Dwyane Wade’s Olympic Diary
In preparation of 8.8.08, the opening day of the Beijing Games, Team USA got together yesterday for a one-day tour of New York before heading off to Vegas. We were there for the Big Apple experience.
In addition to our insight into the day’s events, Dwyane Wade took down his impressions of his first day with the full complement of Team USA. Wade clearly envisions himself as one of the young guys - a goofy trio of LeBron, Wade and ‘Melo - who clearly have developed a clique that doesn’t include Kobe.
Check out Dwyane’s insight HERE…
“We have a lot of fun together on the court, but we also have fun together off the court,” writes Wade. “Friday night we all got together off the court. Myself, LeBron, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Carlos Boozer all had a chance to get away from basketball at a club and really chill. We’re going to have fun together and we’re going to keep doing it with the rest of our teammates as well. While I might be one of the funniest guys on this team, LeBron is by far the craziest guy on this team. With him, it doesn’t matter, he will say anything. Carmelo is very silly. We keep J-Kidd (Jason Kidd) and Kobe (Bryant) young because we keep them laughing a lot.”

Hopefully all of that off the court bonding can translate into a Gold Medal for the US. I’m rootin for them to smash all those who get in the way, but as you know in the words of the Great Kevin Garnett “ANYTHING IS POSSIBLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it me or there some kind of Bias towards Kobe on this site?
“a goofy trio of LeBron, Wade and ‘Melo - who clearly have developed a clique that doesn’t include Kobe.”
Geez why didnt they mention J Kidd cuz i read Dwade say his name in the same breath.. And why not say it doesnt include Dwight Howard?? he wasnt even mentioned in this article..
And last but not least.. the poll question to my right.. WHO THE HELL SHOULD TAKE THE SHOT?? Maybe Melo but he lost his credentials this year.. And Lebron hasnt really hit a clutch game winning JUMPER yet.. I know Kobe is the most hated/talented player in the league but get off it.. Lets talk about Jkidd only being in this because he is good luck charm.. with a wee bit of defense left..
Lol i love Dime but get off o Kobe’s anti nuts please?? I hate him too and im a laker fan.. Hes a spoiled little kid who never had to live a real life.. but hes a baller and there are worst wife beating, drug addicted, underachievers in the league to hate than a hardworking, striped out (3 rings), monster on both sides of the court.. Damn..
Always will be an East Coasr Bias..

Isn’t Kobe only 4-5 years (29/30 vs 26) older than D-Wade…BBall are very different I guess.
@Lakeshow
I thought that was odd that Dwight wasn’t mentioned in the “clique”. I would think he would be more fun to be around than Wade, Melo or LeBron, but maybe he is still in that “Dark Place” Van Gundy was describing when Dwight was getting focused on winning…

The truth is Kobe = page views, and poor talentless hacks have to improve their readership anyway they can. Yep, been reading dime for a about four years now, i know for a fact they do hate them some Kobe beef. Pick any Kobe related issue (Shaq, MJ, Lebron is better, whatever) and read through the archives, Dime has always taken the anti Kobe side. If you think the online version is bad, you should see some of the print editions. Funny, a black mag hating on a black jock, my guess is that some out there think he is not black enough, not really one of us, he is not ghetto (like it is something to be proud of?). He is not thugged out, running around drunk at 2.00 AM in the morning. Hey, i read what i want, disregard the heck out of everything else, most of these Idiots sweating Kobe probably have never voted in their lives but this dissing Kobe thing is important and must be done as often as possible.

iirc, dwight doesn’t go out at all, just stays home and play video games and watch movies. as for kobe, he’s more mature then them, so thats what dime means (i think) they are probably making pranks and such and i don’t see kobe doing that

Sounds like Wade was forming a threesome with LeBron and Melo and it so happens that Kobe and Dwight were assed out … don’t try and read to much into this so called diary.

i’ve been reading dime for a few years now, and i have never felt the material being anti-kobe. i am a lakers and kobe fan, so i think i would definately catch on.
dime recognizes game. and they’ve repeatedly referred to kobe as the best basketball player on the planet. both in the print, and online.
2 years ago, they had the 81 cent subscription special in honor of kobe dropping 81.

Yo LD,
Probably because they would have looked like dips if they didnt acknowledge the second greatest feat in NBA scoring history.. its not at all anti-kobe but it damn sure isnt pro-kobe.. Can anyone say pro-Lebron or pro-Dwade? I’ve seen Lebrons mug shot on the smacks 80 some odd times and its because he had a “sick double pump dunk on DJ Mbenga”. (lol)
Also if they didnt call him the best that would be like someone saying LT isnt the best running back in football.. and who would give them credibility for a stance like that??
Like i said, i love the smacks.. im hooked on this site but most of the hatin is between the lines.. oh well who cares.. I got going cuz i thought the last part of that Clique comment was immature.. maybe they know something i dont..

Dagomar says:
On this team, anyone can take the last shot. If it came right down to it, Kobe probably would because he’s older and more experienced than most of those young guys, even though Lebron could probably do as good a job in the clutch.
And it would make sense for Wade to hang out with those young guys. I’m wondering: why isn’t Bosh in that group? Seems he’s friends with most of them, after all.

Lebron could not do ‘as good a job in the clutch’. T
International ball = sophisticated and well-developed zone D
Zone D = your clutch shot will NOT be a layup/dunk
Not a layup/dunk = jumpshot
No way in hell would I want DWade (well, MAYBE, just maybe the mid range) or Lebron taking a game wining jumpshot over the likes of Kobe (or even M-Redd or D-Wills for that matter)

LakeShow84 says:
Thanks you SayItAintSo.. Lebron only got lay ups in the clutch and he makes those because defenders are terrified of a last minute foul call (ala Dwade game 5 finals).. i give him props for being smart but that stops there..
I would give it to Melo if they triple Kobe.. and all the fellas on that roster would agree..

Lake Show since when did the layups Lebron got at the buzzer not count for game winners.
July 1st, 2008 at 10:26 pm
SayItAintSo says:
Its not so much that they don’t count as it is, he wont be getting them in international play against those intense zone defenses. So! You put the ball in his hands during this hypothetical clutch situation and chances are he doesn’t get to the hole…chances are these fundamental teams (knowing BronBron’s weakness) turn him into a jump shooter…and FROM DEEP too.
Or scenario two! He miraculously finds his way to the cup (and I’m a firm believer that miracles are common with Bron)…as mentioned these teams are smart and will foul him. Again, turning him into a jumpshooter, albeit stationary and unguarded from the foul line but knowing how Lebron finishes, I’m sure an opposing coach would rather watch him try to take the game from them at the line than in the paint.

LakeShow84 says:
Since i said so.. If he hit half game winning jumpers and half game winning layups i wouldnt say squat and give props to a clutch player.. i watched him go for his bread and butter game winner and draw a charge this year in the playoffs.. He started his career airballing game winners (so did Kobe) but he hasnt even tried to stick one since.. It wont work especially with International refs and the zone is MUCH better internationally.. he wont get there and he wont get the call..
I forgot about Dwade too though.. he has the heart and clutch in him to hit a nice 10-15 foot J to seal it..
Nothin personal Doc but everyone says Lebron is so clutch.. i havent seen it.. like i said its not hard to figure it out when defenders are afraid to touch you (jordan rules anyone?) that your best way to win is to drive but it puts you 1 on 3 and a J is 1 on 1 with space.. this wont be the NBA and the voters of the poll agree.. but i love Lebrons athleticism and passing skills.. cluth?? im still waiting.. he should get there though..

Skeeter McGee says:
LeBron probably won’t hit any real jumpshots in the clutch but dude did lead all of Team U.S.A. in FIBA in shooting percentage, and I watched that shit so I know all his shots weren’t just lay-ups. He even went like 11-11 in a game and like 60% of the shots he took that game were pull-ups. I’m not disagreeing with y’all but just sayin…
And you know Kobe doesn’t give a fuck what DIME magazine or anyone else says or writes. Especially when it’s a dumb ass statement put in just so they can tag “Kobe Bryant” for the story. Back when he was younger we all knew he didn’t like going to the clubs with the Lakers teammates and was pretty much an introvert, so what makes you think dude is gonna change all that? He’s all business and I’m fine with that as long as it means GOLD…
