about Monta Ellis being the one and only option at point guard as they made it seem. The Warriors just sent a future first-round pick to the Nets in exchange for Marcus Williams.
With the Nets’ acquisition of Keyon Dooling this weekend, Williams’ future in New Jersey has been in jeopardy. And in Golden State, he’ll find a situation where he can potentially see the floor for more than the 16.2 minutes per game he had last year.
The first-round pick could come anywhere from 2011 through 2015. It’s lottery protected in 2011, so if the Warriors make the playoffs that year, the Nets get it then. If it goes in 2012, the pick is protect 1-11, and it’s protected 1-10 in ‘13. If the pick doesn’t transfer until ‘13, the Nets will also get second-round selections in 2013 and 2015.

Good insurance policy and now Monta can get some minutes at the 2 also. He’s too good of a scorer to not play some 2 guard.

He should be good in the GS system. I thought a 1st round pick was a lot for him but after seeing how it’s protected, it seems ok.

Marcus seemed to have lost his confidence/swagger last year. Still a good pick up for the Warriors.

Hopefully he gets some PT in GS. Marcus had some decent moments in NJ before he got benched.

Man…I really wanted to see them go after Telfair who i think has more potential. Too bad Timberwolves resigned him already.

Marcus played well in what appeared to be a horserace system at UConn. GS gets out and runs. I think Marcus will thrive playing Nellie Ball. He’s a player that I suspect will play better with consistent minutes.

there’s only one player I know of who plays better with inconsistent minutes, and not everyone can be robert horry/will smith. Lets see if nellie will play him at all.

I’m with J-Dot. I thought Williams thrived best in the fast paced system at UCONN and would do well on a run and gun NBA team. I thought the Suns should’ve drafted him (or Rondo) in the 06′ draft. Williams would have been better suited studying under Nash for a few seasons. Now the question is whether or not Nellie will trust him enough to play him. But nevertheless I like the trade for Golden State.

The suns did draft Rondo, but they sent him packing to Boston.
And wasn’t NJ a run and gun team?!? I stopped watching them…

Celts Fan says:
@Wanabballer, technically that’s true, but Phx only “drafted” Rondo for Boston. The trade had already been worked out, just can’t be official til after the draft for some reason. The same way that Toronto technically drafted Roy Hibbert even though the pick had already been included in the JO deal.

i would take williams over telfair for his shooting and has more size. however telfair in this system could thrive very well.

This is a great pickup for Golden State. All Marcus Williams needs is consistent playing time, and he will be able to show what he can do. I think it helps Ellis too, because it allows him to stay at off-guard, where he is more effective. Williams knows how to set the table, get people easier shots, and score when he has to. Golden State won this trade, easily.
