There was a time we thought that the basketball world might never see Gerald Green ever again. But word is that Gerald is getting one more shot.

looks like dallas is going in the right direction, DOWN!

    LOL

I think it’s a good sign. Green off the bench is a double digit scorer and John Lucas has been pushing him in his workouts, so hopefully for his careers’ sake that translates to better defensive effort. He is an upgrade over Devon George IMO. With Eddie Jones (mentor), Jerry Stack (mentor), Jason Terry and Josh Howard starting there shouldn’t be much pressure on Green. He has time to really show his worth. Dude is only 21. Also he playing with one of the great pace pushing/lob throwing PGs ever…major Plus for his game.

  3. shake&bake says:

He better not screw it up this time. There has to be something pretty wrong with you for someone as talented and athletic as him to get cut. Hopefully he has his head on straight and can become a good player in the league like he should be.

  4. hahns says:

good point kudabeen, green running w/ kidd should be pretty damn exciting. someone w/ that much talent should be on a teams bench somewhere.

kuda eddy jones is opting out. And I don’t see him gettin much burn since he is known for doing dumb stuff in crunch time and the grizzled old vets arent gonna deal wit that. shoulda went to the suns so they could get alil younger or magic so they can get some size at the sg for cheap

  6. Celts Fan, "Kobe, Tell me how my @$$ tastes" says:

good for Gerald. Hopefully he knows this is probably his last real chance to do something. Wishing him nothing but the best. Great signing for Dallas. They don’t need him, he needs them. With the mentors and PGs they have on that team, it’s a golden opportunity to get things back on track…

Good thing for the kid not only does he get a second chance it’s in his home state and the same division as his hometown team (houston) which ironically is the team that almost ended his career. Should make for a good story when they meet up.

  8. Kudabeen says:

    @ Bron42:

Eddie is choosing to stay in Dallas

Also, I don’t think Green should get much crunch time burn anyway with Stack and Howard on the squad. He should just be getting 15-18 mpg. He will show off that J and get some Lobs with Kidd on the squad. He may actually learn something rather than being tossed on the floor (ala Boston, Minnesota)…

  9. doc says:

    Thats whats up for him.

  10. DaPro says:

Keep him away from Josh Howard

  11. rangerjohn says:

there is nothing wrong with his ability, there is a SERIOUS problem with his drive. i mean damn if he isnt willing to do anything infront of his home town what makes anyone thing he is going to try in another city. he is there as a CHEAP roster filler and thats it. the mavs are set with the majority of their roster, they are just trying to get to the league minimum for as cheap as possible now!

  12. shake&bake says:

    Hahaha good point DaPro

  13. Dave says:

Don’t see him getting off the bench. Carlisle isn’t going to like his lack of intelligence on the court.

  14. HBooyah says:

The kid got CUT from Minnesota. Seriously. Nuff said. Quick – name 5 players on Minnesota from last season. And he got CUT from them . . .

  15. Kudabeen says:

I think some are mis-reading the Green situation as if he isn’t talented or not focused. John Lucas has the Rep for tearing guys apart in his trainings and he speaks well of Gerald. Dude is only 21. He has shot well and played well on offense in this league. It has been proven, you give him steady minutes he gives you good production. Minnesota and Huston didn’t even try to play him. Check this article:

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/paul_forrester/03/26/green/index.html

    Article Summary:

the 6-foot-8 forward averaged 10.4 points and shot a respectable 37 percent from the three-point line. Green notched double figures in scoring in 14 of the Celtics’ final 25 games. The numbers were, indeed, McGrady-like, when comparing both players in their second years.

“But when Kevin Garnett is calling, things get crazy,” said Green’s agent, Byron Irvin. The availability of the 2004 MVP prompted Boston to shift into win-now mode, and the Celtics sent the still-developing Green to the rebuilding Timberwolves as part of a package that included Jefferson and Ryan Gomes. The trade left Green to compete with 2005 first-round pick Rashad McCants and 2007 first-rounder Corey Brewer, among others, for minutes.

“When Gerald went to Minnesota, they had so many young guys just like him — ‘potential guys’ — that they had to make a decision about the guys they had invested time in,” Irvin said. “Minnesota didn’t care about Gerald the same way Boston did because they hadn’t put two years into him. The Timberwolves had already invested that kind of time into the likes of Rashad McCants.”

Green played a total of 80 minutes during Minnesota’s 3-20 start. Combined with the team’s decision not to pick up his contract option for next season, the lack of playing time sent Green a clear signal.

“When you don’t pick up a young kid’s option … and then when you don’t play him that much … he was thinking he’s not part of their future,” Irvin said. “He became more and more frustrated.”

  16. Kudabeen says:

Green’s better than McCants and Brewer. The wolves just showed again why they are where they are. They don’t know how to develop those fringe player into major contributors.

Where would the Spurs be if they tossed away a young Tony Parker when Pop was frustrated with him and ready to bench him early on? There is more to being a good player then working on individual skills. A player needs to know his role, get some consistency, and feel apart of the program. The wolves ostracized Gerald.

I spoke on this before how GMs/Teams would rather play their drafted guys over their acquired guys, because they think it makes them look more intelligent being able to say “I saw his talent all along and that’s why we drafted him”

    That’s some Bull!

Give me Gerald over McCants and Brewer EVERYDAY…

  17. rangerjohn says:

green has the tallent and the athleticism, he just doesnt have the mental ability to push himself to get better. he has no drive to get better so he is not getting better each yr but getting worse really. i mean damn he got playing time on the worst celtics team in what 10+ yrs, then got traded and CUT from the worst t-wolves team in 20 yrs, then he got cut from the rockets who needed every live body they could get towards the end of the season and into the playoffs. the kid has tallent but he has no drive!

  18. Kobeef says:

    @Kubadeen
The more I watch McHale’s moves the more I think you are safe to assume anything he does is a bad move.

From what I can tell, McHale is so obsessed with himself that the only players he really likes are guys that play like he did (smart, gritty but unspectacular low post bangers). Apparently this was one of the reason’s why he and Garnett grew apart – Garnett is an outside-inside frontcourt player and not just a low-post banger – which is how McHale wanted him to play.

We heard early in the pre-draft rumours that McHale was really high on Kevin Love because – go figure – he was a smart, gritty but unspectacular low post banger. It is if McHale has some type of unresolved personal need to prove that his style of play is the best. So much so that he traded Mayo (arguably the most talented guard in the draft) for Love – who is basically the same player (with less potential) as Jefferson.

Anyway – all this to say that Gerald has boat loads of talent and we should not make any judgement about him based on McHale’s decisions. Houston had little choice but to cut him and bring in a low-post player after Yao went down.

  19. Justin Solomon says:

I am not sure why everyone keeps referencing that Green was cut by the Wolves when he was actually traded for Kirk Snyder. He was cut by the Rockets but the Wolves traded him. I agree that Green should benefit from Kidd look at Krapyon Martin, his no-talent ass did well with Kidd too.

  20. w says:

“Krapyon Martin, his no-talent ass did well with Kidd too.”

yeah im sure being less injured had nothing to do with that as well [/sarcasm]

  21. Justin Solomon says:

    @W
Many players encounter injuries through their careers, but excessive celebrations (i.e. jersey popping after a routine dunk) and lack of overall basketball skill do not equate talent. Sorry W, but Krapyon is like most of his ’00 draft counterparts in the sense that he is either overrated or just not that talented.
