James Posey’s agent is saying that his client has signed a 4-year deal with the New Orleans Hornets. They apparently gave Posey the money and contract length he was looking for. Supposedly, the Celtics would only agree to offer him three years (even though that’s where he says he wanted to stay) and the Cavs, well, who knows? Obviously not enough…

Hornets were this… close to a Western Conference title shot..they could be having a parade down Bourbon Street come June!!!

The Spurs didn’t need Maggette man, that dude is a bum, and he woulda messed up the chemistry, he’s better off in Golden state.

Dang dime you are fast. I was typing out my rant in the Smack tread and you already had it up.
I think this is a bad move by Boston. Posey was one of our best defender and clutch 3 point shooters especially in the playoff. Now we lost our best and most consistent bench player because we didn’t want to add a extra year on his contract. If the Celts signed Posey to a 4 year deal, the would only felt the luxury tax implication in year 1 and probably year 2 of the deal. Great move Boston, great move.

The only reason this sucks for the Lakers is because now the Hornets have some one To stick Kobe.
Nobody is scared of Posey doing anything other than knocking down a few 3s on O.
Bigger picture is the West Continues to stack the decks and make it harder to make the playoffs.
This is my prediction
1. Lakers
2. New Orleans
3. San Antonio
4. PHX
5. Portland
6. Clips
7. Houston
8. Dallas

Wow… the Hornets are looking DEEP.
@Scott - No I don’t think this means the Lakers need to rush out and grab Artest. Let’s remember that with a healthy Bynum (Stress healthy), the Lakers are going to be incredible. They should still consider it for sure. If anything they have to keep their ears to the street to see if the Celtics try to nab him up.
That would be nutts. KG and Ron Ron on the same team??

Man Up says:
Great pick up for the Hornets and a big loss for the Celtics. Posey was instrumental in the Celtics championship run. He hit big shots, played tough D even on the other teams best player and really just had a presence when he was in the game. He wasn’t even trying to hit the Celtics in the head in terms of asking for an outrageous salary either. Wow They will regret letting a glue guy like that get away. On the other hand the Hornets know they are close and JP puts them a little closer. His defensive presence, toughness, and attitiude is really going to help that young team. Now the Lakers should counter by getting Ron Ron to help him take some of the pressure off the soon to be 30 years old Kobe Bryant. Fellas can I get an AMEN.

Borgs says:
Boston will regret not having James Posey next season, maybe even for season 2009-10, but they were right not to match the Hornets’ offer. It’s a ludicrous overpayment for Posey’s play, especially at his age. Check out Hollinger’s article on the sgning. The odds are definitely against good value for the Hornets.
If I were a Boston fan, I’d be happy my team didn’t match the offer. Just like last season when, as a Utah fan, I was elated that the Jazz didn’t go the extra mile for a declining Mo Pete. Conceivably, in just over a years’ time, the Hornets will have two old wings with a couple of years at too much money left on their deals, and almost no game to speak of. Meanwhile, they’ll be unable to sign extra help in an effort to encourage CP3 to stay.

Fish says:
First off: Horry was more talented.
The comparison of their game has some depth though. Posey has the capacity to disappear for stretches at a time if games are inconsequential. There were periods with the Grizzlies and Heat where you would barely register that he was with the team at all. That said though, I’m sure the Hornets will stay in contention and that is all Posey seems to need to actually make an effort.
