NBA Trade Rumors: Chauncey Billups to Golden State for Andris Biedrins?

Chauncey BillupsBig Shot for Biedrins?

Immediately after the Baron Davis trade, Don Nelson publicly came out with a ringing endorsement of Monta Ellis as the next point guard in Oakland. Warriors’ GM Chris Mullin backed Nellie’s assertion, but his actions might say a whole lot more about how he really feels starting Monta as the primary point.

Chris Mullin may not believe his own rhetoric about Ellis. The buzz in Detroit is that the Warriors and Pistons have been talking about a deal involving point guard Chauncey Billups. The Pistons want Andris Biedrins, the Warriors are offering up Al Harrington. Harrington by all means. But Biedrins? No way.

While it should come as no surprise that the Warriors would happily solicit Mr. Big Shot’s services, are you surprised that Andris Biedrins stock is high enough to be dealt for a former Final MVP one-for-one? Granted, the biggest difference here is age: Biedrins turned 22 in April and Billups turns 32 in September. It feels like Detroit should get something more than just Biedrins, even if he’s close to a 10-10 guy who leads the League in field goal percentage. No casual fan is going to buy a ticket to the Palace at Auburn Hills to see some Latvian dude who spends too much time gelling his hair.

On the flip side – from the Warriors’ lens, does the addition of Ronny Turiaf make Biedrins more expendable to get one of the top five point guards in the League?

    hell noo

It depends on the style of ball GS is going to play going forward w/o The Baron. If still fast tempo, some of their young bigs can grab some boards and block some shots, and perhaps pick up another big body on the cheap (the Birdman?) to fill the extra minutes at the 5 spot.

  3. fiyaman says:

i keep telling yall cats not to sleep on Beidrins.. If he gets a coach that knows how to use him he’ll be nasty.. I wish the knicks could get him for maybe Curry or Randolph..

And GS is completely lost..they back to the Golden State that we know and hate.

  4. aj says:

I’d do this if I were Detroit in a heartbeat. Billups is on his way down and has too much ego to realize it. He was clutch but he was still a bit of a jacker for the Pistons system. The more his skills and quickness decline, the more he’s gonna shoot to make up for it.

The Pistons need Beiedrins, he fills a big void.

Next year the Pistons won’t get nearly this caliber of player for Chauncey.

  5. hahns says:

whats the point of this move for GS??? i think everyone can agree GS isnt contending for a chip this year, or even in the next 3. so why trade for an aging billups??

  6. Juanito says:

Holy shit….no f***ing way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Terrible idea

  7. Brown says:

The Warriors’ biggest problem is rebounding. Biedrins is their best rebounder, and although he’s a little on the skinny side, he’s still bigger than Wright and Randolph. If they make this trade, Nellie better be ready to play the young guys up front.

  8. Imperial-Mel says:

I couldnt see Chancey ‘Silky’ Billups in the annoying yellow jersey…plus Monta Ellis is the next, more explosive A.I

  9. shake&bake says:

Billups is a good player but I think he’s a better half court player than uptempo.

  10. YOUNGFED says:

yall are crazy if yall think Beidrins is worth an allstar guard like Billups.

  11. Kobeef says:

I don’t get this trade for either team.

Pistons are conference finalisits and should make some moves to get another vetran or star (T-Mac) instead of young prospects.

GS is a rebuilding team that really has little hope of making noise in the playoffs and is best served to build for the future…which does not mean trading for Billups.

Bad move. I liked the T-Mac trade idea but this sounds totally stupid. And yeah, I can’t see the fans buying tickets to watch Biendris air ball his free throws

  12. Big V says:

I can’t see Detroit pulling the trigger on pretty much any deal involving Chauncey unless they’re pretty sure they’re going to land T-Mac.

  13. Kermit The Washington says:

Is Dumars THIS angry with the team? Why would you DO this? The move to make is to get ‘Sheed out of town for a good 4 or 5, and you’re back in the conference finals with a GREAT chance to hit the Finals again. Come on Joe…don’t let your emotions get out of hand here…

  14. Sam I Am says:

    Oh no Youngfed is back

    Billups is done…finito…
Biedrins is fresh and new…ya’ll about to break up the whole Pistons squad anyways..

It wouldn’t hurt, its not like you’ve won the Chip since 04 with what’s on the floor.

Ask Flip, He’ll let you know

  15. San Antonio dude says:

Logically, then, if Turiaf is a replacement for Biedrins, then you’d have no problem trading Billups for Turiaf. Hell, I bet the GSW would even throw in Harrington.

  16. cbizzle says:

Don’t like this move. I think they should stand pat this year and let Rasheed’s contract come off the after this season

  17. Dustin Nguyen says:

Bro stop trippin chauncey billups for Biedrins chauncey is way better so please dont take that motha fuckin deal cuase its gona screw the pistons.

  18. chrisballa says:

Billups is still the team leader, and with a younger, less experienced guard like biedrins at point, rip, tayshaun, and of course, sheed are not going to respect or play under his leadership. (leadership? lol!)He won’t make it through the playoffs, and rodney stuckey is the future guard for the pistons anyway.
