Danilo Gallinari Impressive in Knicks Scrimmage
Danilo Gallinari (photo. Matt Brown)NY Post Knicks writer Marc Berman is with the team’s summer league squad out in Las Vegas and had a chance to watch the team scrimmage last night. Berman came away quite impressed with what he saw from Danilo Gallinari:
On the eve of the summer-league opener, all eyes were on Danilo Gallinari, who looked just fine. “Gallo” (Italian for rooster) really runs the court beautifully and has an excellent handle, drives splendidly with the left hand. He can bring the ball upcourt without a hitch..
He should fit in very well with D’Antoni’s run and gun offense. On one play, he went coast to coast, outran the defense for a monster stuff.
Donnie Walsh arrived in Vegas and watched Gallinari scrimmage live for the first time. The coaching staff is most impressed with Gallinari’s court awareness, which can’t be taught. He can definitely find the open guy. His outside shot wasn’t money tonight, but everyone whose seen him the past two weeks says he can really shoot it. David Lee David Lee said today he may be their best outside shooter this season. He is going to get banged around a little bit on defense his first year. He has to get stronger. But he’s 19.
We still find it a little weird that no other teams seemed the least bit interested in Gallinari on draft night. We know that he made it clear that he wanted to play in New York, but there wasn’t even a minor rumor involving another team trying to grab him in the lottery.

Too soon to tell with Danilo Gallinari. He looks like this years version of Yi Jilian.

He was just assessing his skills off the only thing he had to go on. It was either that, or say nothing. I’m sure people in NY wanted to hear something rather than nothing. He didn’t crown him, he talked about how he had to get stronger and didn’t shoot well.

Gallinari did better than Bargnani in the Euroleague, and at a younger age. Draft stock on euros is way down now. Gallinari could have went at #1 in past years. Knicks definately made the most logical draft choice.

I’m confused. Gallo looked impressive scrimmaging against other Knicks players, right? Don’t MOST pro ball players look better when matched up with the Knicks??? I’m just not sure that playing well against the Knicks is an accurate measure of ability at the pro level.
