NBA Trade Rumors: Marcus Williams for Andres Nocioni

After the press conference to introduce Yi Jianlian and Bobby Simmons to the New Jersey media, Nets GM Rod Thorn indicated that he isn’t done trying to make deals.

According to the Bergen Record, one deal being discussed would send Marcus Williams to the Bulls for Andres Nocioni.

Personally, I love Nocioni and think he would help any team in the League. Yes, he guns a bit, but the guys is relentless, plays tough D and isn’t afraid to mix it up. With Devin Harris, Vince, Yi, and others in the mix, the Nets don’t exactly exude toughness. Noc would help them immediately.

As for Marcus, as soon as New Jersey acquired Devin last season, the writing was on the wall, especially as Harris played really well over the last few weeks of the season, putting definite distance between himself and Williams.

What does Chicago want with Marcus Williams?

  • Dime Magazine

I take it to mean that Hinrich is as good as gone.

why would chicago want another guard?? and why would the nets want another foward even though nocioni is better than all the forwards the nets have??

  • karizmatic

right…that trade makes no sense. Unless they trade a bunch of other players with it. Vince Carter, Larry Hughes, Hinrich would all probably have to be involved for this trade to make any sense.

  • Ross

Agreed. Chicago probably wont bite on that deal (or at least shouldn’t).

  • China-man

Which Marcus Williams is this? The lapop thief from UConn or Arizona?

Yi is for marketability, I don’t see him starting over Vince, Simmons, and now Nicioni. CDR is faster than the Yim stupid Chnia-man.

Some of you Negroes posting on Dime are faster than that stupid communist China-man!

Marcus Williams is never gonna be a starter, is he? He went from backing up J-Kidd (Hall of Famer), then before he can take over, the Nets trade for Devin Harris (future of the franchise). If this deal happens he’ll be behind Derrick Rose (future of the Bulls). Looking back, you wonder what was the big deal about teams passing on him in the first round.

Good point AB and I guess if they’re gonna move Hinrich Marcus Williams would be a nice backup for D-Rose but I like this trade for the Nets. I think Nocioni could start at the 3 for the Nets current roster with CDR playing double duty off the bench at the 2 and the 3 (I never liked the idea of Bobby simmons playing for the Nets) good trade both ways.

  • miamiVIS3

The Nets starting linup could look like this
    1.Devin Harris
    2.Vince Carter
    3.Andres Nocioni
    4.Yi/ Sean Williams
    5.Brook Lopez
    Not too shabby

  • Raps FAN

why the hell would chicago want marcus williams???

they have a crowded back court as it is…. and he’s one of the few players on the team that even makes an attempt to play defense…

Even if they trade hinrich.. they’re backcourt woudl consist of

Larry hughes, Derrick Rose, Ben Gordon and Marcus Williams, Thatb Sefolosha… I thought they had to trade some guards.. not acquire them

I don’t know Miami (#9), that looks pretty shabby to me. Especially considering how the Atlantic division is looking right now.

  • miamiVIS3

    @Tom Toronto
I know but the Nets are cruising till 2010 and are in awierd position where they can’t improve their roster much but have to mantain a good enough record to lure LeBron so for a team bound for the lottery they’re in pretty good shape but the playoffs are out of the question.

  • DaPro

Doesn’t make sense for the Bulls. Personally I like Noc, he gets dunked on every game but he bust his ass off for the Chi. Heinrich is gone if this true, he saves the Bulls some cash if he’s off the books but I’d keep Kirk.

  • yallallreadyknow

makes no damn sense for either team.

    for the nets:
every team needs a decent backup point guard. darrell armstrong is waiting to become the nets next head coach. so if marcus williams is traded and devin harris twists his ankle (again) who is going to run the point? marcus is the perfect backup for NJ. he played in the big east and all the fans know him. he aint gonna mouth off about starting cause he knows he can’t. and he can actually pass the rock.

    for chicago:
this team has no leadership, no heart and no toughness, especially with skiles and ben wallace gone. nocioni gives them toughness and a bit of heart. why the hell they gonna trade him? and for a backup point guard no less. since when do you trade big for small?

  • doc

    Looks like a bullshit trade.

  • r.d.

Trade probably will not happen but Noche is a good player but for some reason just does not fit well with this team. Maybe it was because of Skiles, and hopefully so because I like Noche. The only thing I can think of is to get rid of his contract, which is pretty large for a player who does not start (on the Bulls).

  • word

what in the hell is chicago doing

  • Lee

Yeah .. and what’s happening to Gordon and Deng’s contracts ??? Are they staying or going ???

  • Wake

It actually makes sense. Everyone is assuming that Hinrich is going to get traded and with Duhon in New York, that leaves Rose as the only REAL pg on the squad. The thing that people should question is Nocioni’s value. The Bulls can definitely get more for Noce.

  • Meica

Having been an avid Bulls fan my whole life I can say this: Chicago won’t make this trade. Paxon likes Nocioni. We don’t need any more guards, especially one that’s only barely serviceable. Like what’s been said, we need to get rid of some guards, not acquire them, but more importantly, we need to find a good big man, not give them away.

I won’t be surprised to see Gordon shipped around though, he’s had his chance and continually comes up just short. Kirk’s trade value isn’t as high as maybe it has once been and the Bulls are probably going to need someone to man the helm until Rose gets his thing going.

  • Franchise Baller

Chicago has too many gaurds. I say keep Hughes,Rose, and Gordon. And keep Kirk around for a little while until rose gets use to the point

  • jeremy

how can you possibly like nocioni???????

  • Ding Dong We Got Danilo Gallinari?

What’s with the hate on China?

  • Ashlov

I’d trade Shawn Marion for Kirk Hinrich and Andres Nocioni

  • tim

TMac for Billups/Prince? Is this real or just something my Detroit Media has made up for a story?

  • chrisGO

unless we rid of Hughes contract in the process there aint no way we’re trading Nocioni for yet another guard

  • Bron42 had springs before slamball

    @tim,
detroit media made it up. the rockets would never so it since they have like 4 guards already and shane battier does everything prince does. Plus neither are crazy scorers so even more would be put on yao who doesn’t hold up to the hype anywya.

    @post 24
your crazy, neither is on marions level and they just got chalmers who is showing he can probably handle the pg duties.

  • dmitry of jersey

on behalf of all nets fans, I approve this trade.

getting a 15-8 PF who can play tough and shoot 3’s for a backup point guard would be a huge steal.
