Converse ‘72 What If Pack

Most of you guys reading this weren’t even thought of in 1972, but in the history of USA Basketball, that year will forever go down in infamy. Team USA, which included Doug Collins, lost to the USSR after initially being declared the winner. Due to a contentious scorekeeper “malfunction,” the USSR team was given two additional chances to win the game … and they did 51-50.
The U.S. protested the medal ceremony and at this very moment the players’ silver medals still reside in a vault in Switzerland.

To commemorate this notorious milestone in basketball history (and with the 2008 Olympics just a couple of weeks away), Converse took their iconic 1976 Pro Leather and created a 1972 pack featuring the Pro Leather Hi, Ox, and Converse 0100.
The Pro Leather Hi features suede that would’ve have been worn back in ’72, as well as gold on the heel and tongue to rightfully honor the ’72 Men’s National Team. The Ox is similar to the Hi, but it is a low top shoe, and the 0100 bares designs that honor the unique look of the 1972 Olympic Games. The pack is a definite buy for collectors.
The Pro Leather Hi ($70), Ox ($65), and 0100 ($80) go on sale mid-August and will only be available in China and at Foot Locker House of Hoops.

Very ncie kicks - but seriously, get over the ‘72 game! USA lost, Russia won. However it happened that is what the record book shows. Should Converse make a ‘02 What If Pack for the should-have-been-NBA-finalist-probably-champions Sacramento Kings also?? sheesh!

Not Russian, not American - I know the history and yes most def shady - but what the shoe stands for just comes a bit across as American sour grapes…

To this day, the US refuses the silver medal.
If you are not first, you are last.
I simply refuse to work tomorrow! Go USA Go!
