Knicks Sign Anthony Roberson

Stephon MarburyThe official end of Steph in NYC?

So this is what jacking shots in NBA Summer League, not even trying to play point guard will get you: a two-year deal to play point guard for the New York Knicks. The New York Post is reporting that is exactly what has happened for Peep Roberson.

With Peep, Chris Duhon and Nate Robinson all locked in, that’s a pretty crowded group of guys to play minutes at the point. Not to mention where Stephon Marbury fits in with all of this. The answer is that he doesn’t. Even with all his issues, we understand how a guy with Hall of Fame numbers would not be cool losing tick and/or his roster spot to Chris Duhon and a career D-Leaguer.

  1. Truth says:

The knicks suck!! Why!! Bad Management. I think all of the knicks higher ups partake in illegal substances!!

  2. Ocka says:

trade, waive and tank NY trade, waive and tank.

  3. hahns says:

i cant blame front office for doing this…but i wish they would give marbury ONE more chance…

    i mean anthony roberson..?? really???

btw, espn has this thing going tracking the cities that have the best prep school nba ballers all time and marbury got snubbed for SMUSH PARKER. wtf.

  4. Austin Burton says:

That’s unacceptable. I don’t care how much you hate Steph now, he was PHENOMENAL in high school.

  5. Justice says:

This is bs, knicks front office needs to wake the f up,labron is not coming to that hell hole, we suck donnie!trade eddy and zach, jerome james, jarred jeffries, malik rose for some draft picks and a couple franks lets get this this rolling properly,f it, steph is my boy but get him out of there too,we need new blood to get this stench off of us…if we can get these 6 dudes out we can start new get 6 dudes from the cba who cares call john starks, oakley, charles smith who cares,we only need them for 2 years to tank…

but why get another dude that jacks more than steph and doesnt have a position and is not even 25% of the player that steph is?

  6. Mike says:

So, the knicks will probably buy-out Steph, right? There’s no way anyway trades for him at his current salary.

But after the buy out, he can sign one of those crazy low-ball free agent offers. Maybe we’ll see him in a Warriors uni. Anyone else need a PG?

  7. Big Daddy says:

I’m sure that guy posting in the Marbury HOF watch last year by the name of ‘Andy Buckets’ was planted by dime to give Marbuys some support…. Dude was getting nailed by everyone in the debate.

Surely a guy with as much skills as Marbury could have done something useful in the right environment. It may be too late for him to turn it around in the NBA now though. Any cities fans would riot seeing him show up on their team.

  8. Big Daddy says:

    Heat need a PG…

  9. Imperial-Mel says:

the cock is all New York has

  10. Michorizo says:

Don’t bash the COCK or he will bust in your face!

  11. Andy Buckets says:

    B.Daddy,
As a straight man I can’t say your whole name, with that said, I wasn’t planted by DIME to defend Steph, I think that he has HOF numbers and is often the scapegoat for alot of shit that happens with the Knicks.

Now that they seem to have sealed the deal to get him out of there, they now have 3 pgs that together barely equal his numbers from last season!!

With Duhon, Peep, and Nate are they really solving the pg problem in NYC? Duhon is in NYC now and his party game as we all know is STUPID, Peep is not a pg that can run D’Antoni’s system because he is a score first guard AND Nate is the same way. Go Figure.

  12. Austin Burton says:

Numbers-wise, Steph has a legit Hall of Fame argument. So I don’t bash anyone who thinks he should be in. Can’t argue with math.

  14. Justice says:

this roberson dude shoots anytime he sees the rim, dont we already hacve nate to do that? and this guy isn’t phucking with nate so why take him? maybe nate is on the block?

i can see some teams going after nate,he would actually fit well in nellie ball, and he is a west coast guy…as for steph only veteran teams would take that kind of risk and it will be a real shitty contract but he has too much talent to be out of work for long…

  15. Truth says:

    @Andy Buckets
I agree, the problem still isn’t resolved by signing two BUMS!
And B.Daddy, that is some gay a*s sh*t naming yourself that gay name on a all dudes website!! LOL!! I mean I could see if this was a dating web site, then I would just call you desperate. But this is a B.Ball site and you call yourself that sh*t? Gay, Gay, Gay!!!!!!!

  16. Big Daddy says:

Lol at that 1st comment Andy.

Yeah, it seems like NY are collecting spare parts which doesn’t seem like the answer to their issues… tip of the iceberg if you know what i mean.

Dime: My history of NBA knowledge doesn’t go back that far (starts with the MJ era) - has anyone been selected for the HOF that has been as hated as Marbury (or even close)?

  17. PALakerFan says:

Marbury has become everyone’s whipping boy, and that is plain stupid. Dude still has major quickness and skill. He is what he is - a shoot first point guard with decent assist numbers and little defense. He’d still be coveted by a ton of teams when he gets bought out by the Knicks.

By the way Knicks fans, sorry about getting stuck with Donnie Walsh. The only difference between him and Isiah is that he’s an old white dude who quietly sucks, while Zeke was a cocky black guy who made big noise and sucked.

The Knicks would be better off by having Marbury come back this year, starting, jacking up tons of shots in an effort to pad his numbers and then trading him for something of value. Just imagine - Marbury starts and plays 36-40 minutes, averages 20 pts, & 8 assts. Guaranteed a team trades for him and the Knicks get a quality young piece along with an expiring contract in return. They aren’t going to be good anyway with Chris Duhon so why not try it???

  18. G says:

Steph has cetainly F-ed up no arguing that. His antics have been ridiculous and his play on the court has left fans wondering what happened to the Marbury of old. But then again the whole Knicks organization has been F-ed up. It wasn’t that long ago that Steph was a premiere PG in the leauge. Players dont forget how to play. They end up in bad situations and some (like Steph) are more prone to losing their motivation and their mind, than others. But dude still has game. Someone needs to take a chance on him because whatever they have to give to get him (provided its not his huge contract) they will get back and then some.

  19. word says:

damn the knicks are really getting mishandled by some retards aka mike d’antoni who i know had a big influence on the draft pick and now this? and duhon ! damn i think stephon wherever he goes will put up some legit numbers. i’m seein this guy on tv with a star tattooed on his head but he didn’t sound crazy so I got faith in starbury.

  20. Spliff 2 My Lou says:

Coach Mike D is gonna lose his mind. He was a within one bad call of a full blown heart attack every game last season with a winning team and Nash at the helm. With the Knick pg situation I can’t see him surviving the season. Literally.

  21. Austin Burton says:

@BD — Rick Barry wasn’t very popular with media and other NBA people.

  22. Justice says:

I FEEL THE NEED TO GET IT STARTED EARLY!!!

    FIRE DONNNIE, FIRE DONNIE

FIRST U HIRE MIKE WITH AVERY JOHNSON,JVG,AND MARK JACKSON AND SILAS AVAILABLE ALL DEFENSIVE MINDED TOUGH GET IN UR FACE COACHES THAT NY WOULD LOVE…

THEN U GET A DUDE NAMED COCK IN THE DRAFT OVER JARED BAYLESS OR ERIC GORDON!

THEN U GET A SHORT 2 GUARD THAT’S WORST THAN STEPH AND IS MORE OF A GUNNER WITH NATE,MARDY,CHRIS,AND FRED JONES STILL ON THE ROSTER WTF!!

  23. Andy Buckets says:

    People are seeing the light!!!!

    CHUUUUUUUUUUUUURCH!!!!

  24. D'Antonio says:

I can’t believe NY “Fans”. Why all the negativity ?
D’Antoni turned Phx from nothing to a team that should have won the title last year (if the refs had not f***ed them out of the finals in the SA series).
And how did he do it? With chumps like Raja Bell, Boris Diaw or Leandro Barbosa, players thrown away by most any GM.
D’Antoni teams play in a certain way and use in a particular way players that would suck on most teams.

Of course he knows that Marbury has 700% more talent than Roberson (at least). But he dribbles too much (which stops the offense) and is hated by most of the Knicks team. He’s just not worth the complication.

Anyway: just watch the Knicks play and be a little patient. Remember what you had last year…

  25. John Starks says:

Peep must’ve been signed in case there’s 1.4 seconds left in the game and the Knicks are down by 3, and coach wants to put 5 three-point shooters on the floor.

Other than that, I don’t see why this was done, especially after one summer league showing.

And I’ve actually liked the Knicks’ moves so far. To whoever said Walsh is like Isiah… SMH. Walsh at least considers the future when signing people to contracts and making trades. Not to mention ppl around the league actually like him.

  26. Justice says:

It’s not d’antoni’s fault it’s walsh’s, what’s the last team to win a title without preaching defense? anyone…anyone..crickets! he shouldn’t have been hired in the first place..

new yorkers and most people from the north east region/tri state area like gritty, hard working, defensive minded teams, big ben may actually be able to find a home with us now that i think about it,cause we have enough gunners we just need workers now..trade curry!

  30. Austin Burton says:

I wouldn’t say PHX was “nothing” when D’Antoni got there. That same core of Steph, Marion and Amare had been in the playoffs just a year or two beforehand.

  31. John Starks says:

I can’t believe ppl are calling for the GM to get fired over a summer league signing for the last spot on the roster.

  32. fiyaman says:

believe it Starks i screaming for them to get rid of ur ass when u cost us the ring some yrs ago so u cant talk.

beside i never wanted them to get him from the begining

  33. John Starks says:

you sound like you weren’t even born when Starks was an All-Star on the Knicks.

Knicks wouldn’t have even made the Finals that year if it wasn’t for Starks. True story. Look it up, or ask your dad.

  34. Justice says:

IM NO GM BUT I THINK WE NEED TO BE GETTING RID OF PLAYERS NOT GETTING NEW SHITTIER ONES..WE ARE SCREWED IF THIS IS WHAT WE GO TO WAR WITH

    Randolph Morris F-C 22
    Jerome James F-C 32
    David Lee F-C 25
    Zach Randolph S PF 27
    SMALL FORWARDS
    Danilo Gallinari SF 19
    Malik Rose F 33
    Renaldo Balkman S F 24

    Fred Jones G-F 29
    Jared Jeffries G-F 26
    Wilson Chandler G-F 21
    Quentin Richardson G-F 28
    POINT GUARDS
    Stephon Marbury PG 31
    Nate Robinson G 24
    Jamal Crawford G 28
    Chris Duhon PG 25
    Mardy Collins G 23
    REBERSON

  35. fiyaman says:

hey dont mock our team its good enough for John Starks

  36. D'Antonio says:

“Hi, my name is fiyaman and I don’t understand why Walsh did not trade Jared Jefferies and Jerome James for Dwight Howard and Lebron James yet. Maaan, this guy Walsh is a dumbass”

I am not a big Walsh fan (I think he should have dumped ZBo to the Clips and I don’t like Duhon too much), but all I say is: “wait and see”.

As for why they signed Roberson, he instantaneously becomes one of the Knicks best shooters (and not another slasher like all the other guards). They needed one and he’ll be a cheap fix.

  37. Kobeef says:

    @Austin and Andy

You guys are living in the past. Also (and this has been said about a million times) numbers don’t tell the whole story.

Did you know Starbury is the 2nd highest paid player in the NBA? More than Lebron, Kobe, Wade, Paul.

The past 3 years Steph has been an absolute trainwreck. I am not sure what happened to the guy but he is not the same player he was - mentally or physically. Accept it.

Add to that lack out output his major attitude issues and Steph ranks among the all time great locker room cancers. Even Z-Bo looks like a good teamate compared to Steph.

  38. Austin Burton says:

I didn’t say they told the whole story. But they aren’t meaningless. And if we’re talking about Hall of Fame merits: EVERYTHING is based on the past.

  39. ERIC says:

As gifted as Marbury is physically, he is mentally unstable. Did anyone see his on-air interview/commentary during the Knicks summerleague game? That dude is on something? High on life?

I’ve always been a Marbury fan & supporter but ever since last summer with his outrageous antics when the Knicks got Z-Bo, then all the drama with Isiah, now the tattoo on his head, its time for him to get out of NY.

  40. bigdoggchad says:

You guys must not have read the whole ESPN City High article because it says the best players to come out of those cities in the last ten years. I believe Marbury graduated 13-14 years ago.

  41. Big V says:

@PALAkerFan: I couldn’t agree with you more on what you were saying about Steph and raising his trade value. He can obviously get his buckets and dime when he wants to, and it doesn’t look like we’re much improved over last season anyway.

@D’Antonio: I think you’re giving way too much credit to Mike here. Remember that there’s a guy on the PHX roster whose last name is Nash, who could probably find YOU a couple of wide open buckets in an NBA game (that you’d probably brick, no doubt, but that’s besides the point). Let’s not laud D’Antoni as the savior of lost teams. I’m still a skeptic, but a hopeful one.

  42. JC says:

lololololol get your money Peep! Wait a second, is he really still worthy of nickname treatment? HS All-American status only goes so far. He did his thing-thing kinda sorta at Florida, but I think the Peep moniker should be shelved until he starts getting consistent minutes. Could this signing be linked to David Lee, a former teammate of Roberson’s? Maybe the Knicks have had a change of heart and want to show a little love to Lee by bringing on an old friend(?) That said, Go Gators, and get your money Anthony!

  43. K Dizzle says:

    Austin

    Rick Barry?
Top 50 all-nba Rick Barry or leadin the underdog Warriors to the 75 chip Barry?
Rick Barry was an a-hole that would win at any cost.
Please tell me the last time Steph even looked like he even cared.
If dude wasn’t from New York, we’d never even be talkin about a point guard whose assists have gone from 9.2 to 4.7 in the last 5 years. He’ll be 40 and heads’ll still be talkin that “Give Steph one more chance” mess
Shoulda stomped his ego and stayed in Minny with KG, ish coulda been different

  44. Big V says:

“we’d never even be talkin about a point guard whose assists have gone from 9.2 to 4.7 in the last 5 years.”

That’s an unfair comment to make without assessing the circumstances around it.

  45. Reed Ewing Frazier says:

Everbody has made good points I did not like Donnie Walsh being hired as GM because he wasn’t doing a good job in INDY since he traded Artest. But I will give him this season to prove himself I mean I gave Zeke a chance. As far as Marbury I remember that H.O.F watch blog I showed him support also but I wouldn’t be surprise if he doesn’t make it to the Hall of Fame. As I have said on other blogs the Knicks have at least 2 seasons before we will see any real progress so Knick fans have to be patient at least now two teams in our division will be watchable(Boston,Phila)

@ERIC Yeah my feelings exactly I still got love for Steph but something is wrong him

@ fiyaman I don’t know how you can blame John Starks for the Knicks not winning the Championship are you talking about the Finals in 94 or one of those Eastern semis or finals with the Bulls or Indy either way I can’t get with that the only player I can single out is H.O.F center Patrick Ewing for going for a layup instead of dunking the ball in the 94 Finals but he is still the man

KNICKS UP!! all the rest down!!

  46. D'Antonio says:

Great Jerry Sloan quote that applies to Marbury (out of context, he talks about some guy on his team): “A lot of people have skills. A lot of them are sitting on the sidewalk wondering what happened 20 years ago when they had a chance. He’s got to figure out what he wants to do and play basketball or be a clown.”

@ Big V: does that mean that you’d
swish Nash’s wide open buckets ? I still agree on what you say about Nash and that’s why New York will at best be flirting with the playoffs next year when Phx was flirting with the championship. But the objective for NYC is 2010, right? (and I’d like to point that D’Antoni helped to turned Nash into an MVP by hiding his horrendous defense and building a system that showcases his unique talents)

  47. Big V says:

    @D’Antonio:

All I’m saying is that I need to see D’Antoni have success without having the (at-the-time) reigning or defending MVP point guard on his squad. Like I said, I’m not going to be sold on any of this “offensive genius, blah blah blah) until I see that happen, and as a Knick fan, I hope to God it does. As far as hiding Nash’s deficiencies, I think those were out there for the world to see. The only thing that changed from DAL to PHX was that he didn’t have to play with Dirk, who needed to control the ball in order to set up his offense, which took the ball out of Nash’s hands. In PHX, he was on cruise control until he decided to pass. Once the pass was made, the score was there almost instantaneously.

  48. fiyaman says:

    @Reed Ewing Frazier

I was talking about when we played the Rockets in the finals (dont rememeber the exact yr 95, 96 (1 of the Jordanless yrs) he went 2-18 and had the winning shot blocked by Hakeem.. Anyway i was j/k Starks is my boy got love for all the Knicks players from back in the days (except for CHARLES SMITH he can eat a d**k)

And i remember that missed layup by Ewing that should have been a dunk against Indy (i hated him for that min but he still the man)

Since Starburst became a Knick the only player thats been on that team that I can really root for has been JCrawford, and Mcdysee(sp?). Everyone else i only like cuase was on the team or is on the team now..

    @K Dizzle

I agree if Starburst wasnt from NY he would have faded into oblivion by now.. Damn NewYorkers ..lol

  49. Big V says:

    You mean “faded into bolivion”……

  50. BxBaller says:

I’ve been calling for Walsh’s head when he passed over Avery Johnson for the head coaching job. The Knicks needed to play defense badly, so why would they hire a coach who is known for his offensive game plan. Secondly, he passed over DJ Augustin & Jerreyd Bayless, two point guards who would have been good to play behind Marbury. Not to mention if they let Matbury go, they would have a nice pg to help build the team around. Now they sign Roberson who is a less talented version of Nate.

Marbury I feel, still has some game left and can help the Knicks this season, especially in D’Antoni’s system. Maybe this could be the year he revitalizes his career. However, they they do get rid of him, I see him going to either Miami or Boston. If they do get rid of him, I hope Steph busts our ass each time he plays us. I still can’t believe people rather have a pg tandem of Duhon/Roberson/Collins instead of Marbury. SMH

  51. fiyaman says:

I agreed with everything BX said except the last 2 sentences..Al he did was harm our team therefore I cant wish him any luck…
