Manu Ginobili Impresses, But Misses Key Free Throw in Argentina-Spain Warmup
The World Champion Spanish national team improved to 3-0 in Olympic warm-up action on Tuesday with a 90-88 win over Argentina.
With seven seconds left on the clock, Manu Ginobili missed a free throw that would have tied the game 89-89. But the Spanish phenom Ricky Rubio ended up with the miss, getting fouled and sinking a clutch free throw to put the Spaniards up 90-88.
Even if Manu choked on the stripe in the game’s final seconds, he brought his squad back from a late-game 10 point deficit, scoring 11 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter to bring the game back within reach. He also burned down the nets from beyond the arc, knocking down 4-5 attempts from three.
“I played a long time and I am satisfied,” Ginobili said, “despite not being physically 100% yet.”
Spain was led by Jose Calderon‘s 18 points, as he also took advantage of the shorter three-point line to sink 4-6 tries.
