Pass the Mic: NBA Summer League Live Blog, Day 2

Jeff GreenJeff Green (photo. David Deal)

Yesterday we gave this space to our DimeMag.com readers to live blog on the opening day action from the Orlando Summer Pro League — most notably for the Bulls/Heat game featuring the pro debuts of Derrick Rose and Michael Beasley.

Same drill today, with the games in Orlando tipping off at 3 p.m. EST and available to view online HERE. If you’re checking out the games, hit us with your scouting reports, observations, and X’s and O’s breakdowns of the on-court happenings.

Tuesday’s first game has Beasley and the Heat going up against the Nets, where the Rookie of the Year front-runner (28 points yesterday) can test his game against Jersey’s first-round pick from a year ago, defensive specialist Sean Williams, who at least physically should be able to give Beasley a contest. The Magic play the Oklahoma City Somethings afterwards (approx. 5 p.m. EST), followed by the Bulls and Pacers around 7 p.m. EST.

    numero uno

  2. Justice says:

Is JJ Redick on the magic team? he should be…how about marcus williams for the nets..

  3. A-Slam says:

has anyone ever noticed how stupid the lopez’ sound? I could never take those two guys seriously

  4. Justice says:

the heat definitely made the right choice, now that i look at the landscape of that team, whoever plays the point for riles can usually shoot the lights out or at least force u to be within 5 feet of him banks,quinn,chalmers..and blount and haslem can knock down mid range jumpers too at the 5.so it will be impossible to double beasley, with wade marion and whatever 3pt shooting pg on the floor.. and we know beastly can score..i think he may stuggle against the taller, physical veterans, but that’s about it.this is not going to be a kevin durant put ur best defender on him the other 4 guy’s drift of their man situation at all..scary

  5. A-Slam says:

yeah the heat definately got a steal in chalmers. If anything its a good thing the heat got chalmers because I think he’d be able to step in right away and contribute while it may take a while for derrick rose to find his niche in the league

  6. A-Slam says:

As for Sean Williams Vs. Beasley, I can’t really see Williams being much of a factor to Beasley. He’ll have to chase Beasley out on to the perimeter where Beasley has the advantage to Williams.

  7. A-Slam says:

    so many fuckin whistles already

  8. A-Slam says:

these guys should focus on the game instead of Del Negro’s hair

  9. A-Slam says:

and peanut butter and jelly or hard shell tacos

  10. A-Slam says:

lmao props to Nick Anderson makin fun of lil wayne

  11. A-Slam says:

my mistake williams is stoppin beasley

  12. yallallreadyknow says:

are these games televised anywhere or just on-line?

btw…are fans allowed at these summer league games? seems like a quiet junior high school gym

  13. A-Slam says:

chalmers!!!!! for your info guys, he wasn’t the 50th pick

  14. justice says:

williams is strong and athletic, plus not much is expected from him on offense, these are the kind of dudes i expect to give beasley issues at the start of the season, good luck once he gets some work in on his footwork though..

  15. Frank says:

Nice shoutout from Nick Anderson to Drazen Petrovic… may he rest in peace…

  16. A-Slam says:

halftime analysis: despite the dante and gallante rambling on about completely irrelevant topics and nothing about the game, Miami is leading New Jersey. I’m very impressed by Mario Chalmers who leads all scorers with 11 points and a couple of steals. Beasley however is putting in a lackadaisical effort, and looks passive. He’s constantly letting Shawn Williams beat him, by the way he also has about 4 fouls. But that’s basically all i’ve been able to translate, that and Nick Anderson talking about his 50 point performance against the New Jersey Nets.

  17. Data says:

The only thing less entertaining than the game is the scoreboard countdown shot they have for halftime. It’s 2008 guys you couldn’t hook us up with something besides watching the scoreboard.

  18. A-Slam says:

bout time they had an interesting stat, Beasley 0-9 FG…. ouch

  19. A-Slam says:

    and 5 turnovers

  20. A-Slam says:

wow these guys really know nothing about basketball

  21. Blue says:

    @ Yallalreadyknow
these games are pretty much closed to everyone but players and teams execs and such. the media and fans aren’t allowed in.

  22. A-Slam says:

    beasley, 1-12 FG

  23. A-Slam says:

damn ryan anderson, white boy can shoot

  24. A-Slam says:

all I want is some play-by-play commentary rather than hearing gallante talking about hanging himself

  25. Aaron says:

A white guy that can shoot? That’s crazy talk…

  26. Frank says:

Did Beasley just inbound the ball to the ref?
    So much for concentration….

  27. Celts Fan, "Kobe, Tell me how my @$$ tastes" says:

In related news, Sean Williams just checked himself out of the game, called up Josh Howard and ate all the fried dough at Disney.

  28. A-Slam says:

Why isnt Anthony Morrow in the league?

  29. A-Slam says:

terrible performance by beasley in the end, 1-13. Chalmers had a really good performance though

  30. doc says:

I told yall Miami shoulda picked Ryan Anderson over Beasley.

  31. Kudabeen says:

    Who is Anthony Morrow?

That’s why… Poor scouting and maybe his agent isn’t on his job.

    How was CDR’s game?

  32. Austin Burton says:

@A-Slam — I remember Morrow being real skinny at G-Tech. Has he bulked up at all?

  33. doc says:

Morrow not making shit.Just the average case of people hyping someone up from a summer league game.

  34. A-Slam says:

@Austin Burton- I couldn’t really tell if he bulked up or not, the feed is terrible.

  35. A-Slam says:

Man westbrook has the whole package

  36. A-Slam says:

I guess some people’s game translates better to the pros, Westbrook’s reminds me of Monta Ellis’ game

  37. Austin Burton says:

Too bad Saer Sene had to get microfracture and couldn’t get in some summer league minutes with OKC.

  38. Kudabeen says:

    Sad to say:

Those Chuck Norris comments made me laugh…

  39. A-Slam says:

LMAO Chuck Norris doesn’t get wet, the water gets Chuck Norris

  40. itsakademiks says:

Chuck Norris doesnt sleep…..he just waits

  41. Aaron says:

Chuck Norris doesn’t take showers, he takes blood baths..

  42. itsakademiks says:

If you had 5 dollars and Chuck Norris had 5 dollars…he’d still have more money then you.

  43. itsakademiks says:

That joke about Larry Bird’s shorts was hillarious

  44. itsakademiks says:

HAHAHAHA Chuck Norris has counted to infiniti…..Twice!

  45. K Dizzle says:

As OKC is waxin the Magic by 20-something, they pull out this one

“Martin Gortat…a 7 foot white guy with no athleticism and not skilled….The future looks bleak”

lol, these announcers are on fire

  46. miamiVIS3 says:

@ A-Slam Anthony Morrow isn’t in the L yet because he’s a rookie jjust like 95% of the Heat’s summer league roster. (if anyone still cares)

  47. A-Slam says:

Morrow is a rookie? I always thought he was in and out of the league for a couple years. Guess I don’t follow g-tech basketball closely enough

  48. Dagomar says:

This is why one summer league game doesn’t matter that much when evaluating these guys. Talk to me at the end of their first season.
