Cavs Want James Posey
LeBron James (photo. Mannion)James Posey, one of the unquestioned heroes of the Celtics‘ championship run, has been playing the free agency field. Last summer, he didn’t sign with Boston until August, but this time around is looking to cash in much faster than that.
First up? The Cleveland Cavaliers. Posey’s representation has confirmed free agent talks with Cavs GM Danny Ferry but there’s nothing solid yet. Posey isn’t the magic piece that will help LeBron put Cleveland over the top, but it’s a definite step in the right direction. ‘Bron, much like Kobe, needs a tough, hard-nosed, gritty, dirty work defender to run with and Posey fits that bill exactly.
How much better would Posey make the Cavs?

hed put them over the top—dont forget he can knock down them threes too…i think Le Braun will come back and attack the way he did against detroit two years ago if posey’s on the court showing his guts for the team

wouldnt make a difference, he doesnt bring enough offence, leaving lebron to still jack pointless jumpers and blaming his team. he’d help on defense but the team is already good there anyway.

Damon says:
hed make them a lot better. but with over the top you mean big time contenders?
I think it would still be hard to beat boston or detroit.
I know they went to 7 games with the celtics, but boston played average for their standards the first two rounds.
so thats no measurement.
imagine the celtics playing the cavs like the pistons or lakers. I really think the rebirth of jesus made the difference.
but back to the cavs. lebron would say: never underestimate a team lebron james is on. so i think they are the third best team in the east until lebron proves otherwise in the playoffs.

Lakers need to grab this dude, he’s exactly what they need

He’s exactly what a lot of teams need. Whichever contender throws the most $$$ at him will probably get him (don’t blame him at all either, it’s not like he’s ever been a big money guy. get them $$$ in the last real contract of your career, I just hope it’s from us.)
btw Dime, a post on James Posey and LeBron’s the picture? That’s cold…

cavs need the following:
PG: kirk hinrich or steve blake
SG: raja bell or mike miller
SF: lb-james
PF: kenyon martin or zach randolph
C: brad miller or etan thomas
and they need to get rid of everyone else they got; except for maybe lil punk ass boobie

The most important lesson learned in the NBA in the past 2 years is (and the Cavs should keep this in mind):
“Don’t try to sign a PF from Duke cause they will screw you over” (thanks to Dagwaller for pointing this out)
You have to admit that it is pretty funny that Brand “pulled a boozer” and both are PF’s from Duke.
The official term for backing out of a verbal commitment to re-sign with your team is “pullling a Duke”

dagwaller says:
It’s true. Keep an eye on Luol Deng - another Duke forward who I don’t expect to stay with the team that drafted him.
When you get recruited to a front-runner school, you’re probably not the kind of guy that wants to stick around and establish something great. You’re probably just a selfish prick.

Dagomar says:
Hard to say.
The Cavs are extremely underrated in the playoffs. They play D, they rebound, they have the best player in the league. They played those Celtics harder than any other team because of those three factors.
Posey would be a nice addition; with Lebron that’s two enormously physical, long guys on defense. Still, what the Cavs REALLY need is a genuine number two option. In the long run, they need a dynamic two-way big man and a second playmaker. Not sure if they can get those things before 2010, and that’s their problem.

He somebody you get after you got a nice squad already. Not when you stink besides one dude and gotta give him the rest of the bread.I know Bron like dudes getting Elton and B-diddy and they tryin to give me this prick.I can see the writing on the wall in two years. Its Hova baby!

Doc is right on this one.
Posey only looks good when he’s got KG, Pierce & Allen doing the real work for him. Put him on any other team & he’s painfully mediocre. But good for him though, Robert Horry has made a career of riding on the backs of giants.

Dane says:
Ya idk about posey’s potential impact on the cavs…they need a lot more than just him to solve their offensive inadequacies…
With that said i was at 3 celtics playoff games this year including the blowout in game 6 for the finals…and let me tell you Posey and House off the bench gave us that win….they came right off the bench in like a 4 point game and drained like a combined 4 3’s in a row…but dont get it twisted posey isnt a 20 ppg scorer…hes merely a 12 ppg scorer, great defensively and brings a tremendous amount of energy to the game…
I hope the celtics get him back but I wouldnt want to sign him for 4 years and 5.58 mil/yr … he’ll be 35 by the end of that contract and wouldnt be nearly as productive…i think hes got maybe 2 more solid years left

What the Cavs need is some George Karl, Greg Poppovich, deliberated offenses, not Mike Brown calling pick and rolls all game. Pick and rolls work, just not all game.

posey is exactly the type of cold blooded goon any championship contender makes. i cant remember how many times ive seen him open for a corner three in front of the opposing teams bench and DRILL it in the clutch. not to mention hes a great defender. i really think if the celts didnt have posey lakers would have won

needs, not makes.

Dane says:
There is no doubt that Posey had a positive impact on the Celtics championship win this year….however to say that the Lakers would have won without the celtics having Posey is completely ignorant. I dont know if you realized how bad the Lakers defense is…but even in the celtics losses they got to the hoop whenever they wanted…the lakers have no interior defense so even without posey the celtics still would have won…
as the great Bob Ryan from the Boston Globe said…
“On June the 17th 2008, the Boston Celtics successfully completed the NBA’s first 6 game sweep, racking up their 17th championship and ending a drought that lasted 22 years.”

Posey would help out but he doesn’t answer their main need, which is some offensive help.
